This car would've succeeded, it was just the bad timing in the market that did it in, in my opinion. I'd need a garage to house one of these if I were ever able to get my hands on one.
GM is focused on revenue producing CUVs, and at the time of this car's heyday, fuel economy in the sedans. That left little for a niche market in terms of funding to market their vehicles.
I have a G8 GT, once you put a CAI and cat backs on, it really wakes the car up. The G8 was based on the VE Commodore, the SS was based on the VF Commodore.
Nice review! I've owned 3 G8s and some things you mentioned like broken driver's seat trim and key FOB falling apart are very common. Still have an M6 Pacific Slate GXP with 6000 miles sitting in the garage.
I’ve replaced my drivers seat trim three times on my 2008 and the last one I installed broke again. I just gave up and used cable ties to fix it. It’s been a few years and it’s still working.
This GXP has an aftermarket exhaust and an aftermarket intake. The stock exhaust system doesn't drone. The LS3 is probably been tuned too, if that is the case it's putting out at least 450hp. There is nothing wrong with GM quality, the car has 12 years of wear and tear on it. This design dates back to 2007. Compare the interior to other cars from 2007, and the G8 interior is hands down better quality than 95% of the vehicles from that era. The only bad thing about the G8 is the high end Blaupunkt stereo system is crap.
This was my dream car when it came out. Unfortunately, by the time was financially able to get a car, Pontiac had long been defunct. Finding these in good condition now is rare. Enjoy that car man

@@MeynMotorGroup Would it truly be more though. I figured values would have gone up quite a bit on the G8 GXP by now. Such a rare vehicle from a GM division that isn't around anymore.
Yea I think perhaps parts prices might be higher or just non existent in general because Pontiac is no longer in business but idk I feel like that applies for many cars that have gone up in value lol
I own a GT version, going to be swapping in an LS3 crate engine due to a lifter fucking up my L76. For those who are in the market for a G8, they are absolutely awesome cars. However, if you go for a GT just beware of lifter failure. I didn't even have the DoD and it still failed, from the factory the DoD will destroy your engine at any given moment, save up some money to get that deleted and put some Johnson lifters in it and you'll have a nice reliable car 🤙🏼
My lifter was knocking after 40000. I started using top engine cleaner before oil changes. Knocking went away. Still own it at 117000 miles. No knocking yet 😊
Don't bother with the cost of an LS3. Swap in a Brian Tooley Racing DOD delete kit with the Stage 1 cam. After the tune, I ended up with over 400 hp at rear wheels (more than an LS3) with stock exhaust and intake. My G8 screams now.
No,,, You need to thank Australia 🇦🇺 For this car ⁉️👍 it’s a Aussie Holden SS , which was made here as a left hand drive for The US /Canadian Markets ,, and rebadged as a Pontiac G8 ,, They do run the Chev motor 5.7 or 6.0 litre also a 6.2 supercharged, all from the Corvette ⁉️But we produced our own since early 2000s ....🤪🤪🤔
I think it's the torque low down (revs low + big engine) ... Your Lexus has a bit more power although is 200-300lbs heavier and a lot less torque. It's the torque low down that is making the difference. And less insulation etc... How does this feel vs the Stinger? Not much left around performance sedans that are non German. Looking forward to the CT4/5, Blackwings. Dat interior though, rough.
This def annihlates a Stinger for fun haha and even handling dynamics but Stinger feels more refined of course, Chevy SS came after this so probably a more cleaned up experience compared to this. Yea LC is a hard one to explain, like you said this has about 20 more torque and low down so it feels quicker to me LC you gotta wind it out to get the thrill
My grandpa used to be a GMAC employee 1969-89, he used to have a couple sayings "GMC, stands for Generic Made Chevy's." and "GM might know how to make decent vehicles, but some of their performance vehicles and limited models, lack a good advertising department, and I think their stupid for it."

You should get your hands on a straight 6 Barra engine, its the aussie 2jz, produced by Ford Australia but unfortunately not for the US market, these things are insane, and ive seen people import them to America!
The G8 GT comes standard with a LSD too
This is going to be my car when $AMC goes to the moon!
My old car! I miss this ride
Very cool that you owned this gem my friend!
Justaholdn You should have kept it cuz maintence upkeep cost would have offset value$$
He said just look at how well this car aged zoomed out and i saw the most basic 4 door sallon car ever! Look like every 4 door ford taurses, crown Victoria , and so on with chrome wheels
This is great car .however only the tip of the ice berge for holden v8.checkout holden speshal vehicle
.they had a all wheel drive vershan.
A big block vershan.
Feril body kits and trim.
Whay improved handling.
Holden also had 4 door utes,
And don't forget the luctury grange
With long wheel base
Station wagons .
Never forgotten!! we got a hugggeeeee g8 group in houston!
I have driven both the G8 and the SS . For the Money The later SS 16,17 with Mag ride Are better
Nice and yea that def makes sense
..and I find Opel Omega by Lotus V6 what same power then Your V8 G8 . But price not 25,000 USd but more like 43,900 euros ( 44,500 USD ) .
The short mode is in the shifter just move it over to the right.
I have all the premium 11 speaker setup. And the windows are one touch down just not one touch up.
Awesome review! The car from my home country haha! The commodore was a great car but it didn’t make financial sense in the end unfortunately.
Very cool to have so many Australian viewers love it! And yea unfortunately cars like these never make a good business sense so they end up going away
@@MeynMotorGroup an Australia whose lives in North Carolina haha
Oh wow that's awesome glad to have your support really cool to have viewers so close by!
Looks like a BMW when BMW's did not look like ass. Awesome platform and good suspension. Muscle car engine and feel. Lots or room inside. Has Australian V8 super car heritage. Engine that has maybe the greatest aftermarket support of any engine every. Motor that is easy to work on. Other than a spartan looking interior, I don't see any downsides to this car.
i never wanted one till like 3 months ago
sport mode ,move shift lever to th right.
Yea but that was mostly just a manual mode tho which did work pretty nice but no other sport buttons or anything
@@MeynMotorGroup Sport mode is correct shifter to the right doesnt become a manual shift until you upshift or downshift per owners manaul
@@MeynMotorGroup it is sport mode for this car it keeps your revs at higher Rpms when pushing hard out of corners etc just don’t push the shifter up and down let the car do it..
A lot of people here in Australia are buying Pontiac G8 bumpers and Badges for there Holden Commodores
Now that’s funny!
@@pmscalisi yeah it is
I saw a Holden with G8 front end yesterday
That would be an incredible collector's car. However I am not sure I wouldn't rather have a newer, but very similar Chevrolet SS with 6spd manual and Magnetic dampers.
Agreed! And yea really want to try a Chevy SS
@@MeynMotorGroup
You should, and then you can compare the 2 drives. I would be interested in hearing which one you liked more.
Yes that would be ideal! But yea I think the SS will be even more of a clean driving experience albeit more money to buy tho since it's newer
@@MeynMotorGroup
Would it truly be more though.
What does it weigh? Imagine that drivetrain dropped in a 2900 lb nova or vega
I thought the gpx was superchargered? I have a GT. 440 to the wheels with a borla exhaust and a deablo tune.
No.. All Fukkn Motor💯🔥🔥I have a M6 Gxp.. Grabb yo Balls Fasssssss
The firehawk g8 was supercharged. Like only 23 or so made.
@@warpigs777 I know about one. I thought the gxp was also
@@cardboardrob1 I wish, picking one up this month. Either a liquid red with automatic 13k miles. Or silver with manual trans 4k miles
@@warpigs777 awesome hopefully you get the manual. Mine is dark gray automatic with borla exhaust and a deablo tune
Well GM produces now that dont but yea its a Commodore
No 5.7 tho
My Red GXP has 57,500 mi on her! Take it to car shows once per month. Perfect condition! 40k and ill part with her...
Let’s goooo new video
Appreciate you my friend!
Wow it still has some of the holden badges
I put them on the car after i bought it. I see the dealer hasn’t removed them
I think it's the torque low down (revs low + big engine) ...
Why did Pontiac discontinued to keep making their cars?
My grandpa used to be a GMAC employee 1969-89, he used to have a couple sayings "GMC, stands for Generic Made Chevy's." and "GM might know how to make decent vehicles, but some of their performance vehicles and limited models, lack a good advertising department, and I think their stupid for it."
Good job 👍
