You make a good point, but it never would have made it to Frizell if it didn't get written! A lot other great artists, including Johnny Cash and The Band, have gone on to record well-known versions of this song as well. The story it tells is timeless.

That depends on your definition of music. Some people like his heavy stuff in addition to the country side, while others can't stand it. I'll give him credit for playing what he wants and giving fans their money's worth. On his last tour the guy played for 4 hours and then stuck around afterwards to make sure every fan who wanted a picture or autograph got one.

An awfully poor rendition of the original song, but most are. It is about as bad as the phony cowboy hat he wears. The words are changed up quite a bit from what Lefty sang, but what the hey. Call it wonderful if you have no real taste in country music, but it sure does not beat Lefty's version, nor come close to being as good.
