How to get rid of clothes is the one thing we all struggle with.
If you've ever wondered how to purge your wardrobe then watch me clear out my closet with my coats. Hopefully this inspires you on how to declutter your wardrobe and how to clean out your closet. Learning how to let go is a massive question we all struggle with so watch me do it with my friend Rihanna.

I agree with some of her picks, but not all!! At the end of the day, you are wearing it and some of the items you tossed, YOU LOVED, Which is a little upsetting. I like that she was honest and gave a couple of good tips, but she seems to have a different style than you anyway. Your style is VERY EDITORIAL, street style and edgy. Do what works for you. I agree with her 3 F’s, but what’s most important is Fit!! Her fabulosity is not your fabulosity!
Rihanna is smart, lovely and gorgeous. However, I disagree with a lot of what she said. I think that some of what she said was spot on, and I know that you are trying to purge, and I get that. But, I think that your style is superb and extremely unique. I think you should keep and wear what makes you happy. I trust your style judgment above every single person on YT, and in real life too. I love the interaction between you both nonetheless, and it is obvious that you are both good friends. I just prefer your style, and I trust you more:).

Oh my gad Rianna is the best. I do agree with what she made you let go. Alot of the oversize jackets really don't do your body justice. The way Rianna justifies letting things go has to be the best rules ever.
Some of the colors wash you out. Those Rianna made you get rid of.
I was surprised she didn't like the dark olive men's coat at 31:22. I was worried you were going to toss it because I really like it. Glad you kept it.

I am a thrifter and vintage shopper with an obsession with outerwear and I'm going to go through this process not only with my current wardrobe but all future purchases!!! I think her friend had her point about not keeping inferior duplicates to be honest. The coat is nice, but she had an even better one.

I love oversized coats as well as men’s blazers! Like you I have very wide shoulders and am slim underneath it. It’s almost impossible to find the right cut if you’re shoulders and upper back are one or two sizes (sometimes even) bigger than the rest of you. Thank God based on my ballet background, i do have thighs 💃.
I just ordered a nice looking coat one size bigger than the rest of me and will have to ‘tweak’ it (sigh). I hope it works out 😕. Anyway, I hope you do a video on problems like these, if you didn’t already.

I loved this. I went through my closet about 3 weeks ago, to pull out my winter things, (my off season clothes are behind the wall, which is do ridiculous! I had intended to purge some things, but I didn't do a very good job, every thing I have I like, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. But your statement at the end "If the item no longer feels like you, toss it" really spoke to me in a way I hadn't really thought about before! So now those clothes that I was iffy about, will definitely get tossed! Thanks so much! I love your channel!!!
I would love to see a video on all the items you updated/tailored. Any of the jackets you took the shoulder pads out of, or switched the buttons. I would love to see how the small changes make a difference!! Loved this video!

Rihanna was pretty spot on imo. We all love the clothes in our closet otherwise we wouldn't keep it. Having an outside perspective is great when trying to purge, stops you from making excuses to keep it. Makes room for more clothes! Great video! Inspired to do my own closet cleaning

i've watched many many wardrobe clearouts but particularly loved this one because you and Rihanna discuss each piece and pros and cons rather than speed through that bit (which is the bit I find most interesting and helpful!) I have plenty of coats too and I will be re-watching this to try and encourage me to part with some!

I love the sheer variety of coats you went through! Wonderful style! I loved how your friend was able to point out how a coat wasn't right, and why it wasn't. It's made me look at my purge more carefully and selectively..very helpful!
The thing is when you look at the same items styled in the cutaways they look amazing on you. I am so pleased you kept the white yeti coat, the green military coat and the mango velvet jacket they are amazing the only thing I really agreed strongly with your friend was that mustard Topshop jacket, it is not a keeper. You looked so vulnerable at the start and by the end you were flinging jacket on to go pile without trying them on.
There were coats at the end that I already knew I was going to toss so those were easy to fling to one side LOL!! yes I knew I was going to keep certain pieces regardless because they are so me and I love them a lot hence the over ride. I think the Topshop blazer is definitely a divider here!

Karen, you are my guru! I love your style, inspires me! Please rethink some of those, especially the yellowish/orange too large blazer! I love how you style garments, maybe not amazing as stand alone pieces,, but awesome as part of a complete ensemble!

Hi Karen. What a fabulous collection of coats you have! So glad you decided to keep the Sandro burgundy tux coat and the Khaki olive coat as they looked so sophisticated on you. I liked the Del Boy coat - lovely jubbly! I would have liked to have seen you wear a chunky sweater underneath some of the coats for when there is a harsh New York Winter and why no parka, duffle coat or Moncler style coat or is that not your vibe?
When it's REALLY cold e.g sub zero days I either wear my Acne Velocity shearing jacket (not shown in the video) or the white big yeti coat. I don't own any parkas, duffles or Monclear styles.

I love this! You love shopping and people will ALWAYS be making more clothes so I love that you were able and ready to get rid of so many coats. There's no need to hold everything so precious. It was hard to take the lady in the pink drabby ill fitting sweater seriously. Karen has spectacular taste and doesn't need anyone telling her what works.
I didn't like her personal style either, but she is clearly looking that way on purpose. I recognize her skill and ability to apply it to someone else's style. Great advice. I agreed with most of what she said toss. I disagreed with several and agreed with all of Karen's over rides. If the goal was to do a significant purge, it was well done. As fabulous as Karen is, it really helps to have someone offer a different perspective.
Yes, she does, but she needed her friend to edit some of that stuff... Some of it was way to biiiiiggg or waaay to small or just not right.
I only just got around to watching but it's one of my favourite videos of yours so far! So much fun and so interesting to watch...and your friends advice was spot on imo. If you have that many coats, you have to 'thin the herd' a little more rigorously than if you only have half a dozen. And the ones you kept were definitely the most gorgeous and flattering ones 👍
Thank you that was defiantly the point of this purge: to thin the herd. Plus I need to make room at home it was just too much.
I want Rihanna to come to my house and be chic and cruel! I did the second best thing and got my fashionista girlfriend to make the purge. We got rid of 1/3 of the jackets. Gonna do other parts of my wardrobe over the holidays. I liked Rihanna edits and your vetoes (except I would have kept the ostrich feathered cardigan and gotten rid of the beaded leopard jacket). Best line: It's Chewbacca's girlfriend. Please also list all the brands of your jackets!

I was anxious for you while watching ☺️. I get the point-don’t keep mediocre pieces that make you want to turn the corner when you run into an old boyfriend. Keep the pieces that make you confident and ready for anything. It’s not about price, it’s about personal fit, flattering color, fabric, and whether it is today’s “you”, not “you” 5, or 15 years ago. It’s super fun when something I’ve bought 20years ago still makes me happy to wear. But for those trendier pieces or pieces I’ve upgraded-those can happily move out. BTW I was going to FREAK if you got rid of the 3/4 length olive military men’s coat. It says “I’m perennially cool. My coat doesn’t have to yell at it you, but you get my message”. Superb.
You have some awesome jackets..a lil advice..go back thru your toss pile cause some of them were definitely keepers..
Talk about ruthless! LOL! Thanks I needed this, my closets are running over with things that are "too cute" to toss or that are "coming back in style" or "will fit when I lose that last 5 pounds" etc. Excuses, all of them and meanwhile, I have no real estate in any of my closets. Wow! I would need a friend for sure and I loved how Rihanna was so honest and you were both so funny - some of the looks on both of your faces were priceless. You also both pointed out so many great tips for purging I wouldn't have thought of, like where it falls, how large it really is , whether the color is good, etc. The most valuable one for me was the coat wearing you tip - I have so many clothes that wear me and I love them but they do need to go. I was shocked to see so many go; and some of the choices amazed me because I've seen you in so many of them through your videos. Thank you both for a wonderful lesson - a hard, brutally hones one - but a very good one. I need to purge some things and I have been trying so hard to not get to it but I know, deep in my brain, my black beautiful heels have to go because I can't get my foot in them without actually risking a break in my big toe; my left foot has a ball that's about twice as big as the one on my right foot because I broke it when I was a kid. You did an amazing job and I know how hard that had to be so congratulate yourself with a great dinner out (or a coat shopping trip). I'd like to see you help Rihanna with hers when she does one - that would be super fun to watch. It's so nice to have friends like her, and you are both such amazing people. wow thank you Heather for this incredible comment. It was tough for a couple of coats but a lot of I was ok to let go of because I've been living with them for so long (some of them) and I needed to breathe with much less and to make way for better things. In New York I'm exposed to incredible clothes on a daily basis so I'm blessed to never truly miss what I let go of because I know tomorrow I'll see another one. It's just how it is. At least for me. I hope you do get fearless enough to purge. My friend in London did it and agrees its the best feeling in the world.

In my opinion you should had worn a neutral shirt to try all these different coats.
Great coat collection. The Yeti & brown long leopard coats looked flattering on you- oversized in a good way. Classic houndstooth coat. The red patchwork coat is show-stopping. Those black & green velvet coats are incredible too.
