My name is Eileen and I keep telling people that dexys midnight runners had better songs than come on Eileen. They were bloody brilliant!!!.
A lot better than that Bukkake gang when they ran out of juice? What a band of submissives. What it takes.
Oh Geno.
You are absolutely right. The early days, 1980 had such a big, full sound with the brilliant horn section!
I bet Eileen paid a few bills
Kevin Rowland is/was so underrated. Not only is he an incredible vocalist, but he’s a storyteller as well. For me, his performances have the gravitational force of a black hole, they just envelop you and take you to another parallel. You just get lost in the sound of Dexys and KR.
didn´t know this one. recorded on my 18th birthday! I love love love the sound of their first album since it came out. and john peel. real legend. he even answered a request of mine with a postcard.
One of the most underrated bands of the 80s.
Sounds as fresh as it was performed over 40 years ago.
18 year old then and my God music heaven.
always coming back to this, epic session.
John Peel, legend. Loved the sound of Dexy's back in those days.
Anyone who doubts it, look at the shite that passes for music these days. We miss you, John.
Underrated ? Who are you trying to Kid? Dexys are amazing!!!
Whew! That was great! My only exposure to Dexy's Midnight Runners was Come on Eileen. I'm so happy to discover this band.
Geno Put them on the road to stardom...Great sound , great band..
Pleased for you bro .... Have a listen to the new stuff also ;) It wont disappoint.
@@shaunspillane2105 totally agree @Shaun
Having recently told my teenage daughter not to follow fashion and be individual, it was a shock to remember I used to completely follow Dexy's dress code as in this picture. I remember hearing them first on John Peel's show when I was 16 and got my mum to knit me one of those hats! If you haven't yet, you MUST listen to Dance Stance, absolutely brilliant.
Oswald Baileys in Birmingham sold them hats ,only a couple of quid too !
That was a style, not a fashion though.
Being a mod, say, is a style thing. Having the same lip fillers as everyone else is a fashion.
John Peel lives!!! Damn, he took out, the GOLD from all music from UK! Wow! Much love from Western Greece!
Not just the UK, the World and if he'd found music elsewhere in the universe he'd have played the best of that too!
He did, but he also introduced his audience to foreign groups such as The Ramones, Pere Ubu, Dead Kennedys, The Cramps and many, many more.
wot u talking about ?
@@garymcgill I meant he found and revealed to music lovers, all treasures from the pop and rock scene...
What you say!! RAW real with true feeling as it was 😎. Thank god I was part of this exciting & life changing times 🙏👌
What a great time for music...
fantastic band - thanks for sharing
Pure Gold.
What an energetic live performance ! Shame that most people remember them because of "Come on Eileen" .Thanks for upload
Perfect for the approaching good year of music, RIP John Peel
Another great piece of Music

Immense. Thanks for posting.
Pure GOLD
A brilliant live band!
Brilliant the best
Big Jimmy! . . . ❤️
'right lads, I got a job lot of woollen hats and don't know what to do with them'
Haha. Actually laughed out loud
wear em !
This burns
pure joy
Good job peel was switched on to up and coming bands or we would have nothings like this to look back on ..the man was a genius
Great music and a pic of the band looking pissed off in 70s Brum city centre.
If you ever went there in the 70s you'd understand why. Run down and polluted, and over run by beggars and tramps. Then there was the constant threat of IRA bombers in the city centre as well.
It was obviously on a Sunday. Whole place shut down and miserable.
Holy God!
WOW....Love this so much.
Best sound ever
great stuff - cheers
music is you in what you are.

Saw them in NYC, non stop energy
Nottingham UK
Saw them about 3 weeks before this session was recorded, 21 February 1980, at a small sweaty club called Demelza's in Penzance with about 30 other people on the Dance Stance tour. Genuinely mind-blowing! ... especially for a punk like me!
The lads gid up oua dat
I like this session - one can hear a bit more bass.
Blissssssss !!

love that look. had a bizarre chat about the death of the donkey jacket in a york boozer last week. bring em back!
@@TheDocRitchie ha ha had the same conversation on a Ska/Skin Facebook page about Donkey jackets, apparently Sports Direct have started selling them 🤔🤔😁
Great piece of info thanks.
As for donkey jackets, have a look at the price of the originals on ebay.... Unbelievable
@@TheDocRitchie lots of skins still were them
Willie Mitchell!!!
Aren't they brilliant, gx
Marvellous post. And, there is no comma in "Dexys".
There was a comma at the time of this session, as there was on Dance Stance
@@Vibracobra23_Original You are absolutely correct. However, I recall decades ago being confused - was it "Dexy's", was it "Dexys" - and reading somewhere from a band member (Kevin R?) that there is no apostrophe, and the band is "Dexys" MR. And, then you find this thread to really fry the brain! :P www.discogs.com/forum/thread/185835 . Personally, I prefer the possessive apostrophe as in in "Dexy's" Midnight Runners meaning they are runners arising from dexedrine. Whatever - it's fabulous music. Enjoy! :)
@@LaughingStock_ - oh my word, Rees-Mogg is on line. For those not conversant with British Politics this chap is stuck on the century before last and is a pedant for punctuation. Fortunately sessions like Dexy's/Dexys (I'll see how I wrote it on my 1980 gig list) takes me away from the current mess/swerve towards the right and nationalism. Kevin will be on my side! Thanks for putting this music up on RUclips, it just gets better.
Spotted two punctuation mistakes in my reply.....
@@LaughingStock_ ha, owned mate
is that the Westway on the background?
It’s Birmingham city centre
tough gong
Peerless
The Untouchables were definitely influenced by this band.
"culturally unsound" hahahhahaaa. oh that is priceless!
