Freewayjim Especially since they widened that part of I-5 in the 1990s, because I can remember when it was the three lane-per side version all the way from the I-405 split in Irvine to near downtown L.A. When they did the widening, quite a number of the exits were changed. For instance, the Myford Road exit in Irvine was removed in favor of one at Jamboree Road, which was extended, and an interchange at Tustin Ranch Road was added. The 5/55 interchange was a cloverleaf, and there was no exit for Fourth Street in Santa Ana going north and there were separate exits for Fourth and First Streets going south. (For some reason, there has never been an exit from NB I-5 to Newport Avenue, though the SB exit to Newport Avenue is now part of the 5/55 interchange, where it had a separate exit prior to the reconfiguring of I-5 in Irvine and Tustin in the early 90s.) And in Anaheim, the northbound exits for South and West Streets, Loara Street, and Crescent Avenue were all removed and the southbound exits (Ball Road via the Harbor Blvd. exit and Euclid Street) were integrated onto NB I-5. And there was no exit for CA-39/Beach Blvd. going south for years until it was added in the 90s (I don't know exactly when it was added on SB I-5). And worst of all, the 5/22/57 interchange was somewhere nobody wanted to be around, because it would literally jam up for as many as 17 hours a day, but it's probably a lot better now since both I-5 and CA-22 have been widened. So I wonder what's going to be altered when the portion from the L.A./Orange county line to I-710 is redone. And also, I wonder if the left exit ramps for the carpool lanes on the 5/91 interchange are derived from the original ramps, because that used to be a left exit for the connections available.
Nice ride! Brings back memories of 1990 and when I was in LA- Especially the Disneyland area- really have been enjoying your California trip this year and the differences in the roads compared to when I was there in '90! Awesome ride!
Thanks, the footage is sped up 5X in most cases in this video and I'm probably going 65-70 so it simulated 350 mph. As for the music, those deals are worked out between the record labels/copyright holders, the original artist will get a cut of the sales from the band that "covers" the song.
Nice drive through SAN-AH-TA-ANA! Seriously - when you cross from Orange to LA county you notice the difference in # of lanes on the 5 and how slow it gets. And there's that "City of THRU TRAFFIC" again.
Thanks, I did not forget to mention that, thought about sticking an Angels logo in there somewhere but at that point there was a lot going on with the video, I try to keep a balance between signs graphics, and text while not taking the viewers eyes off the road at key moments so as a result some things do get left out.
Awesome vids, Jim! Sounds like you really enjoyed the trip too.... reminds me of 2002 when I did the opposite (cross country trip to the east coast... I live in WA but we were going to Chicago, Cleveland, New York, the "other" Washington and then to see family in West Virginia. Dang, I've been wanting to do another big road trip and now I'm having flashback making me want to go on one! :) (PS: Nice to see some west coast love from ya!)
Ah, man ... I miss this drive. This was essentially the route my friends and I would take to get to Disneyland from the Valley (We'd take the 5 South, but whatever). I'd get up at 5 a.m. so my friends could pick me up at six, and we'd be at the park by 7 or 7:30.
What's your favorite part of I-5 in Orange County? I like the miles between Santa Ana and Anaheim. I love the way Caltrans widened I-5 in Orange County to manage traffic well. Unfortunately, I-5 in L.A. County have less lanes which may cause heavy traffic. I wonder when it will eventually be widened too, but I think it's impossible to do so.
Because of that, it's design is unique and wide with HOV lanes and ramps and between Santa Ana and Anaheim, it has direct accesses to these: •Orange Crush Interchange (most complex 5-way interchange ever) •Honda Center (home of NHL's Anaheim Ducks) if you take CA-57 to Katella Avenue. •Angel Stadium (home of MLB's L.A. Angels) if you take CA-57 to Orangewood Avenue. •Disneyland's California Adventure
THE FREEWAYJIM SHOW ROCKS IT AGAIN X2! Join us next time (Fri) when he visits more from LA! Justin out! Love the music and the video! Did you get the title "Orange Rush" from the Orange Crush Interchange? "Grab you guitar and play!" LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
You forgot to mention that you also pass through the Big A or Angel Stadium when you travel on the 57 or the 5 to the Katella Ave/Gene Autry Way or Disney Way. But nonetheless, it's still a great vid.
Another Awesome Video just like all the rest of them just curious though, when you speed up the process let's say, about how fast are the cars actually going do you think in MPH? Secondly about the song On The road again, I know that's actually Willie's song, but when another band wants to use it like in the video here, do they have to get permission from the original singer (Willie) to be able to use it in their band or how does that actually work, Thanks again.....
You did recognize on this video passing DISNEYLAND THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH. One time you should do a video in and around ORLANDO FLORIDA and WALT DISNEY WORLD on Interstate 4 and the toll roads.
+Frank Genovay I've done one in Orlando before (2008), the video got taken down due to music issues....I-4 is meh, but then the construction is done it'll be worth a video.
Interstate 5 intersects the 656 mile long pacific coast highway in San Juan Capistrano California 5 miles south of California state route 73 but why isn’t California state route 133 a freeway between lake forest drive and pacific coast highway. California state route 133 passes below rugged terrain south of California state route 73 so that may be why California state route 133 isn’t a freeway through the San Joaquin hills to Pacific coast highway in Laguna beach.
That was incredible. Now I definitely want to get out to California in a few years. I realized that after 4:17, the weather got muggy. Did it clear up in #6?
Jim, another thing. I thought Orange Rush meant that you were filming in Orange County & that you were using a song by the band Rush. Pretty crazy huh?
I was thinking, if I won the lotto, I would buy me a 69 Pontiac GTO Judge and drive there and enjoy a good long road trip. a 70 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 is good too.
I love your LA videos; both my sons live in LA now so it give me an idea some of the roads they travel. Thank so much.
You are welcome and thanks for riding along, glad you enjoy the videos.
Considering heading to California specifically LA next year! It sure looks like a very fun place!
It is, I'd recommend it.
@@Freewayjim By November, fully vaccinated foreign travellers can travel to US. I believe next year, it should be safe to travel to us.
that is one huge freeway. Second busiest in greater LA if I'm correct (after the 405 at Seal Beach).
I live in Orange County. I drive that route 4 days a week. That highway is a parking lot every weekday morning. Nice video sir.
Thank you....there are worse freeways to be stuck on :)

Freewayjim I agree. The 405 has the worse traffic condition than any other freeways.
I’m in the future guys! Come with to me! XD
Nice ride! Brings back memories of 1990 and when I was in LA- Especially the Disneyland area- really have been enjoying your California trip this year and the differences in the roads compared to when I was there in '90! Awesome ride!
Thanks, yes that was a nice surprise, wasn't quite expecting that, the view looking left was pretty cool with the interchange below.
Thanks, the footage is sped up 5X in most cases in this video and I'm probably going 65-70 so it simulated 350 mph. As for the music, those deals are worked out between the record labels/copyright holders, the original artist will get a cut of the sales from the band that "covers" the song.
A great freeway! The express elevated lines looks awesome in your video. I can't imagine in reality! Great ride!
Thank you, they are quite impressive in person.
That's a carpool lane not express lane
Freeway Jim! You are the man!! Thanks for helping me escape reality and enjoy the cities! I live on the island Oahu... Thanks again!
Awesome video. Must have been a blast to drive!!!!!!!!!!
Nice drive through SAN-AH-TA-ANA!
Seriously - when you cross from Orange to LA county you notice the difference in # of lanes on the 5 and how slow it gets. And there's that "City of THRU TRAFFIC" again.
I'm a native Angeleno, and I still haven't located "THRU TRAFFIC" on a map. ;)
Classic!
Great ride. That ramp up to CA 91 was pretty nice.

Thanks, yes the weather did clear up the rest of that day.
Cool ride, thanks.
wow, loved it! Maybe even a Hwy 39 one day.
akfunnyguy um there's no hwy 39 in LA
@@adlou323 Beach Boulevard is HWY 39...
it starts in Huntington Beach and heads north into LA county
Thanks JMV, yes indeed.
Thanks Scott, yes that has worked out well on occasion.
M M M Beautiful freeways in L.A. has got interesting for I-48. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Ken, yes I finally was able to get out to the west coast, it was the trip of a lifetime, loved it!
Great ride Jim. It's smart to use covers of popular songs that are less likely to be muted by You Tube.
Thanks Jim.
@Trevor Whitehead: Sorry, I have no control over that, the issue is the copyright owner of the music I used.
thanks a lot
Thanks, and yes it was pretty fun.

2013, thus the 13-39 in the title..
Thanks Justin!
I go on the 241 and 133 to 405 fwy and 5 fwy a lot!
Thank you Zach!
Thank you much!
Have a blessed day FreewayJim! Love you!

Have You Been To Disneyland In Anaheim Or Walt Disney World In Florida?
I've been to the one in Florida once, in 1990.

If you mean the sign types yes, 5 is an Interstate Highway, 91 is a State Highway.
Thanks, No, the title came from the county of course and the kind of video it was with the music, it was a bit faster than usual.
That was incredible. Now I definitely want to get out to California in a few years. I realized that after 4:17, the weather got muggy. Did it clear up in #6?
Could you make this video available on mobile devices?
Sorry typo. "Grab your guitar and play!" LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
I see that the plate with discribtion 91 is different than the plate with discribtion 5 is there anny different between them ?
nico de draaier there's one that I-5 does not have a express lane and CA-91 has a express lane when Toll Road CA-241 ends
Jim, another thing. I thought Orange Rush meant that you were filming in Orange County & that you were using a song by the band Rush. Pretty crazy huh?
Jacob Timmons it's crush not rush
That would have been a good connection.
Not sure what you mean?
otro espectacular video ,amigo......!!!!!!!
¿cual es el limite de velocidad en las autopistas de usa ?
marcelo,desde rosario,santa fe,argentina.......
Thank you, the speed limit on this stretch is 65 MPH.
1:48 - 1:52 Is it just me or is that the new limited edition Infiniti FX 35?
I have no idea, not a car guy.
I love watching your vids! Are you only comfy "behind" the camera? I would love to interview you on my show about what you do! Let me know :)
LOL Thanks Tracy, that could probably be arranged ;)
That's what I'm talking about! I'll inbox ya on Facebook :)
Tracy Allen Please be sure to do it on my personal account and not the FreewayJim feed :)

"Grab your air guitar and play!"
Please tell me you weren't playing an "air guitar" while driving...
John Randall Banks he was not he got the music from RUclips red
John Randall Banks he just want us to have a air guitar
LOL, I can promise you that I wasn't.
Hey, you recycled your 'on the road again' music - this ride was a lot different than your original I-81 video :)
LOL!
:)
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks!
