As you say Rachel, you will definitely get some great training benefit from that effort. Excellent pace. You must already feel very confident about your 3:30 marathon goal. Well done. Good luck with the rest of your program.
Thank you Al, I crossed the line and saved my activity and saw my V02 max has gone up yet again. I think when I get some of the longer runs into the plan in the next few weeks I’ll look to reevaluate my 3:30 time goal …. but everything is fitting nicely into place 😊
Very impressive performance on that lovely sunny day 😁 You seemed to make the right choice with the kit after having all that time to decide! I think I'd have changed my mind about 5 times 😄👍🏻🏃♂️
I sat in the car until the last minute swapping and changing my mind. I’d look at one runner going past and what they had on, then someone would go past with something else on and I’d change my mind again. It was the worst dilemma ever 😂 Luckily I chose well. I stayed warm enough but not too hot 😮💨
I’ve no idea how I managed to get any pace going on some of those sections. Even when I look at the video it doesn’t look real 😱 I’d rather not have another run like that though, even if the time did surprise me 😀
Congratulations on a monster effort, especially in those conditions, and a wonderful result! That's got to give you a lot of confidence going forward with the rest of your training. Sometimes it's hard to know if it's even working, but you're doing something right and it's nice to see it paying off. Way to go!
Thanks Eddie, I was worried when I started this training that I needed to be realistic for running anywhere near my old speed because it’s been so long since I raced. But every time I test myself I’m really surprised with how it’s all going. Still not at my best but, not far out …..and still 10 whole weeks of training to go 😊
Thanks Chloe. Winter races are always a gamble, you never know till the day what the weather will throw at you. Least the rain mostly held off 😀 Looking forward to hearing what you have planned next 😊
Thanks Tom. 3:30 was always going to be the comfortable goal (as long as the injuries stayed away). I’m really wondering what I can do with another 10 weeks of training 🤔
Thank you 😊 There were lots of regular runners out on their Sunday run so it seems very popular. If it was more local I’d probably enjoy some training runs there and maybe explore some of the trails too 😀
I really like the opening B roll shots at the start of your vids. That wind looked and sounded awful. Well do e on getting it done. You can definitely see your fitness improving. 💪
Thanks Ian, I crossed the line with a new V02 max which is only now 1 away from my highest from 2 or 3 years ago. The plan is another 10 weeks so maybe I’m underselling myself with 3:30. But I can re-evaluate that nearer the day 😀
Excellent run for such trying conditions. You did very well with your pace per mile especially considering how difficult it can be to pace your run accurately in a headwind and rain.
Thanks Donald. It was so hard to judge what the next mile pace would be because there was up to 30s per mile difference due to the conditions. All I could do was keep the effort there and just hope once it evened out I wouldn’t lose too much time. I do have overall pace on my watch screen and was working sub 7’s but lost too much on the 2nd lap to keep it there 😊
That was a tough one Rachel. I'm glad that wasn't me out there. An excellent time in those conditions. You must have been up there close to the first lady? As you said, you definitely have got some training benefit out of that! Everything seems to be going well at the moment. Don't overdo it. Excellent video as always, glad you left the wind noise in there, it added to the atmosphere of the race. Take care.
I couldn’t really ask for a better start to all my training and progress. I really thought I’d lost way too much speed with 2 years off racing and having injuries but it’s come back so fast. I think I was about 12th overall (out of 150) and 4th lady. I saw the first 3 ladies in front, most of the way round but never caught them. Hope you’re feeling a little more rested and managed to get back out on the trails? Thanks for watching Peter 😊
@@racheld1844 you're welcome, just started my own training for the Edinburgh marathon at the end of May so always find it interesting to see other people's journeys. Stay well and injury free!
I think anyone running on that course yesterday deserves 2 medals! I think the only thing that could have made it harder would have been for the heavens to open ☔️ Well done on your run too! 😀 Do you have any other races planned?
Certainly was windy!! Long story - but I started running at 43 a year ago. Went from couch to London Marathon last year and am currently training for Brighton Marathon. I’m very slow but loving every minute. Really enjoying your videos and wishing you all the very best for the Shakespeare Marathon! Perhaps I’ll sign up for that next year!
@@andrewgoldsby - great to hear you’ve caught the running bug. It’s very difficult to shift once it’s bitten 😀 Good luck with your Brighton Marathon. Hope all you’re training goes well 😊
A few years back I did several races on a disused airfield and the contrast between a calm and windy day was huge. I may do their 1/2 next month although I wish there was a 20 option as that’s really what I’d like as a race before Stratford 😊
Now that Is a very good 10 mile time. Easily beats my 1-12-14 at Harlow in 2017. 👏👏. Nice one Rach. One weather condition I loathe is the wind, and we had plenty yesterday at the club xc 😝. Bet the wind whipped across that stretch of open water at Draycote. I wonder how fast you would have been with out the wind?
Hi Tony, how did your xc race go? I did a few league races when I was about 20 but I’ve not been part of a club since. 10 mile is a strange distance that you don’t see very often so knowing a good time is a bit harder to gauge. I’m just really pleased with the pace and like you say - what would it have been without the wind 🤔 😀
Rachel it was very, very hilly and windy. 2 laps with elevation of 637ft over the 5.5 mile course. My first ever club run and it was a tough one. Be nice to do it again in 2023 when I am in better nick than I am now. One runner succumbed to hypothermia believe it or not, due to lack of pre-race fueling!!
@@Tonyr2 - I’m sure you did great for your team. That course sounds pretty tough. Most hills I encounter I’m allowed to walk up because I probably have another 30 miles to go 😂
The ultra runners mantra "walk the hills and run the flats and down hills" sound advice for an ultra. Apparently I came in 136th place out of a field of 250 odd so given my injury niggles and the fact I ran a 21-13 parkrun the day before I am happy with that. Mid week league starts in May, look forward to that.
@@Tonyr2 Comfortably in the middle of the pack and not fully rested/injury free is a great position to be placed. I did one league race and came last because all the ladies were phenomenal (think it was my first race ever and they just needed someone to fill the team) I was a runner but nothing like their standard. There is a summer league here that you can enter as a club team or individually. I’ve done a few of those races over the last 10 years but I think I’ll be spending this summer on a few different activities 😀
Thanks Matt - I often doubt myself, not so much on ability but just getting out to there on my own. But I don’t back down because I know it will work out…. and that’s where the sense of adventure comes from 😊
Hi Rachel well done on a wet and windy day ,👌
Thanks Roy. Looks like its not going to be much better this week either 🌧
Now those were some brutal winds Rachel! Didnt stop you putting down a some blistering pace. Well done Rach! 😎🤘🏻
If only it was a one way race with the wind behind 😂 but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. It just better be calm on marathon day 🤞
THANKS YOU FOR SHARING THIS Video
Thanks for watching 😀

wow, fantastic time! you're fast!
Thank you. I surprised myself with how fast I ran 😀
Omg 😳 that looked crazy hard well done great steady positive miles there Rachel. That wind there is terrible soo open. Great times well done 👍

Brillant race, i loved watching the video, hard British weather, but you've done a great job, congrats 👍
Thanks Ali, I think the sailers that day were in their element, not so for us 😀 It sure was a test of endurance 😊
That looked a tough one especially into the wind!! Well done though, that’s a great time!
I think the head band was the deciding factor to me being able to battle on 🥰
Nice. Well done and what a struggle in the wind. You did well.
Thanks Alan. It was great when it was behind me, not so much on the other bits 😀
Brilliant run into that wind!! Well done!
Thanks Michael, I just hope Stratford isn’t anything like that 😱
Well done Rachel! I was only out for a short run yesterday and got blown everywhere and soaked 💦💦💦
Thanks Donato. I was expecting it to be torrential but it held off for long enough. Definitely character building 😂
@@racheld1844 well done!
Well done Rachel. You'll easily break a 3:30 marathon judging by how well your training is going 😁
Thanks Tom. 3:30 was always going to be the comfortable goal (as long as the injuries stayed away). I’m really wondering what I can do with another 10 weeks of training 🤔
I ran there for the first time with a friend last week, so was good to watch this. Brilliant pace you run at btw.

Thanks Stuart. Least I’m getting good resistance training in atm 😀
Great performance I heard it was very windy at Draycote none the less great time
