  • Welcome to my race video for the Draycote Water 10k which I ran on 09.01.2022. The course takes you round Draycote Water, a large reservoir near Rugby, Warwickshire and is organised by a company called The Race Organiser.
    I’m at the end of week 1 sub 3:30 Shakespeare Marathon training and decided to see what shape I’m in for 10k. This is my first road race in almost 2 years so I set a time goal of aiming for under 45 minutes. A pace of 7.13 minutes per mile or 4.30 per kilometre.
    The day didn’t go exactly to plan but if you asked me if I’d run there again…. I definitely would!
    Thanks for watching 😊

    Hi Rachel well done great running. I have been to Draycote water a few times nice and flat still a challenge though and the trainer worked amazing 🤩

    Hi Rachel. I must say your videos are so good. I am really impressed with the intros and the way you managed to film during the race. A complete well-told story. Well done on the sub 45 min run, and getting 2nd lady, especially after all that hassle before the start. Interesting that your times are around what mine were many years ago. I usually finished very close to the first lady in a 10k or half marathon race. Hope you recovered well. Take care.

      Thanks Peter. I think it was another one of those races that I was purely who turned up on the day, that decided my position. I don’t know why it wasn’t more popular. Only about 220 runners and you could enter on the day as well. They run different distances each month and all being well I’ll go back for the 10 mile race in February. Thanks again for your encouragement on my channel and running journey 😊

      I didn’t actually think I was going to make it. It was either abandon the car miles away and run there or go home. Turns out if I’d just gone down the first ‘road closed’ road I’d have got there. But I was still 3 miles away and didn’t think I was allowed. But all turned out great in the end. Wow, that was an outstanding performance, Rachel! I didn't think you were going to make it but to basically take your 5k time from last week and maintain it for double the distance is just incredible. I can't imagine how much faster you would have been, too, if you weren't carrying the camera, what with the extra weight, and it spoiling your co-ordination!

    • @racheld1844
      @racheld1844  2 года назад

      Hi Prentis, thank you. When I race, I seem to have 1 fast speed, so strangely my 5k vs half marathon pace is very similar. It’s like i can only run in 4th gear and never reach 5th. Which is good for longer distances but not for short efforts like the 5k. The camera I used was an Insta360 go 2 which ,out of the case and clipped to the pivot stand, is so light it’s not noticeable. I agree I may of lost a few seconds but it was good fun to film and made the run go so much quicker knowing I had a little shot to take every so often….and when things hurt that much, the end can’t come soon enough 😀

    Good post run stash. It's been very icy, over here in the big smoke, super deceptive and you have to careful.

      Hi Avinash, thank you 😀 We’ve had pretty cold days all week too and looking forward to the frosty paths clearing. I was pretty confident in the trainers doing well as they just felt comfy and well fitted in the house. I once took the same gamble with some trail shoes for a 50 mile race. They just felt right and I wore them no problem the whole way. I did however have an old pair in a drop bag at 20 miles to change into if I hadn’t of been so lucky 😀

    • @racheld1844
      @racheld1844  2 года назад +3

      I can’t believe I never once mentioned the time in the video. I was driving home thinking how could I have missed that in my conclusion 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s hard to say whether the trainers helped. In a way I’d like to think they didn’t, but they probably did. The best way I can describe it is that I didn’t notice them, meaning that they fitted and moulded to my feet really well. I liked the cushioning too. I’ll be giving them plenty of opportunity to see if they are giving me an edge. I have plenty of races over the next few months 😊

  • @Tonyr2

Never ran in Nike ever and I wanted to see what they did for me (and black was the only colour in the sale 😀 but I quite liked the subtleness of them). They were really comfy and I did feel the springiness in them but I’m not sure how much they gave me. But I’ll definitely be giving a parkrun a go in them 😊

    • @Tonyr2
      @Tonyr2 2 года назад +1

      Dunno what your pb is on the 10 but still a great time. Some races I have been at and think this a great race but not a great attendance I can't figure why too. Yet I do a larger race which people rave about and it's a bit so-so for me. Don't me wrong all runs and races are positive, unless you pick up an injury of course, just don't see sometimes why some are over subscribed. Mad Dog is a 10k that sells out straight away I mean in minutes don't see why the fuss is about 🤔

      @@Tonyr2 - my 10k pb is 41:12 from 3.5 years ago. But I didn’t get to that speed overnight so I have to work hard to get anywhere near that again. The biggest factor was reoccurring injuries.
      I know some races that sell like that. There’s an ultra company who I enter with, they sometimes have events that go within an hour. The best thing is to wait 6 months and people then sell the spaces because they are injured or can’t do it anymore.
      Have you got another 5k or parkrun planned?
