    The one good thing Yanwen did in this scene is enforce what Ruyi said to him earlier about the harem and how Ruyi was so loyal to him but he was so disloyal and disrespectful to Ruyi. She made him see that others were able to see how sincere and loyal Ruyi was to him and that they all could see how he mistreated her and allowed her to be compromised by the scheming of women who were never sincere in their feelings towards him.

    The sad thing is Ruyi never wanted to be the Empress her heart was not there. She only wanted to accompany her husband on his journey as Emperor. This is what she told Empress Dowager her mother in-law. The sad thing is all the women who did want the seat as the Empress didn’t know that the first Empress placed a curse on the throne for anyone who succeeded or tried to succeed after her death, she said that she would be watching from the other side. Also Consort Ling was poisoned to death as a symbol of how poisonous she was. Au’ro met the same fate being poisoned and then muted because she also wanted the Empress seat... but he told the first Empress that “Empress “ was just a title and position. Maybe that’s why he never made anyone Emperess after that. Consort Rong from the beginning told him that she didn’t love him. I guess he had to hear it from someone who was up close and personal she mirrored the Emperor. The Emperess Dowager told Ruyi that the person the most cruel and not to be trusted is the Emperor.

    Something I came to realize after watching this many times. Notice how the Empress Dowager answers to Ling at 10:20 about how she wouldn't dare to harm people? This answer gets extra dimension, when we remember how Zhen Huan covered up Ling's involvement in Consort Shu's death and health problems, alongside with the whole issue with the 10th Prince. In a way, I believe the Dowager might feel guilty, because had she stepped in at the time and let Ling face consequences and many people would have been spared.
    I mean, the Dowager saves her ass/face after murdering two people and Ling still dares to pretend she is innocent?

      Historically, Qianlong knew very well what he was doing when he killed off entire nations (e.g. the Dzungars). His 2nd wife, Empress Nara (aka Ruyi) was a devout Buddhist who eventually even wanted to become a nun and who was respected by the ministers even in death. It's very likely that due to her character and religious beliefs, she didnt approve of his killings or promiscuous ways. Hence why she chose to relinquish her Empress title by cutting her hair.

      Yup. So ultimately, she did succeed in her goal in increasing her family's standing. But if I'm remembering correctly, the empress Dowager even makes commentary later on but it's a shame that it is Yan Wan's son that becomes Emperor and not Hailan's son/Ruyi's foster son. Simply because he had been raised so well and having these two women occupy the two seats that Ruyi's aunt and the Empress Dowager were originally supposed to share at the beginning of the show would have been amazing because of the quality of both women.
      It's even more ironic because the emperor made sure to punish Jia and make sure that none of her sons could become emperor after he uncovered that she was scheming with his death in mind. For some unknown reason, unless yan Wan's son was the only one left alive, the emperor did not do the same for her

    I'm so confused, in Yanxi's palace, Lady Ling was most loved by the emperor and her son eventually became the next emperor (according to actual history). In this show, it's different..

    • @myrtlesnow2397
      @myrtlesnow2397 4 года назад +9

      Realistically both representations are inaccurate, but it is a drama for a reason. Concubine Ling was extremely favored by the Emperor, had many children with him and quickly rose through the ranks. The Step Empress however was his original side wife, and did not have any children until after she became the Empress, which was 20 years after they had been married, so most likely they never really loved each other, he probably did his best to do his duty and sire children by his Empress. It took her 10 years just to rise from Consort to Noble Consort, while Concubine Ling climbed numerous ranks in 4 years. Concubine Ling is also buried in the same tomb as the Emperor and his first Empress XiaoXianChun. I wonder if the Step Empress never cut her hair, if she would be buried with them as well, instead of in the tomb of Imperial Noble Consort Chun Hui buried as a maid.

      Enkidu
      YP is a comedic take with limited scope that show ended with her becoming Imperial Noble Consort after Ruyi cut her hair;
      whereas here RRLitP it’s full story picture to his death and it was like 12 years after that, that Hailan and Taihou got all evidence found out her deeds because all the eligible heirs she murdered are gone, and there was no abled sons left and Emperor is too old not enough sperm / he wasted to make kids even with young girls virgins. They didn’t exactly have artificial insemination you know. The real Hongli is fat.. infact much sick like King Henry 8th.. I think they are the same pathetic entity.

      Well History isn’t accurate.. the victor writes “HIS”story
      The one in power dictates the *history*
      So if the writer lies and leaves out the truth like what Hongli’s obituary to Langhua spun her as this virtuous saint of an Empress XiaoXianChun when she lived, conspired to make Gao and Ruyi infertile with fake nice words sisters bracelets 😝 plotted /murdered heirs Consorts concubines in her way.
      It’s BS. All because weak emperor can’t let the people know His wife, and hurt fhe Fucha Clan, that she and her mother abused power and failed/ mismanaged the Harem and don’t want to look bad as a negligent husband, father, bad lover etc. so anyone who says otherwise to their narrative gets death sentence.. no one dared speak up truth.. which they take to the grave.

      @@kateli1880 Normally there's actual historical evidence to counter the drama in these types of shows. But here I have to agree. Much like the Egyptian dynasties, the Chinese Imperial dynasties did whatever they had to so all of the important people in the court could be as virtuous as possible.
      If you take a look at the official records of the members of Qianlong's harem, the official records all describe the most prominent ones as literally *the* feminine ideal of their time period. Given the obvious about human nature, something is blatantly suspect lmao.

    Honestly Noble Consort Ling is not so unlikeable compared to the emperor. She is evil, cunning and vindictive, but one sentence that she said makes her less awful somehow. She dared to tell the emperor that she never truly liked the emperor either knowing that the emperor never truly loved her anyways. That sentence actually shows that she believes love should be mutual. Maybe she knew from the very beginning that the emperor is a selfish, narcissistic, cruel and disgusting creature and hence decided to play this strategic royalty "game" with the sole view to gaining power and helping her son to become the next king at all costs. Plus, she used to suffer as well. It is the cruelty of people in the Forbidden City that made her what she is. She is hateful, but she is also a victim. If she were to live in the modern democratic society, maybe she could be a responsible mom and a loving wife. Ultimately it is the feudalism that is to blame.

    • @scrappymom7881
      @scrappymom7881 Год назад

      But isn't that just an excuse? Wasn't everyone except the Emperor subject to the rules of living in that time period, living in the Forbidden City? She wasn't the only one ever punished for making mistakes, being beautiful, or even scheming. However, she decided that the best response to this was to blackmail, poison, murder, plot more schemes, etc. I'm not sure there are any redeeming qualities about her. Even the fact that she recognized how pathetic the Emperor was. In this drama, who actually loved the Emperor? Shu, Ruyi, ??? The rest saw him for what he was, the only way to survive.
