      And make no mistake, 4 wide racing is just stupid! Who can watch all 4 cars in 3.7 seconds? It reminds me of the WWE of motorsports, a real circuslike atmosphere. And coming in 3rd or 4th in a drag race is just WRONG!. I can recall seeing 3 and 4 wide racing in the Sixties, but those were not legit races like today. Mostly a one off deal put on by the track promoter for show.

      Its all about there sponsorship. Without Toyota, Dodge, Chevrolet ect most teams couldn't race💰💰. Its a necessary thing. True not a dam thing on any of them remotely resembles any brand of car. • @tedh.8356
      @tedh.8356 3 года назад +1

      @@hagerz This is what is killing Racing, we lost the enthusiasts doing it on there own. Teams can race without the major sponsors, they did in the 40's 50's 60's 70's, true it won't be the same performance levels but there would be more racers like it was in the past, I know I raced in the 70's 80's and 90's. What you haven't seen in the showrooms as you described you won't see and that has nothing to do with sponsors who imply that the race car involves their product when it doesn't. I won't waste time debating the issue but in the past race cars represented the brand by using the brands components and too many times that is not the case today, as stated earlier there is NOTHING on that car from Toyota.

      The nitro flames actually do have a thrust effect. The NHRA had to ban the teams from pointing the exhaust further back.

    I am not sure how I am going to find this data, but i am certain that Gary Scelzi went 2.99 seconds in a 1/8th back when he raced in top fuel (continued on to run a 4.477 1/4 mile, loosing one cylinder just after half track). Does anyone recall this?

      Top Fuel dragsters definitely go 2s in the eighth mile. This was a Funny Car Chaos record.

      Funny Car Chaos is an eighth mile series. NHRA is still 1000 feet.

      @@LivingNitro Thank you for clearing that up for us. With so many drag racing events being one eighth mile now days, so few being quarter mile (yes I know, it's 1000 feet, has been for quite a few years) other than NHRA we're surprised to see the PRO's doing 1/8th mile blasts. Appreciate the clarification.

    It's been awhile since I watched drag racing, but I see here the car still has the spill plates but isn't running a spoiler, or at least not much of one. Is this something recent or is it just because it's 1/8 mile ? I remember watching Del and his dad at OCIR back in the 70's. Good times.
