As a civil Engineer, this pains me. The reason buildings use bricks and concrete is cause they have a good tensile strength, poor resisting strength. Rebar is the opposite. Each building material has it's own use, putting a brick which is meant to be used with rebar vs a lego brick which should stand on its own, of course one will win, the other won't

They added the tubes on the anti studs later, but ye they still connect to old ones, my mothers old Lego connects to new ones poorly tho, they slide off easily.
My dad has old lego that I played with sometimes growing up and some of the old lego was like the newer stuff but some didn't fit it and wasn't really compatable so either lego has changed it's design over the years or he had some knock off stuff, but I kind of doubt a knock off toy would be well made enough to go decades unbroken

Given the tiny bricks size, to make a "authentic" looking brick wall, youd use very little, so there probably wasnt much there holding it together. Theres also the thought that maybe he didnt let it dry all the way and the morter was still wet/damp and not fully set
The problem is it’s very hard as it would take too much time. Another problem is legos are easily separated from each other destroying the house’s structure.
You didn’t use much mortar for the lap joint. It also takes about 30 days for mortar to fully harden and I’m assuming you didn’t leave it there fore that long. Bricks are also un effected by uv light unlike Lego
