This is a Care Collaboration video about my very interesting and healthy Cattleya dowiaa aurea.
The #CareCollab this time is together with Ninja Orchids , Eds orchids and Matt by nature here on RUclips.
Today they will also upload #CareCollab videos about the very same type of orchid.
They will show you how they grow it and they will make a care guide about this particular orchid for you as well!
I will talk about its history, needs, blooming habit etc

Apparently the crosses of dowiana are not doing as well as the species itself. She may not do well mixed up with other genes 😏 But your dowiana species is doing amazingly!!! I also learned the hard way with Catts that without no new fresh roots, no repottings... Very good video, as yours always are, Karin. Have a great sunday !!!!
Thank you soi much! It warmes my heart 🥰💚 Yes, If you put it that way around...hmmm yes its perhaps not the spicies itself thats the problem its when its mixed up...as you saw the daniris had 65!! Percent of dowiana in it and is doing best of them all! A good old cross! I lost all my old dowianas they were mostly seedlings and one nfs one when I repotted them and messed with their roots. Due to black rot. Well have a lovely day its a sunny sunday here in Sweden, too hot to be outside almost! Talk to you soon 🌺🌺

Thank you Nina! I would LOVE to put it in s-h and leca but as all .y other dowiana hybrids did get a serback I don't dare. My other cattleas in s-h large ones as well as small ones are all doing great so what I was teying to get tbrougj in my video was that dowianas are fuzzy when disturbed! Have a movely sunny day!

Hi Karin, great orchid. I bought Aurea from the same seller so you will find out that most likely there are more than one plant in that pot. Mine had 3 seedlings in one pot. Definitely not complaining 😆
Hi nice to see you! 😀 Well,, 3 x times they are more likely to survive then! But as soon as the roots on the outside starts to branch out again - I will repot her and then we shall see 😅
Very informative video good job👍 (Miracle orchids have a dowiana in SH and it thrives and blooms🤔 so you never know… )
I have a hybrid with 49 % dowiana in it and the lip and fragrance is absolutely incredible - it’s Chia Lin ’New City’ from Lucke this march, and it just bloomed for me 🥰

Hi Lotta! Yes box I watched Miracle orchids video, too bad she seems to have seised uploading...😪 but she grow everything in s-h and I was ever so tempted to use it for this guy, then I got wise. Congrats on your blooming! I Beatrice it was georgeous to see such a lovely one in bloom!!! 🥰🥰🥰 My Lucke ones are doing great, now putting out a few sheaths so maybe...😀 Thanks for dropping by!

Hejsan! Min heter Topcom health - multifunctional humidifyer 1850,,inställbar fuktnivå. 6 liter grå köpt på jula för 2 år sedan för ca 900 kr. Den är jättebra och har både varm mist och kall och luftrenare/avjoniserare. Jag hade den för nära ena sidan av rummet vid fönstret först och hade satt den på max, hade 80% fukt när jag kom hem...och fick svartmögel längst med taket ovanför stora vardagsrumsfönstret... fick panik och köpte anti mögelmedel och vit färg. Flyttade in fuktaren en bit närmre takfläkten, satte den på 55%, och det går kanon nu! Finns säkert fler märken med liknande produkter. Bra att sätta den något högre än plantorna då ångan ju faller neråt! Lycka till och tack för uppmuntran! 😀😍🌺

Well its green so what's not to love with tvat dress! 🥰 My dowiana is not in active root growth so no repotting today. Grißräschener has got lovemy plants, I got a few old unboxings from last summer up on youtube so you can see the quality of them! Sooo great! It will take a few more years for my dowiana to bloom I guess but from now ln Im giving her a lot more light! Thanks for watching! 😀😀👍💚

Hi there! Ikea had it originally but seized segling it,, thrn I got it from ebay instead its called " socker". I got the dowiana from großräschener in Germany! 😀
dowiana is beautiful, but I can't say that it is the most beautiful Cattleya there is. Among the species, I much prefer rex. But my favorite is the hybrid of both, C. Triumphans. Seriously beautiful, seriously fragrant. Your Triumphans I believe they separate out as Tiumphans-Rosita since it is made with the rosita form.
That is a nice dowiana at a really good price. The prices in the US for dowiana has become absolutely ridiculous. Seedlings, and I mean plants with one or two post flask growths, go for $50. Blooming size plants are well over $100. Even though Hawaii produced a large crop of them last year, it hasn't brought the price down in the least.
Hi thanks for watching! Yes, they always do that ,, seize what to make so e extra money out of. Its the same as in the loricaridaee business ( aquaeium fish) the blue Eyed panaque, the one that you could get for 100 euro 30 years ago all of a sudden came from an occupated area in the south america, tve prize rose to approx 700 euro If thatbis enough...all If a sudden everybody desired that spieces... I hope my triumphans bounces back. My old Rex was about the same size when the scale took it... now theyre on to my triumphans as well. Have a nice day! 😀🌺
@@KarinsOrchids the Blue Eyes is really a sad story of environmental disaster. There was a massive chemical spill in the area of the river where they were collected (I think 1999 or 2000). About a year later they were allowed to collect in that river again and all of the Blue Eyes had large white lesions. Fish were sent to the University of Florida and it was determined that they had a virus so they were no longer exported. A few years later, Blue Eyes were found in another area but it is difficult to access and subject to catch limits, but they were virus free. Because of the difficulty in collecting them and the limits on them, the wholesale price went from $5 to $60 overnight.
@@michaelmccarthy4077 Yes, and the gerilla was watching the territory as well where its still endemic. About 730 us dollars was the last bid I saw on one of those, about 8 years ago so things might have changed a bit since then. Its the same with dowiana,,, If they were easy to collect at a fair price it wouldnt be as beautiful I guess 😁 Its the rarity that makes it more beautiful than it really is 😉
@@KarinsOrchids $700 seems a bit crazy, but supply and demand I guess. I used to work for a wholesaler and they cost us $60 FOB in 2009, so our true cost was around $85. We would sell them for $150 to retailers and who knows what they would sell them for. (my policy was don't ask, I don't want to know)
@@michaelmccarthy4077 Aha! Its fun to see that the same hobbies attracts the same kind of people. Lots of dog livets has got orchid collections as well as aquarium hobby! For now I have SA tanks such as discus, catfish and earth eathers apistogramma etc😀

Hi and thank's for stopping by! 😀😀 Well shes not the easiest one to get hold of esp as a decent sized one! I was beeing lucky that's all. Maybe ship from Europe or ask the nurseries nearby your area to import it? I managed to do that twice with some other cattleyas! Good luck with it I beat itll work any day now for you. As for my dream of purchasing a nice Iwanagara Apple blossom... 😍
@@KarinsOrchids My orchid society has the Dowiana but not for sale this year. When they do divisions they sale them to members before anyone else. So hopefully I will be able to get her next spring. Oh I'm looking for the Iwanagara Apple Blossom as well. Good luck on your hunt and good growing. Have a nice Sunday.
