Good vid boys! Remember to lube your filter O ring before reassembly. You'll learn later in life that lubrication is the key to success 😉

Where can I get that oil filter?

    Oil filter in backwards

Beware the oil filter is installed wrong. It's backward. The spring goes in the front and the rubber over the back.

For this version of the FourTrax, this is the correct way of installing the filter. There are two filters available for the 420, one small and one large. It depends on what version of the FourTrax 420 you have. There are multiple factors that designate what filter you need... electronic power steering, 2-Wheel Drive, 4-Wheel Drive, Electronic Shifting, etc. You have to do your research before purchasing. I have a 2009 420 4WD with Electronic Power Steering, and Electronic Shifting. My version takes the larger oil filter (K&N-114 or Honda 15412-HP7-A01). With the larger version of the filter, the rubber side of the filter goes inwards towards the motor and the pressure spring is on the outside between the filter and the outer cover. Do your research, even the Honda manuals all default to the smaller filter.

@@Bweetza , you're correct and thank you for clarifying in detail. That'll help others just starting out. I had to return my first filter because the Honda dealership gave me the wrong one (the smaller one). I also have the 2010 Rancher 420 with power steering and electronic shifting and the spring goes up against the cap like these guys showed. If you try to put the spring in first, it won't go on no matter how hard you push...don't ask me how I know!
