What a great performance! To attempt to play the Paganini variations, arguably one of the most technically difficult solo violin pieces, not to mention in such challenging and unforgiving acoustics, takes some courage not to mention ability.
@aldjeron the nail polish is a protein strengthener for his pizz work. if you notice, he is fretting with his first finger and plucking with his fourth fingernail. it's longer than his other nails, and needs to be stronger so he doesn't break it. it's pretty common for classical guitarists as well.
loved it! his playing, his personality! lots of difficult double string passages, well carried out! even though i think the resonance in this room wasnt flattering fot the violin.
Fabulous&Impressive Performance..HOW is Charlie arrogant??.He DOESN'T try to come off as some rock star..Like a certain Violinist..He's Posh,Elegant Violinist w/a British accent..Annd he's soo Charming&GORGEOUS.. A New Fan in #Connecticut U.S. #CharlieSiemViolin 🎻🎼🎵🎶❤ Future Virtuoso/Maestro..
Agreed, sad to see how many unnecessarily snobby attitudes there are. I must have missed the part where he said "I am the best violinist and the best performer of this piece" warranting criticism.
On weekdays this guys plays a mean violin. On weekends he probably sips Riesling poolside at the country club and laughs about the plights of the local proletariat
@aldjeron He said on BBC Breakfast (August 29th 2011) that it was just a bit of fun, "a ritual I go through when I'm going to play". You can see the interview here on RUclips or at his homepage.
Most excellent! The other fingers must feel pinky is trying to upstage them. The Europeans feel the same way about Edgar Meyer's American accent, you know and he has the same chops, but on a double bass violin.
@HitchSlapYouSon These types of questions are usually asked out of curiosity which generally proceeds the accumulation of knowledge. Smooth off the chip my friend.
It’s kind of funny and unfortunate how violinists who play with a del gesu have to always mention stradivarius in the same sentence, The Scottie Pippin of violins
I think the same thing. None of this is very polished, its so rough and off putting specifically the Paganini. I mean the skill and the sound is there, but the music is all over the place.
Yea what makes you say that, im curious? Because i got a similar vibe, especially when,I saw, they made,a,documentary about, him, and how he lives in a mansion and yet says people cant relate to him..seemed awfully pretentious to me...why a documentary like he's bloody Nelson Mandela or something...

Incredible guy & an incredible performance. He has a great personality, too.
I really would have enjoyed being in the audience, as it's an honor.
His left-handed pizz. is divine. As a fellow violinist, I am very jealous of how easy he makes it look.
I never thought anyone could be so obscenely good looking AND talented....
Amazing performance with charm and perfection !Left hand pizzicato is divine 👏👏👏👏
Charlie I enjoyed listening to all your playing. Especially the Alt Wien Godowsky. It's my favorite too.
Jesus, those ring and pinky fingers have such god-like strength, I can't.

Brill performance! Love the neon nail - adds to the performance!
that violin is the star of this video. dear del gesu, what a violin
loved it! his playing, his personality! lots of difficult double string passages, well carried out! even though i think the resonance in this room wasnt flattering fot the violin.
This doesn't do him justice. I just watched a 1 hour show on TVO called "the Modern Man" and it was all about Charlie, his playing was magnificent.
Coming here from 'Modern Man' just now. :)
Remarkable playing, combining technique, flair and creativity!

pandora: charlie siem. i could listen to him all day. and i now will.
I love this series, especially the amazing violinists!
i like charlie
I know this is besides the point, but he's dreamy, add the accent and the violin...it's all so dreamy.
Beautiful playing. Beautiful player.
Sensational playing.Lovely violin.
I love the faces, haha. Sometimes he looks like he's thinking "Ya, that sounded good."
oh my..I just died. He makes it look easy. Impressive!!!
Agreed, sad to see how many unnecessarily snobby attitudes there are. I must have missed the part where he said "I am the best violinist and the best performer of this piece" warranting criticism.
Honestly if painting his pinky finger pink gives him a more powerful pizz there's no need to discuss how posh he is. All power to him
i am not a violinist but i understand why he does this, he may look vain but he is really good, and also a good sport.
Handsome young trick turns tricks. Way to go, NPR.
Lot of jealous people in the comment section. Great job, Charlie!
I love the part where he whistles the note instead of playing it in the violin. Hilarious! Hahaha. I love you, Charlie!
Beautiful!
girl gimme dat
girl?
I AM SOOOO IN LOVE
On weekdays this guys plays a mean violin. On weekends he probably sips Riesling poolside at the country club and laughs about the plights of the local proletariat
OK, I'm in love.
In this video, is he using Dominant strings? [for G D A; and my guess is Goldbrokat for the E?]
This guy is a major boss.
And he knows it too.
Holy Jesus...
Oh he is so dreamy...
This guy blows.....My mind.

my ancestor was kind of like paganini except he also invented pennsylvania
La la la looved this!
I fucking love his hair.
He fucking loves it too
Most excellent! The other fingers must feel pinky is trying to upstage them. The Europeans feel the same way about Edgar Meyer's American accent, you know and he has the same chops, but on a double bass violin.
I couldn't agree more! I wonder where does this super craze for 'celebrity' violinists come from. Some of them shouldn't even get concert proposals.
Very nice music
luv him
Nailed it.
He always paints that fingernail before a concert as a sort of ritual for good luck, at least i heard him say so in an interview. :)
@HitchSlapYouSon These types of questions are usually asked out of curiosity which generally proceeds the accumulation of knowledge. Smooth off the chip my friend.
@aldjeron it's is one of his good luck charms
hot hot hot hot hot hot hot
♠️🎻✨
It’s kind of funny and unfortunate how violinists who play with a del gesu have to always mention stradivarius in the same sentence, The Scottie Pippin of violins
Obsessed with him - what is that E string he's using?
yeah, he said in an interview that he pains his left pinkie finger for good luck before performances
Haha, in his interview, he said it's kinda like a good luck thing. Like you know 'break a leg' he kinda does it for luck :D
with the reggie watts pinky!
6:04 funniest moment in the video. :D
So you're saying there are no funny moments in the video?
6:04
Sounds awfully good to me. And I get pleasant, rather than pompous.
paganini's music is more about the technique than the progressions. i personally like the progressions too though
weill.. it is a pinkie, right?
por que voce pinta as unhas? maravilhosa musica e musico
@aldjeron It's kind of a 'ritual' he goes through every time he plays. He says it's "just a bit of fun" :)
How is he related to Ole Bull?
@aldjeron either he's hipster or its some sort of visual reference mechanism...Im leaning towards hipster though
@jonnithundahhhh I can't find a station for him. How did you find it?
漂亮是一回事,有故事是另一回事。确实,难做到这么有叙事性,有故事。@查理‧席姆 同学
What’s the venue? Anyone knows?
its kind of a ritual for him. he does this before every performance to calm himself. or something like that :P
meisterhaft
does anyone know what are these strings? tnxxx
I'm pretty sure they're Dominants. But There's string color keys out there that you could find.
I'd let him blow my mind ;)
Is he the real Edward Cullen?
1. что с его постановкой? почему скрипка так сильно повернута вперёд? 2. почему ногти розовые? не понятно
насчёт ногтей тоже вопрос.. а скрипка так лежит походу потому, что он вперёд наклонен сильно. На концертах ровнее держит
Smoking HOT!!!
Why is he wearing nail polish?
bye, going, gone. Im gone
I found him a bit pitchy
600
This guy is truly amazing, but he just dosn't evoke any feelings in me. And I wonder why, cause' his playing is fantastic.
errr....hows he playing TWO VIOLINS AT THE SAME TIME?!?!??!!
These are double notes played on two strings at the same time.
Whatever that was at 3:00 was terrible.
It happens to everybody. Sometimes rosin just doesn't do its job 100%.
is my standard too high or is the standard lower now? I don't see the talent sorry. Paganini is laughing in his grave
ummmmm... ACtually; He IS a Violin.
It's better if you don't watch.
This kid seems like an absolute Punter...
Paganini was disappointed to you, you played his music so bad!!
I think it is a fake nail, handy for finger picking.
he is in love with himself, not with the music
Why is his pinky finger painted? If your gonna paint your nails at least do them all!
cas4pip Its one of his pre-concert traditions :)
Madi Good to know, thanks!
your left hand pizzicato is not really good.. just more practice ok.
anyone who have listened to other versions of those pieces would know he plays pretty bad...
yes... i cant do it. but i heard another violinist play this, so amazing
such a primitiv playing, why he become famous? just because it is "hot" ? sad....
I think the same thing. None of this is very polished, its so rough and off putting specifically the Paganini. I mean the skill and the sound is there, but the music is all over the place.
oh yeah? lets hear you play it . he is not elite class, but he is certainly far from primitive.
lol this dude seems insufferable, plays well though
Yea what makes you say that, im curious? Because i got a similar vibe, especially when,I saw, they made,a,documentary about, him, and how he lives in a mansion and yet says people cant relate to him..seemed awfully pretentious to me...why a documentary like he's bloody Nelson Mandela or something...
last time I checked nail polish was for females
Justin Carter hahaha
He is gay
Justin Carter when did you last check? 1931?
