Does anyone know what happened to the Cannibal in the books? From what i read, Cannibal never participates in the Dance.
@@deanxiii1595 he deadass flies off never to be seen again lol. Another dragon and their rider also rides off and is never seen again as well. Most likely he went back to their home land even though he was never born there. The other dragon could actually still be alive in the books because dragons can live over 200 years and that one was still kinda young during the dance. Sheepstealer was it’s name but if it is alive it’d be a very old dragon. In the current timeline but it would make sense.
@@dillonmartin7411 Yeah i forgot about Sheepstealer. So, there are two dragons of the three wild dragons whose fate is still unknown. Grey Ghost was killed and partially devoured by Sunfyre when Aegon II sneaked back into Dragonstone during the Dance. I hope GRRM discloses the fate of the two dragons or hopefully makes an appearance in Winds of Winter. To be honest, even though it's fiction, it truly saddens me to see the fate of the dragons. One by one got killed in the course of Dance of the Dragon😞.
The blacks may have the biggest amount of dragons but the greens have the biggest dragon.

I think that after the doom of Valeryia that the dragons were too far from their source of magic and power. It's stated that the dragons in Westeros, over generations, became small and weak. So , their end was inevitable.

To be fair, they were being kept locked up in the pit, and being unable to roam seems to stunt them as we see from Rhaego and Viserion versus Drogon (who is the biggest already but it's a pronounced difference) when they were locked in the pyramid of Mereen.
The pre-Dany dragon's fate is probably also a narrative device, designed to show us how far they have fallen as the dragons are intrinsically linked to the Targaryens.
It has nothing to do with Valyria, the dragons became smaller because they were locked up in "stables", and a dragon in captivity will grow less than one that is free (that's why Drogon was bigger than his brothers, despite the fact that they were born on the same day)
And in Valyria the largest dragons were the size of Balerion or Vhagar and were over 150 years old, they couldn't be bigger because they would be excessively heavy and unable to fly
They got smaller because they kept the dragons in caves for a long period of time instead of having them free or having them outside for a longer period. Which caging them would stunt their growth. I also heard that dragon rider bloodline is needed. The last of the dragon riders' house/ bloodline like the targaryens was diluting through different marriages. The blood is what bonds & semi controls them. Both the Valyrians & dragons were magical creations that were one in the same through the blood. Blood magic

Helena had no part in this war yet she suffered the most and got tortured by her uncle and sister in the most horrible way, i really hoped she had her dragon and fought with it instead of giving up and suicide
Given her upbringing and "options", what else was there for her to do? She didn't have the fire inside of a battle rider, nor the fight or 'freedom' as Rheanyra to put up so much as an attitude and was what her mother's father wanted of his daughter - an obedient doll. @@sanjaykarthicks1226 What do you need experience for in certain circumstances? Besides, being a good dragonsrider doesn't automatically mean you have experience in warfare. I'm not aware that Rhaenys has experience in war, Daemon does. Not to mention that experience is of no use if you are then trapped between two dragons and then burned alive.
@@erys8957 Meleys almost beat Sunfyre before Vhagar interrupted (and it was reported that Meleys would have been a match for Vhagar alone). And Caraxes killed Vhagar (while also dying but still). So while Vhagar did some heavy lifting, the Greens dragons weren't enough.
Sad that Canibal never did anything. He was such a wild card and would make any situation more interesting.
Supposedly show runners plan on including him in the show so maybe someone does ride him. Which would be awesome since he's the biggest dragon

The blacks may have more dragons, but they don't have enough bodies to man all of those dragons. SPOILER WARNING* they seek out bastard born commoners with valyrian blood that can bond with the free dragons and that ultimately leads to both the blacks losing the war and the targeryen family losing their dragon supremacy. (Yes, technically the blacks win in the end because Aegon III ends up on the throne, but Aegon II had already named him his heir before being poisoned so I wouldn't count this as a black win. Im not here for a debate).

Even if Aegon III was made heir by his uncle, that counts because he is Aegon II's nephew

@sanjaykarthicks1226 the point of my comment wasn't to debate whether or not it is a green or black win since that is a debate on it's own, but one can equally say it is a green win since this whole war was over the proper line of succession. At the end of the war Aegon II was King which follows the proper succession, then after him, it would've been either his nephew (the next male in line) or his daughter (a girl) and he and everyone there agreed it should be his nephew. Then the black allies that arrived after Aegon II was poison agreed with the outcome. And Rhaenyra's temporary reign was never added to the citadel's record, so history only remembers Aegon II's reign and then Aegon III's reign, so it's a green victory. But this wasn't about who won, it was about dragons lol
Aegon III was the only known male Targaryen left at the time, so he was heir by default.
@@sanjaykarthicks1226 Doesn't matter really, Aegon II won the dance as he defeated Rhaenyra and he is recognised by the successors as the rightful king. I don't understand this "it was Rhaenyras line" nonsense because Aegon II is still part of the Targ dynasty as he is Aegon III and Viserys II uncle, they all have the same blood coming from Viserys I.
That being said Aegon III was only kept alive because there was no other male available.
I understand Cregan was marching on Kings landing but I highly doubt he would do anything because the Velaryon fleet was still in control over the sea and Aegon III, Baela and Rhaena were all still Aegon II hostage. Not too sure what the relief army could do tbh even if they arrived.
I'm disregarding the fact that the Lannister guy on the council was in the free cities recruitng for sellswords and hightowers could easily raise another Army.
@@BALLARDTWIN many also know that Aegon was an usurper. Only stannis sees Rhaenyra as an usurper. There are others like Arianne who knew the history. She knows Rhaenyra was Viserys's chosen heir. Also the greens lost because their line dies and the blacks thrive in a way.
Ultimately the war weakened the Targaryens as they lost their dragons.
sunfyre is the best of them all and has a deeper bond with his rider than any other dragon/rider in the whole series

-teen dragons is not a term that exist in canon and we don't know how old Tessarion or Sunfyre are, just that Tessarion was born in 120AC or earlier and that Sunfyre is older. they are both considered grown dragons
-both Ulf the White and Hugh Hammer defected from Rhaenyra and then defected from Aegon aswell because they wanted more than they were given, so fought for themself
-if you say mid-end war those numbers make no sense because most dragons died during the Dance
So technically it was for the outbreak of the war after the dragonseeds had gotten their dragons, not counting the two that end up fighting for themselves:
At the start it's rideable dragons:
Blacks: Syrax, Caraxes, Meleys, Moondancer, Vermax, Tyraxes, so 6
If we include the two dragonseeds that end up fighting for Rhaenya it's 8
Greens: Dreamfyre, Vhagar, Tessarion, Sunfyre.
Do you really need riders ? I mean Daenerys had 2 riderless dragons and they caused more than enough damage by themselves
It is obvious that they need dragon riders, otherwise they will not know who is the enemy and who is an ally, or when there are battles and where to go
The only time Daenerys was able to use her 3 dragons was when she destroyed the slavers' fleet, and only because the dragons understood that they had to destroy everything that floated, since her mother was doing it
I think it matters who is better at strategy and war.

@@videobooks3 things were simple. But I can't understand why they were maded complicated. Daemon and lady rhea had a son aerion, rider of vermithor who would have married rhaenyra. Since it was midieval world rhaenyra would have 3 sets of twins from aerion. 5 years later he somehow died. Maybe during fighting in stepstones. Daemon would marry laena after rhea died. He also mediate marriage between laenor and rhaenyra. Rhaenyra had another set of twins allyn and Adam, riders of vermithor and silverwing. Rhaenyra's daughter, twin of Jace would die during fight with vhagar in vale. Greens had 4 more dragons and greens had dragonseeds. That's it

It honestly seems like Agon is just a pawn in Ottos game. Rhaenyra and Agon didn't even share a scene. This clearly shows that the conflict goes much deeper than who sits on the throne.

Vhagar is a fucking problem tbh that thing alone would dust half the Dragons the Blacks have. Daemon and caraxes literally went for a suicide shot to defeat Vhagar and despite being surprised Vhagar still ripped apart Caraxes b4 they both fell to their death. I would argue Vhagar only lost being Daemon is far more experienced rider than Aemond. Daemon effectively used Caraxes Nimbleness, Aemond should have baited Caraxes instead of playing a cat and mouse game.

Well the Blacks decided to to launch a full scale dragon attack on the Greens as they had more dragons but decided not to as they didn’t had enough dragon riders for all dragons and also Vhagar was one of the dragons they were supposed to fight
In the books the canibal is untamable and is an absolute monster even compared to vhaegar, if Damon somehow manages to get it on the side of the black in the show its insta GG

The Blacks technically have more but they way oversold themselves. Not every dragon is equal to another, and most Black dragons are very young, most can't even to ridden yet they're that small. The only dragons worth anything on the Blacks' side are Caraxes, Meleys, Vermithor, Silverwing, and Seasmoke, of which only 2 have riders and can be truly counted on team Black.

@@wyattbequette3596 Well the Greens all died, whereas the Blacks had survivor, which is why they are considered the winners. Especially since Aegon II died while the Dance was stil happening, the Dance of Dragons ended with Aegon IIs dead, they were at war until he died.
Also Aegon II specifically made sure the citadel would not Rhaenyra only as Princess, not as Queen and Aegon II is refeared to as Aegon the Usurper.
So it's quiet a bit more complicated than that.
On the other hand, a ton of Targs were pretty horrible, I agree. One of the main takes from anything asoiaf realated is: one family in power is a very bad thing.
Although if Robert wanted all Targaryens dead, he could start with himself seeing as his grandmother was one, and he didn't hate them for the right reasons, he wasn't a better king than most Targaryen King's either.
Not as bad as Aerys or Maegor sure, but Jaehaerys, Viserys II, Daeron II, Aegon V and Jaehaerys II were all by far better kings than Robert.
It's like real royalty, sometimes you ge a great king, sometimes you get a terrible king, and in between you get a bunch of kings that are somewhere in betweeen but certainly didn't do the realm any good in the long run (see Viserys I, Robert).

She was a dragon and was old enough to eat the dragons of Rhaenyra's children almost whole. At least she has more experience than most. Syrax is not even half Dreamfyre's age and Rhaenyra rode her mainly to move from place to place, it is also said that in King's Landing, in her later years, Syrax was kept chained to the floor. When she came to 'help' during the uprising, she was free to fly and breathe fire on the crowd, yet she used only claws and fangs and got herself killed by a group of hungry commoners. It is said that Dreamfyre killed more people from inside the pit without opportunity to fly than all the other dragons combined.

@Javier Valenzuela You can't change the precedent that the first born son inherits, otherwise some jealous older sister can make a claim to the throne and will plunge the realm into war to get it. It will literally cause generations of war and suffering. Alot of people don't realize just how awful of a choice it is.

things were simple. But I can't understand why they were maded complicated. Daemon and lady rhea had a son aerion, rider of vermithor who would have married rhaenyra. Since it was midieval world rhaenyra would have 3 sets of twins from aerion. 5 years later he somehow died. Maybe during fighting in stepstones. Daemon would marry laena after rhea died. He also mediate marriage between laenor and rhaenyra. Rhaenyra had another set of twins allyn and Adam, riders of vermithor and silverwing. Rhaenyra's daughter, twin of Jace would die during fight with vhagar in vale. Greens had 4 more dragons and greens had dragonseeds. That's it

Since you said "currently have" and mentioned which dragons the Blacks have on Dragonstone w/o mentioning which go unclaimed, I'm assuming you're going by the show, in which case: Your numbers are slightly off. There are 16 dragons so far. Stormcloud and Morning haven't hatched yet, and if we ARE counting them (18) you also need to count Prince Jaehaerys and Princess Jaehaera's dragons, Shrykos and Morghul. (20).

I cant tell if i feel bad or not about the fact that all these dragons will die at the end of the Dance (except for those who are wild and Morning), the Targaryens dragons only brought suffering and death to Westeros, they are living nuclear bombs, its hard to feel sympathy for the dragons when they are shown to be mindless beasts of destruction

Caraxes all the way. Vhagar is like Gaboon Viper, huge but very slow. Caraxes on the other hand is like Inland Taipan, fastest and most aggressive. Also Daemon has way more command on Caraxes than Aemond can ever have on Vhagar. After what we saw in last season, Blacks can almost easily set a trap for Vhagar, all they have to do is provoke it and its gonna fly straight into the deathtrap. And without Vhagar, Greens will surrender themselves.
