Nice I've been distilling my water for around 10 years now I don't even bother adding the trace minerals I figure we should be getting those though diet from plants as there's a difference between organic and inorganic minerals the plants make them bioavailable for us it's like thinking you can suck on a rusty nail and get your iron they aren't bioavailable
Isn't it true that distilled water actually pulls minerals from your body? I remember I tried drinking distilled water for a few months, and I noticed I was getting heart palpitations. Seemed like some sort of electrolyte deficiency
@@LukeSly91 pure water cleans the body of all the garbage that would otherwise cause all kinds of disease. We need organic minerals from plants.
@@LukeSly91It does leach minerals, but only inorganic minerals that the body can’t use or assimilate. It’s impossible for distilled (pure) water to leach organic minerals due to the magnetic charge. It’s an on purpose half truth
Which brand of distiller do you use?
I use H2O labs they have lots to choose from
I have used this distiller for the last three years. It works great. I can't imagine being without it. Love the waters taste and how smooth it is.
Some of the most common trace contaminants and chemicals in tap water include PCBs, pharmaceuticals, lead, aluminum, bromate, rust, fluoride, chlorine, chloramines, and many many more. This water distiller get's rid of them all! : amzn.to/3woRn6T (Makes A Great Gift!)
I like how you measured the total energy consumption.
We’ve had ours for about three years now and run it three times a day. We store the water in half gallon mason jars in the refrigerator. We do get a build up on the coils in the head because the fan pulls dust particles to it. My husband takes the head apart and blows the coils with a compressor. Thanks for the info on the trace mineral drops.
No problem! My coils and fan are dusty on the outside as well. So far there hasn't been any issues other than appearance if you look closely. I may decide to give it a cleaning now that you mention it. Cheers!
U can get more than 3 gallons a day.
@@plantabundanceHow do you clean the inside of the coil heads so I’m not drinking residual factory rust?
how do i remove th filter from the spout
@@nathanmoore7115you can take it apart! There’s only 3 screws- pull the fan off and the coils off and clean :)
I'm also a big fan of distilled water, I have 5 different models of water distillers, including this one. I'll tell you another great way to clean distillers using vinegar. Fill the boiling pot with vinegar, enough to cover the bottom or however high the scale build up is. Now, with the top off, plug in the distiller so it heats the vinegar, you don't need to bring it to a boil but allow the vinegar to heat to the point where the vinegar is too hot to touch, similar to the temperature of hot water from the faucet. Now cover the distiller and let it sit for about 30 minutes. At this point, use a paper towel if necessary to remove any remaining mineral build up. When you heat the vinegar it speeds up the chemical reaction and will allow the vinegar to remove the build up much faster.
This is a GREAT machine at its price point. I bought this same model about 10yrs ago and have had ZERO problems. I typically unplug it so the temp switch doesn't trip when it has about 2 cups left in the chamber so all the water doesn't evaporate which prevents calcium and heavy deposit build up which makes for pretty much zero cleanup other than a quick rinse.
That's a great tip. Thanks.
This is smart. I'm gonna buy 1 and put a shut off timer on it.
Are distilling the water with vinegar in it????
@@cece3194 no vinegar just water
How do you know when there is only two cups left in it ? Is it rough guess work ?
I bought this distiller after watching your video about it awhile back. And the clean with the citric acid was a godsend - I'm sometimes use ascorbic acid as well. Love that I can also find the charcoal filters to reorder here in Canada. I appreciate this detailed video and your kind willingness to share such great products with us, Dan. Cheers. #trustandthrive
Thank you kindly! I'm glad it's working out for you.
I just placed an order. Thank you for your video .
Regular white vinegar works. I use it all the time. Just pour enough to cover the gunk at the bottom and let it shit for an hour or two.
Well put together video you detailed very well. I will see if I can purchase in the UK.
Thank you for sharing.
Be well and be safe.
Peace
Thanks, you too!
They need a model that mates with a dehumidifier for long run times, and potentially an awesome heater
thank you so very much dear Sir, i'm very grateful never knew this information...with the way the world is today too...thank you for the trace mineral product too. VERY grateful God bless you.
Perfect timing! I have been trying to figure out if I should get a Berkey, now I can distill my water instead. 🥰
thanks, is it safe to use without the charcoal packet? I don't like it, and it adds black spots to my water.
Much easier to not allow scale to form on the bottom. Stop distilling when 3/4 of water distilled, leaving a cup or 2 on the bottom.
Great review. Thank you
ThankYou ❤
My understanding, one doesn't need to add minerals 🙏👏👏👏🤷♀️
That's right
Yes you need to add minerals
Do you need to add minerals back in
@@garytallent3145 I drink only distilled water. I sometimes add minerals, especially to my water bottle that I use as I exercise. I do a mixture of salt, magnesium and potassium. But adding a few grains of a good salt, like Redmond real salt, to your glass would do the trick.
I've had this same machine for about 4 or 5 years. I LOVE it! Mind didn't come with a glass piece for the carbon filter. My gasket makes it a bit challenging to take the top off. I didn't realize that you can order replacement parts! So thank you! Also, I always wonder about how much it costs to make a gallon of distilled water; you answered that question! Thanks so much. I highly recommend this machine!
Where did you order the replacement gasket? Likely directly from the manufacturer. I'll check.
Mine didn’t come
with the glass piece either.
Can you order the glass piece?
I found the glass piece. It’s actually ceramic.
I found the ceramic part inside.
An average 500ml bottle of water is £1 / £1.50 in the UK. So that is a huge saving 🤔
You can buy a 2-litre bottle for 35p from a large supermarket. Is the water distilled? Probably not, but neither is the water in your 500-ml bottle.
@@chesshooligan1282 2 litre Spring water in PTE for 35p used to be 17p a few month back from Aldi. Joke the price of it now 35p, doubled almost overnight. Maybe not as cheap to distill right now but no plastic leeching into it and it's much purer to distill then add minerals.
Thank you!
Thank you
We have used a water distiller for over 20 years, stainless one, always use trace mineral drops too. We have watched all the other purifiers that come on the market, including Berkey’s which it seems everyone was using. Now a number of smart folks we know are going right back to their home distillers. We agree with you - glad this company is a good one like the one we use! Honesty and customer service and USA made with a company that has been around for a long time means so much!! PS. I criticize nobody who chooses a Berkey. I have many friends who absolutely love theirs and I know they do a good job. ❤️
What is the difference between a distiller and a Berkey? Thanks!
YOu dont need to add minerals. You get minerals from food. You want pure h2o as water. Been on distilled since 2011 and all I do is filter it before it heads to the distiller to get any VOC's out. Healthier than ever
We just invested in a distiller! I found your video through searching for water distillation. I am very pleased to hear you have had this machine for many years with little wear and tear. Helps me to know we made a good choice and will get a lot of use out of it. 🤩 Take care snd thanks for sharing this video. 💋
Excellent review! I was wondering about the cost per gallon, but you nailed it!! I bought one right after I watched your video. I haven’t been able to find distilled water in any of the stores here in AZ for the past 2 months! I was in New Mexico for work a month ago, and no distilled water there either. Looking forward to watching your other videos on planting, greenhouses, etc. Thanks again and God Bless you and your family.
Had the same distiller for a long time! It’s a champ!
Does your water come out cool like mine does? My old one came out hot.
Distillation is the only way to get the sodium fluoride and other crap out of your drinking water.
So, you think that drinking distilled water is the way to go? Okay... Yes, it is a lot healthier for your body. I will say your body is not going to handle ANY water with impurities in it after getting use to perfect water. There are things in rivers, wells, ponds you should not (should) drink. But guess what? I have been drinking these waters since I could walk and I very, very rarely get sick. True story: my brother-in-law who has never been exposed to impure water once drank out of a cow pond with me. You could see the critters in the water swimming around like seahorses. He ended up in the hospital a few months later with dysentery and required a surgery. Me? Nothing, and I drank a hefty amount more than he did.
I am not advocating to drink unhealthy water. What I am saying is the body develops immunities. Kind of the reason why I was given a full anthrax series while I was in the military. In the event there was an attack using anthrax, it would have a lot less effect on those that developed immunities for it.
All said, I drink straight from the well, the rivers etc. to this day. Of course, I have gotten sick before drinking water down in Mexico, but crapped diarrhea once and I was good to go and drank some more.
I travel abroad quite frequently especially Asia but also a few places in south America and many in EU. If all your body can handle is perfect water, you are setting yourself up for failure. You can always distill of course, or at least boil water. There are survival straws you can purchase online that last for thousands of thousands of gallons without changing the filter on them.
Long story short, distill water is great for you, but your immune system isn't going to develop the antibodies needed to fight off some of the bad stuff from within the waters. This is the reason I drink water from rivers, lakes etc. everywhere I go. Still here...
A doctor will agree but will tell you to drink distilled water because it is their job to do so. Just don't drink anything that isn't distilled because your weak body will suffer the consequences.
Not saying to be like survivalist Cody Lundin "Here where I live in Prescott" and walk everywhere you go barefoot... The right environment is going to call for boots no matter what... Something to think about.
This was an AWESOME video. Does your water come out cool like mine does? My last Megahome that stopped working, produced hot water. Thanks for your time. ❤
I read stainless was contraindicated for distilled water? How about you??
Will using a coffee maker work just using just water no coffee ?
Likely not. A coffee maker doesn't steam water, it boils it and forces that water onto the coffee grounds along with everything dissolved in the water. You get the same result by boiling a kettle as using a coffee maker
Can you store your distilled water in an empty gallon jug that was purchased with distilled water already in it?
Great content!! 😁Please can you let me know do you store the distilled water in the fridge straightaway? Thanks. Much appreciated!
This is a very good review.
I have ordered a water distiller for my humidifiers mostly. And mainly because I'm tired of buying it.
Seven years is certainly a testament to the longevity of a distiller. Thanks!!!
Thanks Buddy. Very timely for me, also.
I found this video after listening to Modern Wisdom, subject plastic phthalates. Really happy about the glass insert for the out pour. Will get one. Very nice video, no BS, no hype, just straightforward information. Thank you.
For rving how many watts does it draw?
I collect and save 2,300 gallons of rain water for use on my ranch. I use a "first-flush" system to sequester particulate matter. I add a pinch of Redmond Real Salt to each batch of distilled rain water, to refortify minerals and there is little to no boiler residue. My electric plan has free electricity at night. I use a cheap knock-off distiller ($70) and replace it when it quits (hasn't yet) so my distilled water is virtually free.
Btw, don't put too much faith in the auto shutoff. When I first bought mine people were reporting that some units were still heating long after all the water was gone, burning the bottom. Just about every phone has a timer app; set it for about 4-1/2 hours.
My only 'complaint' about this unit is the lid on the glass container. I would like to see a lid that seals the container after filling so you can just stick it in the fridge without absorbing any odors (it will). I have to pour it into another container that seals for storage. I suppose their marketing dept. thinks everyone will do this anyway, so people can start making another batch of water right away, (but you can't because you need to let the unit cool down.)
Mine take 6 hours to finish.
Thanks for the advice. I wonder if that's what the stuff on the bottom of the distiller after using it is. I already use filtered tap water. "burned" water
Use a pm detector to see how clean the water is
8:46 our bodies cant utilize the minerals in non-distilled water due to their chemical composition. Even if this wasnt the case, youd have to drink something like 60 gallons per day to reach the recommended daily intake of those minerals. Just eat a variety of healthy foods and i can assure u that you'll receive all the minerals u need. The one mineral thats rare is iodine but thankfully humans have added it to table salt for this reason!
Thanks for calculating the numbers and dollar values.
$0.35 for a gallon? That makes it about equivalent for me to buy RO water from a vending machine, although having a distiller at home is more convenient and gives the feeling that the water I get is no additional cost since I wouldn't normally think of the electricity involved to run it.
Or I guess another way to look at this, distilled water and RO water are still different, so this is a good option for distilled water. But if someone needs purified water and doesn't care which way to get it, then RO water vending machines could still be viable.
You really cannot take away the fact that you’re not drinking that sludge that stays at the bottom. Healthy healthy, healthy water is distilled.
It uses a standard power connector so it should be easy to get a replacement cord, like at a computer shop. Just get the same or heavier wire gauge.
A really good product excellently presented. All the best to you and your family.
Good video. I have this unit but a different brand name.
Thank you! Have a great weekend!
Does anyone have experience distilling well water? I currently use an RO system, but have iron bacteria, which leaves sludge. Wondering if I can distill the RO water? I current buy distilled water and add a pinch of Redmonds Himalayan salt and a pinch of aluminum free baking soda for electrolytes and feel great!
Hi there are diffrent kinds of baking soda ?
You can distill the RO water yea. WOuld work good.
Thank you for your review! I found it very useful! I am looking to buy a distiller and this seems like a good choice.
I use it to make cannabis oil.
Interesting I buy some cannabis oil. Are you using it for any specific health problems?
As a vac chamber?
I really want to get this. I was reading a lot of reviews and now I’m watching a lot of videos. One guy says he puts a quarter of a teaspoon of citric acid in the bottom. Every time he makes a batch and he doesn’t clean it but every week.
Excellent video, thank you so much.
Exact same product as H2O labs model 300 SS, same price $279..
I live in FL. Our tap water is bad and often times smells even when we turn the faucet in. In that case, can we use the water straight from our tap? Or would we need to buy water and distill that?
1 put water already filtered in.
2 used to buy distlled water plastic bottles. Easier, but prefer less plastic contaminants.
Bought the one w the glass jug.
Understand cost is close, electricity plus amortised cost of the distiller.
hi...using hot water add more impurity to the water so only use cold water...better water in gets better water out!....I only distill filtered water for a more quality water!
My water distiller got a huge buildup of minerals and I didn’t clean it out well enough so it bore a hole in the container over time!
I am going to be diligent cleaning my new container now! Great tips.
I have the bigger one and never looked back and apart from the money man the bottles of water not going in the landfill is a good thing to and I never let it run dry as well you don’t get all the gunk in the bottom that way. I just found out mine is the salt water one
Dear, I love the idea and the gadget you have presented & it's going to be a very good source of good quality pure/germs, bacteria and parasites free water. However when the costs are to be accurately considered are cleaning chemicals, trace metals drops and charcoal bags, replacement parts etc costs all need to be added on average monthly or annually basis! Would highly appreciate if you can help everyone with this approximate cost as per your grand experience in this area! Thanks again.
I didn't know there was such a thing. I wonder how much power it consumes if used with solar power. and the added benefit of heating the inside.
It runs at between 500 and 580 watts. Solar power or a generator will keep you brewing during a power outage. Cheers!
Shane C., exactly the same amount of power. The heating element does not know if the electricity is solar or e.g. nuclear generated.
It is recommended to add the minerals back to the water, otherwise it leaches them from your body. Same with reverse Osmosis water.
@@natalietom2299 not it doesn't, your body just needs trace elements. Those of us who live off pure rainwater look to get them from food anyway.
@@natalietom2299 I think this is nonsense. I haven't been able to find any empirical evidence or research papers to back up this claim.
I'm sure I'll get tired of buying distilled water for my humidifiers. May have to get one of those water distillers. It takes time but I'll do it.
Do you know what size portable battery charger I would need to run this distiller for off grid use ??
I have had a R/O unit every place I've lived for years, would this still be necessary? Does it remove fluoride?
I bought one of these and the water smelled and tasted like chlorine after distilling. I'm returning it and bought a 3 filter undersink water filtration system for half the price.
Some models will do alcohol too!!!..Just tweak the distillation temperature!!
I have a really dumb question: At home I have a countertop reverse osmosis... when I test the filtered water... the TDS reads 2 ppm... I used a water distiller I have that I bought a long time ago... just used tap water...and the final result for the distilled water was 24 ppm. I was shocked. so the next batch I filled the distiller with RO water that read 2ppm (but I didn't use the carbon packet) at the end it read 0ppm... and the unit had absolutely NO residue whatsoever...which leads me to my actual question. If I distill using RO water which has already been through carbon... do I need to use the carbon packet? I don't see why I would? Using the carbon packet is such a pain because I only distill a couple of gallons a week.. and I don't like to reuse a soaking wet carbon packet
I'm going to do Zero-water then distilled ... I think you are right the packs are not much use
Incorrect. Distilled wsterbis NOT the healthiest water. Thats an ignorant statement.
Is it even better at purifying and removing toxins than reverse omosis?
How does it compare to filtration? Ive heard good stuff about the brand crystal quest who provide 4 stage filtration. Is this close to distillation?
Filters are expensive and get dirty and work less and less. Filters never can make water as pure as distilled.
Switch to sea salt. Has all complete minerals.
I wish I didn’t throw the broken base away. Maybe it was repairable. It was stainless too.
I bought a generic brand water distiller off of eBay and the water tastes horrible
I have a Berkey already so would it be helpful to run it to the Berkey carbon filters first and then it would reduce the impact on the distiller?
No. I would just save the filter as a back-up source.
It would probably make the distiller easier to clean or you would have to clean it less often because you are reducing the buildup
What about reverse osmosis? Also what about the lack of minerals in the pure h20?
Two types of minerals. Inorganic and organic. Plants change minerals from inorganic to organic so our body can use them. The minerals in water are sand/dirt and salt and other bad things. We get minerals from living foods
Can you comment on the power usage of this model? Looks like it's rate just over 500 watts, and takes almost 6 hours to produce one gallon? Does that mean it consumes 3,000 Watts to produce one gallon of water?
Sour salt should work to clean it, too. Salt & lemon juice.
Awesome review, thank you!
What about reverse osmosis like bottled water services
So this is pure water, no salts, no chemicals? We have arsenic in our area. All of that is gone as well?
ALl gone. Use a charcoal filter to pre- filter though. Distillers have one downfall its that VOC's can boil and turn into a gas and get into your clean water bowl. So filter first
4 people who think that Plastics that are bpa-free are safe, I would beg to differ with you. The Plastics manufacturers have created other Plastics which are technically bpa-free but with contain compounds so chemically similar to pthalates did they continue to be known endocrine disruptors. Just don't use plastic.
Yup, BPA was replaced with BHA.
Would this help with hard water?
Where i live we have very soft water. There is not a lot of minerals in it
What exactly are the mineral drops you put in the water?
Bullcrap. We dont need to add minerals and besides he dont know what the hell is in that bottle. Pure h20 all the way
What do you think about this vs the Berkey for purified water?
Garbage. I had one. Distiller all the way. Now if electric was off then the Berkely is cool
if you put wine in it will it put out purified
you can buy the carbon in bulk it's much cheaper
Where
@@raloufen4292 pretty sure I purchased it though Amazon Isopure Water activated carbon charcoal I got 5lbs a life time supply
Cool product but i feel like you'd need at least 2 for daily uses. 1 gallon in 6 hours isnt enough for me
Five pounds of activated charcoal= $30 bucks from Amazon+1 tbs. wrapped
in coffee filter paper and all set for the life of your distiller also add 1 tsp citric
acid powder/flakes (food grade) to water, put distiller on timer (4 hrs.) mine shuts off
with about an inch of water left, wipe with clean rag or paper towel....done.
Would it hurt to put a lemon in the water to help keep the tank cleaner?
You'll need a ton of lemons in a long run 😄
I heard some people put citrus acid powder in the tank but really its easy to clean. You can use citric acid power or vinegar. Bring it up to boil for an hour then let it sit overnight. But I do that with a differet machine not this type. I unhook the cooling coils so it boils into the open air when I clean it
Fan is noisy, so my friend recommends running it on a timer at midnight. Or does anyone run it outside on a covered patio?
I'm mostly bummed out about all the plastic jugs I go through buying distilled water from the grocery store. Great info, thank you!
Did anyone have their distilled water change colour after some time? My friend kept his distilled water in the fridge in a glass bottle for 2-3 weeks and it became slightly yellow/brown. It has also formed some flakes that were floating in the water and that happens even sooner, like after a few days only. I've been drinking distilled water for over 10 years, had 3 different brands of distillers and never came across this problem, although I always drink it within 3-4 days. Does anyone have an idea what could be the cause, how to avoid/fix it? I would much appreciate any info on this. Thanks!
I think his other tools were not clean.
I think that water is being contaminated by something that was already in those glass bottles. You can check by getting a TDS (total dissolved solids) meter. (They're really cheap). Basically, the TDS meter shows everything that is "not water." If your distiller is working properly, the water in the collection container should read "0" (or very close to it).
The longest you should keep this is one week. That’s probably why this happened
@@maureenbennett809 how long till the distilled water goes bad?
@@silverfullbuster9177 keep it for a week the longest.😄
Do you use citric acid to clean it?
I've started using a timer plug set at 5 hours (from cold water), this leaves about an inch of water at the bottom and prevents the calcium/ dirt from baking on. Also, it prevents any aftertaste that may occur if the distiller is left to run its full cycle. Lastly, it prevents wear on the thermostat.
why do H2O Labs and Megahome water distillers look exactly the same?????
Are carbon pods optional? I am tired of these companies trying to milk you for years. Distillation is good enough.
I am in madison wisconsin. The tap water killed our machine. Vinager idea makes sense. Thankyou😅
How many watts does it use?
Who wrote you transcript baby snakes and horses I am pretty sure you didn't say that barbie and zombie killers and holes in the sky ?😢
A 500W solar panel turned on all day long would've distilled bunch of water for free
FYI, they say to plug into the unit, then plug into wall, if that matters.
what temp does it operate at.. its got one button. im assuming its just as hot as water boiling so it wouldnt work with alcohol. ect.
We have been using our MH for over 1 year and it works GREAT!
But kinda small for a family of 6.
