Starting, growing and running an agency really sucks. It’s not pretty, and if someone selling a course tries to convince you otherwise, run for the hills.
The truth is that running an agency requires you to face some pretty brutal challenges and realities. They’re not much fun to overcome and face, but if you are willing to give it a go and make it work, the rewards genuinely are worth it.
I recorded a video on this because the market needs to know the damn truth.
It’s hard.
It sucks.
You won’t have much fun for the first few years.
But, if you stick at it and keep going, the fruits of your labour will bloom and feed you forever.

Fully agree with you on the point of learning the systems first, heard a tale or two of media buyers leaving, then agency owners being left in the dark without the skills to support their clients.

So true. Building an agency if so hard and it does take years. Still going after 13 years. Not growing because we don't want to! That's not strange. The more you grow and make the more you have to work. We don't want to work so hard now just make a reasonable salary. We do. We love it. We work and have freedom. Good luck if you are starting out but be prepared for the tuff stuff! 😊

Well that was ....dark. Not really, it was honest. Funny how the 997 crowd never mentions churn, broken SMBs, employee turnover, etc. I am launching a very niche agency right now and also working at an agency were I am the senior SEO person - having achieved peak seniority in 24 months. As a reward I am given all the highest demand porcupine clients. Fortunately for all concerned I can move the needle but the returns ultimately diminish with prolonged success, a tidbit seldom covered in the sales pitch. Oh look now you have me doing it...
