It's okay some people just want to get you exactly what you want others get annoyed and complain maybe you heard "veggies" instead of "would you like some veggies?" either way the answer would still be "yeah or yes" it's just misunderstanding most of the time it's not biggy bud :)
I know a buddy of mine who gets a bit nervous, and doesn't have good hearing. To add on that, English isn't his native language. So he always replies with yeah.
Its a subway thing, they have specific tools for different things, some have this double blade chopper thing. Some subways don't chop the salad entirely.
Once my manager had to leave the store for a personal reason, and only a new employee was left working alone. They ran out of something, and there was some in the back but they didn't know how to cut it. 😂 The customer even started complaining so my employee called me and I had to tell her how to comp a meal from 50 miles away

When I go to subway and I listen to other customers order sandwiches I always feel sad for the worker at how bad they are at communicating. But also I manage a pizza shop so I know first hand how bad people are at communicating but also I gotten really good at forcing them to tell them what they want. It's almost an art.
@Juan Entwistle usually I make customers tell me their vegetables while their sandwiches are toasting so they have to think about it, instead of waiting until the last second to decide. also if customers cant decide on the type of meat I'll ask what they usually get and make similar recommendations
One time I went to subway and the guy making my sandwich just left after putting the meat on, like 6 minutes later his co-worker comes out and says in the calmest voice... "The other guy just left, so I'll be taking over for now..." 😂
I wish I could be so enthusiastic about working in a sub shop like this. Every time a customer comes in I cringe, and they almost always find a way to be annoying. For example, we are a Canadian brand called Mr. Sub, and we get a lot of people who are used to subway. They'll ask for oil, a turkey bacon, Italian bread, Italian herbs and cheese, chicken teriyaki, etc. We have none of these things. We have white bread, but for some reason even though Italian is white at subway, they always want our Mediterranean greek, which has the herbs Edit: they also ask for Swiss, which we don't have

This is frustrating. The constant having to check in with customers would be maddening to me. And what is with that salad? Its like the most labor intensive salad ever made. They need to give you better tools than a freaking bowl and pizza cutter. If you are just gonna chop it up anyway, why not use machinery? Man. I admire your patience. Hey, yes it was a bit annoying, but they sounded quite foreign, so I assume the customers just had some issues with speaking and understanding. Also they might have never been to a subway before. In that case, a question like 'What do you want in your salad.", which seems very simple, might be difficult as they might not know what the options were (on top of the language difficulties.) I have quite some experience being a foreigner (I studied abroad for multiple years). Going to a bubble tea shop in Taiwan for the first time was overwhelming. All the options, I barely understood what half of the menu meant. Then I just asked for a bubble milk tea (their most standard drink). But they started asking me follow up questions: What size of cup? Big bubbles or small bubbles? What level of sugar? How much ice? I had difficulties understanding certain questions because I didn't have the vocabulary or because I just wasn't expecting the question so my brain wasn't 'wired in the right direction' to immediately link the Chinese sounds with the appropriate vocabulary. Once I knew the entire process, I had no issues with being immediately specific when ordering and I generally understood their questions when they asked and answered with the appropriate bubble-tea related vocabulary that I had picked up during my previous and more clumsy bubble tea ordering experiences. So even though it was a bit annoying, I can understand the position of the customer and I'm very happy that Milad was patient and repeated some of his questions multiple times to make sure the customer understood.
"Which vegetables would you like in your salad??"
Customer: "Yeah"
