How to install the door handle for Ikea wardrobe

Door handles seem to be a small detail. Sometimes there are no pre-drilled holes so you have to mark and drill them yourself. It is necessary to mark them correctly. Otherwise it really shows and disturbs the look of the whole furniture. Take your time and measure twice. Or more. In this video I am showing how I install the door handles. Just one way to do it.

Can be. Specially when you find that out in the end of the assembly :) . On the other hand, having no holes gives possibility to choose between different door handles.

Hi! Depends on the door handle. In this case I used 5mm drill bit. For the pilot hole I just used smaller than 5mm drill bit.

not much help if your entire door surface is flat, with no guiding 'feature' to align it with

Hi! Then I would measure the center of the door and mark the center on the guiding jig. The edge of the door would be the guiding point. That way I could use it. But yes, it is a bit more difficult.

when I drill it takes a lot longer, it makes smoke and it smells burnt
I have a 3.5mm wood drill bit
It took me 4 hours to drill the two screws for the handle, I haven't even put the hinges on yet. I'm thinking of giving up

Hi! Sorry to hear that. It seems to me that there could be two possibilities. On is that the drill bit is dull. I do no think it is the case here. The other is that the drill rotates the wrong way. It should rotate clockwise when drilling the material. Believe me when I say that the second situation has happened to me when in the midst of work I forgot to change the rotation of the drill back to the correct setting. Hope it helps :)

Depends on the handle, there's usually a piece of paper included showing the drill size. For mine it's 5 mm or 3/16"
