The word wassail is lost among us today, im somerset born and raised, one of my first jobs working as a hand at a cider farm, i was introduced to wassailing, im nearly 30 now and ive taught every friend and drinking buddy to cheer wassail instead of cheers 🍻
I dont know if other counties have such pride, like you play adge cuttler and the wurzels and im just as county proud as my great grandfather is, i love being south western, im a wurzel carrot muncher and im gosh darn proud of it, ive got the red wyvern on a field of yellow flying above my work shed
I just want you to know this brother! Here in Texas, we have wassailling festivals this time of year! Several towns near where I grew up and live have competitions between businesses and groups on town square during the Christmas festivals where we all try and rate wassail for who has the best!
May God grant you a Merry Christmas and many years! Love from Texas
You are perfect bro. Please just grow it back in the motherland. Thank you for saying that. Gives me hope for Mother Britainia.

Love from the American South. We remember where we came from an we love you no matter what anyone else says. Merry Christmas an God bless you.
I like this carol and the Coventry carol.
This is the first time I have heard this since my boyhood, some sixty years ago. We used to sing it in the school choir. Thankyou.
Wonderful mate. Merry Christmas!
@@patrioticarchive you too Merry Christmas and also a happy new year from Chicago ☃️. As you probably know here in the USA it's usually sung as Here we come a Caroling. It has the same meaning as a wassailing in Britain. The word "caroling" is just easier for us Americans to sing 😂
@@resetsetmefree478 Merry belated Christmas! It's Wonderful to hear that the carol is known and sung in America. In all honesty I don't think most Brits would know what wassailing is either lol.
@@patrioticarchive yes it seems that it's a custom which may still be done sometimes in rural or suburban areas but not so much in larger cities where neighbors really don't know each other very well. As you may know , a similar custom is children Trick or Treating on Hallowe'en. Customs like this seem to vary in popularity depending on the region
Another blogger said that wassailing is like Trick or Treating except it's for alcohol instead of candy! I never even thought of comparing the two before I saw his post but I can see he's absolutely right
@@resetsetmefree478 Well, you have wassailing like caroling (relating to Christmas or New Years) but there's also an old English pagan tradition of singing to trees and drinking beer, that's also called wassailing: ruclips.net/video/kFwKFseL8WQ/видео.html
Wassaling is done about January 19th.
You sing to the apple trees and wake them up.
I first knew this song when I looked at a Duolingo post back in December 2023. When I saw the name of this song, I never knew it, so I searched up the song, and I found this one video. This is my favorite Christmas song. I love it.
British choirs sound so heavenly, especially when they sing Christmas songs
Lovely carol and so heart warming that someone cares enough to share Olde English traditional songs , God bless you sir .
Thank you for the kind words mate! I'm glad you enjoyed the carol 👍
Very festive Christmas music. I found your excellent channel recently and have been binge watching your videos. Best wishes to you from Ireland!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad to hear you enjoy the channel 👍

Good stuff mate. Merry Christmas!
Very nice video sir!!!
Lovely carol
The high school choir I am in sung it for our 2023 winter choir concert. Wasn’t able to make it, but was fun practicing and singing this majestic piece!
What lovely music, must say sir I's weep a little, I love the background and seeing that lovely editing of the islands smack bang in the middle of every video.
Thanks again for a necessary addition to my collection of Patriotic Britonic Beats haha. Hope you have a very merry christmas Patriotic Archive and to all as well who enjoy PA's work a very merry christmas!
P.S; Patriotic Britonic Beats sounds like a good radio station name..... ;)
Tis a wonderful carol. Thank you for the kind words mate 👍 I really do appreciate all the support the channel receives. Leon Best has suggested the radio idea aswell... I'd love to see it haha.
Great 👍
First heard this tune when the Lordship Ringers played it on a Two Ronnies xmas show. Took me ages to find out what it was called and hear it again!🤔😁
It's a good song, but I can't think of anything but Mordecai covered in "cranberry sauce" thanks to Lackadaisy
I'm gonna try and organize a group to wander around the rich neighborhood and shake the residents by song this year.
Loving the channel name, & Merry Christmas 🎄🎁😇🕊️
Merry Christmas, I always wanted to know this songs lyrics 🎅
Merry Christmas!
I'm not familiar with this Carol, such a lovely festive melody it's a shame it has fallen out of common use. Thank you for sharing this🌸🎄
Agreed! Tis a wonderful carol. You're welcome and thank you for listening 👍
It certainly has not fallen out of common use.
@@Wotsitorlabart I base my comment purely on the fact I've not heard this lovely Carol before.
Ireland and England!!!
North America totally needs to bring back trick or treat for alcohol.
That goes fine until the end of the street 😅😅
Hell yes I was just saying this exact thing yesterday!
Important now more than ever to show pride in our past music and traditions before they are removed completly. Nothing like this is now shown on British tv as i remember 70s 80s and 90s this would be commonplace on tv.😢
Christmass Carols is among the few things England gave us that are good
I do prefer 'Eat bake sing's' version.

What is wassail?
Wassail is a British fruit punch like drink that’s typically served during Christmas time. Wassailing is singing carols and people offering wassail afterwards. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks! But what's in it? And what's in smoking bishop that people dip s hot fireplace poker in?
A ceremony when the parishoners go out into the orchards and toast the apple trees and offer a libation for a bumper crop on the new year. Once celebrated in parts of Britain and Ireland, I know it from Gloucestershire and Herefordshire .
Thank you!
I personally hate this!
