The intellectual modesty of this dude. The sheer bloody reasonableness. Fantastic stuff.
This is not intellectual modesty or reasonableness. It’s being Canadian…
Why I chose Richard to teach me about this stuff!! What a great mind
To me, he presented himself as an ethical person in this video as well.
@@peterjessee7888 I tend to prefer Canadian content creators because of their rigor and intellectual maturity and honesty.
Bro, you just don't get it. You are leaving so much money on the table. You need to use technical analysis to start day trading forex memecoin options. Learn how by buying my course for $777.
This is why RUclipsrs with day jobs are your best bet. Their livelihood isnt totally tied to the algorithm, and thus they can do stuff like this
I'm a professional musician and vocal coach, I often have people say I should start a vocal coaching channel on RUclips and my answer is always the same:
Why?
Why should I spend years building up a channel, putting all the time and effort it requires, when I'm already making a very nice living doing what I love?
All I think when I see RUclips vocal coaches is "how do you have time for this? I have 5 lessons today, another 4 tomorrow and a gig in the evening"
To update an old saying:
Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, become RUclipsrs.
Oh, pretty deep for sure
@@bipolarminddroppings bitter boy says what?
@@bipolarminddroppingsit his hobby
@@bipolarminddroppingsThat WOULD work if it wasn’t for the fact that RUclipsrs make 10x more then you.
This is a great example professional ethics. Would be nice if this was commonplace on the internets wild west of not financial advice.
Well said

"Bored Grape" (holds up picture)
Comedy gold. 😂
It was so clever and a great use of prop comedy. If you know, you know it in an instant, and it hit perfectly.
And the Tesla tears... The little logo curled in a corner, so sad for that little blue guy🥺 😭
After seeing multiple billboards of "investment gurus" and "super lawyers," we kind of need more content like this.
Prospective clients are always asking if I'm a "Super Lawyer." I tell them I'm average, I just like to wear a cape.
What is a super lawyer
@@cisium1184 Splendid.
Most Canadian video ever. 1% celebration, 99% apology.
9:55 "Success is a lousy teacher, it seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose"
Reminds me of the 2008 GFC when it was said "Wall Street Executives Mistook Leverage for Genius" - Steve Eisman (N.B.The character "Mark Baum" is based on Eisman in the film "The Big Short")
the big short is SOOOO underrated - I still recommend it to everyone
I rented that movie on Amazon Prime and watched it last weekend. Excellent movie that is criminally underrated. The symbolic gestures were noted, like the masks at the airport as a futile attempt at protection to keep the toxicity "contained" and the large sunglasses as the old lady "turns a blind eye" to it all. Steve Carrell is usually so silly but this one character (yes based on the real man Eisman) brought tears to my eyes. He is the personification in that movie to the saying, "The truth shall set you free, but first it will (pee) you off." Did you see the cameo of the real Michael Burry in that one scene? A "blink and you miss it" moment, like an old Alfred Hitchcock moment.
It also seduces lucky people into thinking they are smart.
Look up liars loans. The fraud was out in the open
Success is not a teacher. Failure is the teacher and success is the reward for the lesson.
When I was brand new to investing a coworker was adamant that I invest in weed, it was her ticket to an early retirement and mine, too. I put $200 on a promising Canadian weed company and it served as a relatively cheap lesson in not picking stocks based on one person’s recommendation and noting more. That $200 is worth less than a dollar today, and yes I still hold it is a reminder of this lesson.
If you’re Canadian and ever met some of those involved with the weed industry, you’d realize quickly many of these companies have no future.
Just outta curiosity which company was it??
Did that with Sundial too lol
@@williams11372 ACB, and I misspoke - my holding in them is now worth one dollar and two cents.
@@BusterDarcy if the company survives it might be worth something someday. I think there _is_ a sizeable market for legal marijuana, just these companies tried to raise capital like a bunch of new smokers were gonna come out of the wood work instead of the reality that the black market is being converted into a legal regulated market. So the capital raise was for an opportunity that was not real, but there is a real and sizeable opportunity worth competing for.
I am sure this video will age like fine wine!
This intro was absolutely hilarious. The video was also very good, and I genuinely enjoy the intellectual veggies this channel provides. Very much needed in the financial influencer landscape.
Intellectual veggies is such a nice way to describe it 😂
You don't give financial advice, but you do give financial knowledge so that I can understand better what's going on, and I appreciate that.
This quality of humility only comes from wisdom and experiene. I have been a casual enjoyer of your content for awhile but this video just earned you a massive amount of respect! Keep up the great work
One of the best Finance/Investing youtubers out there
used to watch him and Joseph Carlson but now just him as Joseph has kinda lost it after he grew his channel.
@@daarom3472 i like Patrick Boyle and Benjamin to
He and coofezilw are goid
Boyle is far better
Yes, Plain Bagel and Value Investing with Sven Carlin are in the top for real educational value!
I'm normally a big fan of index investing, and thus consume mostly content focused on that, but you are the only active investor that I love listening to. And this video is a perfect example of that. Thank you for your work.
i just got rejected an internship from an active research firm, they said the reason they rejected me was that my skillset isn't something that the company is looking for, looking back at it i shouldn't have shit on active management during the interview which is probably the thing that got me rejected lol
OMG - love your intro! 😂It just made my day! Who knew you were a closet sommelier !😉By the way, were you drinking REAL wine?
Yes I was, don’t tell RUclips
@@ThePlainBagel Cheers! 🍷❤
This was the best intro so far keep it up
Your videos are fantastic, a great blend of humor/analysis/realism delivered with clear speech. You display the healthy level of confidence that you preach! Premium content, much love.
I’m so impressed by your honesty and humility. The world of finance, and hey the rest of the world needs more of this!
I'm a designer, and I love that you made custom-designed wine labels. 👌
I love your earnest, nitpicky attitude. Aside from what these qualities say about your trustworthiness, I also find them generally endearing. Thanks for being in this space and doing what you do.
No one is talking about the EFFORT put in to that intro!! BRAVO!
Always enjoy the education and humour in all your videos. Most importantly, appreciate the invitation to us viewers to scrutinise the content you put out; something which no 'influencer' should shy away from (especially when it comes to topics with potentially far-reaching consequences like finance). Keep doing what you do Richard.
Love the sarcasm. You and Patrick Boyle are real treats to watch. Thanks for your work, insights and creativity. The humility and self-reflection are nice bonuses, too.
Any investor who claims they've never had a bad call hasn't been investing that long.
... it happens to ALL of us.
Another great video! 🙂👍
party-pooping is way underrated (atleast in finance)
great stuff as always
Your character ages like the absolute finest of wine. Fantastic and this is why I follow you and this channel. :)
Only plain bagel could flex “I told you I was right” and still come off humbly.
Yeah right it's incredible that things also go down I would never expect that
This is the first video I have seen of yours. I’ve heard about your content before but never checked it out. I appreciate the forward attitude and your transparency. Even when we are right, we can be wrong. Look forward to more of your stuff.
Love your content good sir. Solid mix of humility, sound advice and some tongue-in-cheek humour. Well done, keep up the good work!

Thank you Richard for being transparent. Been following the channel for a while really like the info given. Please keep up the transparency and don't ever change the way u are !!
the first 2' of the video makes me admire ur knowledge, ur sense of humor and the effort u put in these video so much... but then the second part has me respect u on another level! great food for thought, and thank you so much for the useful videos!
The cold open was brilliantly done; keep up the great work in 2023!
This is exactly why I follow you. You only seek to teach and inform, and you're totally humble when you're right or wrong.
I love the high effort that went into the intro!
Humility is rare amongst financial RUclipsrs. I really respect this channel.
Thank you. Your honesty and transparency is refreshing!
Imagine this video in a museum 50 years from now, and visiting schoolchildren not understanding a single reference while their 85 millenial chaperone is cackling their head off at the "bored grape" pun
Awesome Video! Love the content you were posting that was cautioning investors on the wild exuberance occurring in the markets during the pandemic.
Plain Bagel, you are one of the most inspiring channels on RUclips. Your commitment to honesty and encouragement of others to pursue judiciousness and critical thinking is rare. Youre so genuine and humble and I really appreciate and want to emulate you bro
Definitely one of the best and most entertaining videos you've made :) Keep up the good job!
Fooled me with that intro. I was watching it and wondering "since when did Richard become a pompous braggart???" Well played sir. Keep up the great work!
It was savage, but I figured he wouldn't keep it up.
Broo, it was so obviously sarcastic. You can tell by the names of the wines like "Bored Grapes" (genius name btw).
@@TrumpForPrison2023 Ya I probably should have paid closer attention. I initially thought the names were ripping on the folks who invested and lost money, not himself. Should have known better.
I'm sure this video will also age like a fine wine.
All kidding aside, the intro was great and it's solid message overall. Well done!
Very modest. RUclips is lucky you have you as a creator. You truly had a huge positive impact on my life.
Bro...I have found this 5 months later...just got past the intro and cant breathe. THANK YOU
I freaking love this guy
This is quality content. I had a good chuckle 🤣🤣
Such a great video. You are willing to directly address both your good and bad predictions and thoughts. Good stuff. Keep it up!
This was hilarious, informative, and humbling. Thank you for everything Richard ❤️
this is the real canadian accent.
This is the one we only use amongst ourselves to keep it hidden from outsiders
Haven't watched the channel in awhile but since when do plain bagels have flavors? Humor mixed with finance and education = financial edutainment... not bad, Liked.
This is how you stay classy. Well made sir. Keep up the amazing work!
Love this channel for the sheer humility of the guy.
I haven't laughed this hard at a video in a while. Thank you!
Sensational content.
Genuinely want to appreciate the your humility ✌🏻
Honestly glad I saw this video today. It's taught me an important lesson in humility.
“A little skunky some dank” I’m in tears 😂😂
Your cutting sarcasm in this video... chef's kiss... Seems Patrick Boyle has had a significant influence over you?
I don’t think so. I think they just like each other’s content
He’s even stealing his accent 😂
Loved the intro, and then your humility afterwards!
This humility and thoughtful reflection earned you a subscriber.
Richard continuing to show why he is a top tier investing channel
Top tier info and comedy with a hint of gloating...Well done sir.
you are way to humble. I respect the nuance of why you are so humble
I love the distilled reasonableness that every video of yours ha

You are one of the very few "youtube investors" that I would trust to management my money....well done.
Respect and trust has been earned.
Wait, if Plain Bagel is capable of being wrong, who can I trust all my money with? That's depressing. I see all these successful people on RUclips and Tiktok and they say it's easy. I'm sure they wouldn't lie to me.

Love your channel and a subscriber, BUT 11.7.2023, Bitcoin UP, Tesla UP, glad i missed those original vids, sitting pretty at the mo :) my fine wine is just fine.
Would you be able to talk about a time you made a bad call or lost $$ on an investment? Might help people to realize that even trained professionals get stuff wrong
It is normal for calculated risks to come out flat. As long as you're not bad at math, you'll come out ahead.
He might not be able to do that if its from his day job.
he mentioned his 2018 bitcoin video didn't age as well because by the second one years later, it had over doubled in value.
@@treiricketts7572 A second mistake he made in his second Bitcoin video was to call out gold bugs for being so wrong about inflation, just as they were about to be proven so right on inflation (if not gold) Bitcoin has proven almost all of its critics wrong over time, at least as it comes to price appreciation.
+1
Logic and reason! What a concept! Thanks for the vid.
