Fuel Altereds Burning Nitro At Texas Motorplex (Qualifying Highlights and Eliminations)

- There's nothing crazier than Fuel Altereds - nitro burning, short wheelbase drag racing machines with too much horsepower! They joined Funny Car Chaos at Texas Motorplex for Nitro Madness, a huge event with 18 teams turning up. Thankfully we saw no crashes, accidents or fires (except for one giving the wall a rub), but plenty of wild runs! If you like to drag race on nitro, the NHRA might have the Top Fuel dragster and Funny Cars, but the Fuel Altereds are something you really should see!
Love the view from behind. You really get to see how squirrelly these things are. What a handful to drive. And these cars have a longer wheelbase and more aero than the original 1960’s - 70’s cars!
They move around a bunch - Johnny West's run was wild at the top end.
Wild rides... They want to "swap ends" constantly!

I remember Johnnie West from Tucson Dragway back in the 70's always a tough competitor!
WORMKILLER DAN = l do remember JONNIE WEST = HE WAS GOOD RACER
West was a real innovator. In the 1980's he did his burn outs on alcohol and then switched over to nitro after backing up and just before staging. He also was a defense contractor for various branches of the armed forces. Had a brother Jim i believe who also ran a funny car for a few seasons in the 80's.

Fuel Altered is the most awesome nitro class. The only nitro class for anyone anywhere close to a "low bucker." The only fuel class that is nostalgia without having to say it is. Race car without a class as far as NHRA seems to be concerned. Kind of occupies a spot akin to what match race funny cars did in decades past. Actually , small tracks off the beaten path still book in crowd pleasers. Seen some really good pro mod/ Top Sportsman and nostalgia fuelers and fuel altereds at Boise in years past. Mostly like 4/5ths scale '55 Chevys and what not. Even remember a couple of nostalgia funny car teams with altered bodies stuffed in their trailers.
A guy in my town just bought a car that looks like these ones. He said the name of the guy who used to drive it, sounded familiar but I can remember it now. It is red and has a 440 Mopar based stroker.
Probably a Comp Eliminator Altered.

Jim Jones in the Texas Tremor blown alcohol altered is giving the nitro boys the business!! @ 5:03 he had a pretty dicey situation with the throttle hanging wide open at the end of the run. Back to back 3.81s and a 3.76 is damn impressive!

Are all of these cars on nitro? Because some of them sound like they're on alcohol.
I believe the association allows nitro and alcohol, or any mixture of the two. Some are running in the 80-90% zone, while others might have just a little in the mix, and others again are solely on alcohol.

A lot of insurers do not want to write policy's on 1/4 mile F/A's.
That reminds me when it was on the Wide World of Sports it was outlawed because it's too dangerous Motor Racing is dangerous NASCAR Formula 1 front tires for skinny and drivers were fat the death sport actually this has nothing compared to that although I'd like to use some Modern aerodynamics like front tire covers not completely and close all those a cut the air and little control at 2 fast the nose are a specified and indifferent the front spoiler is so outdated that is 1960s Indianapolis type of front spoiler you can't do better nostalgic sake need a grill off an old Sprint car type that doesn't mean you have to have it open just has to look like it and I haven't mentioned nothing about canards on front end at all or the rest of the design do you really know how to keep a car sticking to the ground every car is different and different speeds different talents my baby F40 the lawbreaker why everything was still legal I have pride in that the engineer's should have more Pride than I have 288 GTO got something special back in the day in my baby the F40 was something special if you don't know it Enzo didn't like turbos otherwise you guys need to start looking at canards on front wheel covers front and nose design not that antique Formula 1 Indy car spoiler it doesn't work I seen different headers and I know the difference on those already Elijah stupid cuz nards on some of the bodies in front of the rear tires to help plant if you're that far into it take the next step keep it wild the computer doesn't know difference between fast and quick yeah 10 9 Harley-Davidson I know what quick is is a pain in the ass to drive it on the road sometimes otherwise I know aerodynamics to it won't help you on the quick part it will help you on top speed and stability we all race for fun we do not want to see anybody ever get hurt Racers and Spectators alike
