I do think Varric is going to die, but I don't think Solas will outright murder him. If so, then he would have gone for Varric directly and not Bianca.
I think that either Rook's meddling causes Varric to be killed accidentially (or wounded) or that the Evanuris will murder Varric as they imprison Solas.

He certainly doesn't want to kill Varric, but maybe Varric forced his hand, or maybe it was the eleven gods we saw at the end...

@@TKGames54 Solas might even state that it was better he died than to suffer what will become of the world not that he will be forced to use a more devastating method of bringing down the Veil, given the ritual that was disrupted had precautions in place to minimise the damage.

@@TKGames54 At the point where this happens, the statues are falling all around him, the prison holding Ghilanain and Elgar'nan is loosing cohesion, and his entire ritual is falling apart. He is too busy to contain that to murder Varric.
I do think that there is a high chance of Varric dying, but Solas outright killing him is less likely.
There is also the possibility of Varric getting trapped in the fade prison with Solas.
I could be wrong, but what with all that is going on at that moment "killing the dwarf" seems low on the priority list.

A good point, though it could be an editing trick, or maybe it's the elven gods that kill Varric 🤔

@@TKGames54 Oh, it's definitely an editing trick to keep us in suspense. In truth everything is on the table, and I can't wait to see what happens.

I would consider a 'Varric can die' more likely than a 'he is 100% scripted to die'. Solas could have one-shotted Varric if he wanted to, yet opted for Bianca. Without the crossbow, Varric moves from a companion role to an advisor role, similar to what Liliana/Cullen/Josephine had in DA:I. He has been a companion for two major figures in the history of Thedas, he deserves a break.

I think Solas killing Varric _would_ make for a very heartfelt opening. A steep lowpoint from which we, Rook and the companions, need to claw our ways back up to glory and saving Thedas. It would _definitely_ work to give us a feeling of the stakes being high very early on. Especially those of us who have grown to love Varric in the previous two games.
It's great drama. But I honestly don't want it to happen. I'm biased of course, because I absolutely adore Varric as a character. I'd love for him to _almost_ die. And from there on out he should find himself in more of an advisory role like Leliana, Cullen and Joséphine in *Inquisition.* He has matured quite a bit from his beginnings in DA2 to the end of Inquisition plus Trespasser. And I think a mentor role where he is visibly weakened, maybe on crutches, in a creaky old-timey wheelchair, poisoned by obscure and ancient veil magic, I don't know, would be a fantastic part for Varric and his amazing voice actor Brian Bloom. That's what I wish for :)

I kinda think he might die, but I don't think Solas will be the one to do it if he does. My money is way more on either Elgar'nan or Ghilan'nain being the ones to do it if for no other reason than spiting Rook, potentially the Inquisitor, and definitely Solas. Considering Elgar'nan's reputation in lore for being a spiteful a-hole, my money is on him being the one to do it, if either of them. However, considering that they've made Varric the "official" narrator/writer of the events of the games, he might have a little bit more plot armor than that. Then again, Duncan was the original narrator of Origins and we all know what happened to him within the first few hours. There is a part of me wishing that they'd retire him, though. I love having continuity characters and Brian Bloom's voice acting is always a treat, but Varric being involved in everything for a third straight game as a main character is getting a little old at this point. I'd like to see him moved out for new characters to take the helm.

It's difficult but completely agree with this, in fact we knew Varric longer than Duncan, so it'd hit so much harder 😬

    You look different Tim.
Since my comments usually consist of doom and gloom, I'll shake things up. I highly doubt they'll kill off Varric. He's literally the narrator of the last two games and it's most likely that the records of the 'Dragon Age' are more of less written by him. Plus, as much as Solas would 'do anything' to complete his task, it's doubtful he would personally want to kill a friend - out of sight, out of mind - but by his own hand (er, magic), probably not. If Solas was going to kill Varric, he would have done so immediately, and not simply destroy Bianca. Sure, a heavy blow to Varric, but Bianca has been repaired and upgraded in the past, she can be again. My bet is on he will either be severely injured and fall into a mentor/advisor role for the rest of the game, or will be captured by the Elvanuris like Solas most likely is and, since he's magic and the Dreadwolf, Solas is able to contact us while Varric is not. If he is indeed captured, Varric will likely be rescued as a major plot point mid-3/4 way through the game or alongside Solas near the ending. (Worse case, Solas may sacrifice himself to uphold the Veil, and with it, bestow a bit of healing to Varric to save him).

My guess is Varric lost his Bianca so he can't fight, He'll get new weapon ... but at the end of the game.
Developers decided to give him some rest ( retirement) temporary.

I myself think Varric might die at a chance of 70% So yeah not 100% sure but fairly sure.
But I think it will not be Solas. The gameplay reveal was cut a lot at the ending. You see Solas holding up the statue with magic and he still has his dagger then.
But next you see Rook and Garding, who magically ran around the ritual site almost at the stairs.
Then you see Solas again with tears on his face turned towards the bottom of the stairs where you can see a tiny green glimmer (Fade magic). He turns around where the evanuris are showing through a teir in the veil.
I think they reached out to kill Solas, but Varric threw himself in garms way getting hit instead being killed.
There is also a screenshot from Harding completly brused and tearful.
Yeah I have a feeling there will be no more stories from him.

I want Varric to die just so I don't have to hear from him anymore. Didn't like him in DA2, liked him a little in DA:I because he chilled out a alot, and in DA:V he's back to being an arrogant annoyance again. BioWare might kill him off just to say they were dark, gritty, or edgy, but I doubt Solas will be the one to do it. Varric will probably defend Solas from the evanuris and get killed by them.
