I just fixed mine using white vinegar and then with some Lime A Way foam spray. Then I took some fine steel wool, wrapped it around the lever shaft and twisted the lever. Works like a charm and it looks new after the steel wool removed the gunk.
I was going to say the same thing:). This guy pretty much pour oil down the drain. And oil doesn't dissolve calcium build up, if calcium build up IS the issue.
@@pn3940 Anything with petrolium eats away the rubber in the diverter. Mine is stuck in the up position and I had to use a wrench to turn the pin cus it was stuck but after a bit of WD 40 it fixed it up great and working like it's new. Thank you for posting this video!
Uh, WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. It is a water displacement product, hence the name WD. Also spraying WD-40 on the rubber washer that is inside the tub spout will cause the washer to deteriorate. More likely, your tub spout diverter is sticking due to calcium buildup from hard water. Although it will take longer than WD-40, white vinegar will do the same thing and not damage the rubber washer.
THANKS! It works like new. It was my first thought to use this but instead I used some CLR first to try and dissolve what looked like calcium build up, because it was really stuck and would not budge. Then I saw your clip and it made it more possible so I tried it. The CLR wasn't working. So I went ahead and tried the WD40. I let it sit a while. At first it would not even pull up. It took a few tries. And patience. And prayers, lol. But I followed the rest of your instructions and finally, it happened and now it works great!!🙌
This really works. My lifter arm was totally frozen and using this method I was able to get the arm to work again and my shower is flowing that way it did when it was nes.
worked like a charm. Thank you!! Now, second part of the problem: some water still coming out of the bottom. Looks like the washer is still there and intact.

Ugh... .no petrolium products on rubber!! you can't use anything with petrolium in it. .it will eat away the washer in the diverter mechanism. You have to use plumbers grease, but you shouldn't need that at all for this. if it's sticking then the parts should be relaced. I wonder how many people had their rubber eaten away by the petrolium in the wd40.
Would this solve one that is completely stuck in the up position, like I think it's rusted in place lol not sure how to take the faucet off or I would leave it in some vinegar
There are videos on how to take faucet off depending on which type. That’s the easy part. I could not take my spout off, so will have to get someone to help. You can also fill baggie with vinegar and attach to faucet with rubber band so insides are submerged. I did that too but didn’t work in my case. Good luck!

What a great question! I googled it. First sentence I saw was, "Actually wd 40 is bad for rubber anything. Just ask any air soft gun hobbyist. They avoid it to lube their guns because it destroys rubber seals. The best option here would be a silicone based lube."

I realize you only have two hands but you really need to support that spout as it’s bending as it goes up and down
