When you discuss BN6 post game will you also discuss the real world battle chips from throughout the latter trilogy and 6 in particular the ability to access Link Navis in PVP mode, and 3 special characters you cannot access in any other method (Beastless Megaman, Permanent Beast Megaman and Protoman) a feature sadly not replicated in the legacy collections.

There's a romhack that fixes a lot of the game's issues. It doesn't turn the game into anything close to a masterpiece mind you, but it is, at the very least, significantly more playable. The romhack is titled, fittingly, "The Legacy of Not Dying to Wolves".

If we're talking powerscaling, then this game pretty much low-diffed John's brain cells. :V

    • @christiancinnabars1402
      @christiancinnabars1402 3 месяца назад +4

Power scaling, especially in a battle focused series like Dragon Ball, is still an important narrative tool. Obviously not to the physics derived or exact number based precision that a lot of debaters want it to be for their cross-series mayhem, but it is a system that shows you which character can do what at a given time. For example, why didn't Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, Kami, Chi-chi, and Roshi just turbo-jump Piccolo Jr at the end of the 23rd World Tournament? Because he would easy stir-fry them into a $30 platter in half a second if they did.
Going by this game's logic, in all its weird pseudo-progression glory, a f*cking _pack of wolves_ could have crawled out from the forest and mauled Raditz in 5 minutes flat. Boom, end of the Saiyan Saga (Nappa and Vegeta don't learn about the Dragon Balls, so they don't bother coming over).
I get that "lmao power levels" is a joke and all, but it's been over twenty years of it nonstop, to the point people are now interpreting it less as "lol [shounen author] is bad at power progression" and more as "you shouldn't care about _power_ scaling in a series centered around building up and displaying _power."_

If I recall correctly, they were also responsible for Taiketsu? So if anything, they're just never given enough time/money to make a decent game. Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu's Fury both turned out significantly better because they could simply build on top of what they already had.
If anything, it's kinda sad, they could have probably pulled off a lot with Dragon Ball if they were.

I don't think there is a single person in this world that liked this game even as a kid, this game was so hated at my school that bullies became friends with some of the nerds just because of their mutual hate for this game, and unfortunately as Dragon Ball fans when kids asked for Dragon Ball games, this was basically the game that most parents got for their kids because a lot of parents didn't do the research to find out what games were good and stuff. Fortunately because I didn't own a GBA my parents never bought this game for me, and I only played it second hand from borrowing a friend's GBA or something, and then later in life through emulation, and the only way to make this game actually feel playable, was through the use of some cheats to give you infinite Ki and infinite flight, because then you could actually do stuff without it feeling so tedious since you could just fly everywhere, and with infinite Ki you could actually use your attacks to cheese most fights.
I really wish that they had changed the name for Legacy of Goku 2 though, because after the first game was so bad a lot of people complete skipped on the second one, because of the reputation that the first game had, and this made a lot of people miss out on having a good time with the sequel, which is why I am glad that Buu's fury didn't have the Legacy of Goku title, but the damage had been done and nobody really trusted the other GBA Dragon Ball games after Legacy of Goku 1, so a lot of people missed out on Legacy 2 and Buu's Fury and even Supersonic warriors, which is a shame as all those games are pretty fun, but that is what happens when a bad game gets pushed to market most likely because of time constraints and stuff, and developers needing to meet deadlines and crap.

14:27 Because this game was very well made, you can actually fly into the dinosaur skeleton and get the Solar Flare as soon as you enter this guy's house, without needing to complete any of the sidequests, it makes things like getting the pterodactyl egg and getting past the T-rex a bit easier, or just getting around the wolves in the village, this was something I discovered by accident as a kid and I'll never forget as a result
19:01 There ARE enemies... but they're exact copies of the spirits you're looking for with literally no way to distinguish the two of them besides being able to talk to the ones that don't kill you
23:08 The way Ki seems to work in this game is that even though the bar functionally remains the same with no difference, your Ki attacks do more damage the higher the number in the pause menu is, which increases every time you level up, giving the illusion of using "more Ki" for your attacks despite nothing visually changing in how the bar appears to the player. You can also see differences in strength when leveling up, the most visible way to see this is using the debug menu to fight Frieza at level 1 and needing to punch him for up to *40 minutes or more* (assuming you're using the invincibility glitch to keep him from fighting back) compared to the much shorter time it would take if you were playing the game normally to get past his first form
I'm actually surprised that HP works the way that it does because the other 3 stats in the game (strength, Ki, and speed) all work as intended

It's worth mentioning that leveling up DOES increase your damage output but it's obviously not noticible playing the game normally since the game just gives you all the exp you need. If you use glitches to skip bosses or just cheat to the end and fight Frieza underleveled, you will discover that he takes forever to kill. There is a glitch that lets you permanently lock bosses into Solar Flare stun and he still takes several minutes of mashing the attack button because your damage output is so low.

Your attack power is invisible and you do get stronger as you train and level up, but it's hard to tell because of the hit box system. There's an audio cue signifying if you landed a real hit or not. This applies for all attacks. Weak sounds indicate blocked damage, strong sounds indicates inflicted damage. The problem is that there's a cool down time that last for about 3 seconds before you or the CPU can land inflicted damage again. This is why the solar flare comes in handy because it helps you avoid the enemy as you wait for your cool down to wear off. Unfortunately there's no in game tutorial that explains the combat system at all.

Yeah I disagree with the "There is no value" statement because if anything, bluntly, the fact that these people made this game is a good reminder that you can, in fact, massively improve on your work even when you put out something bad and it's no reason you shouldn't just fuckin' go for it sometimes. The little bits of skill you learn while doing the thing badly are gonna be worth it to make something you're proud of.
Yeah, you're gonna get pointed and laughed at, but if you keep working on it those are gonna turn into "Be careful of who you made fun of in high school" jokes with time.

I remember the TV ad for this with that joke disclaimer the narrator rattled off at the end. Something about being a "very fun game" that has every food you could want "except maybe pizza" and the devs not being responsible "if the player's hair changes to Goku Yellow?"

That was legit a good game. It tackled the Piccolo battle at the tournament, Goku and Chi-Chi saving the Ox King, and stuff leading up to Raditz. Apparently they were going to offer dub sounds but forgot about them.

I think attacks have caps on the % of damage you can take, cause when you level up (presumably above whatever level the enemies are designated as being) you start tanking their hits way better and can take them down in far fewer hits. I think stats aren't really just stats so much as percentages based on your level compared to your opponent or something like that. They probably did this on purpose for players who do input those codes to skip to later levels. I'd be curious to compare the damage you do when you minimally level up and survive just using the invincibility glitch. I'm pretty sure I tried this once and got one shot by a ki blast from Raditz, so I think these things do matter, though the numbers are probably fake.
Also, the flight gague increases with levels, for the most part. It caps at 99 and increases more and more per level.
One thing I really like about this series is that the first game caps at level 25, 2 caps at 50, and then 3 caps at 200 (though I wish it capped at 100 to maintain level caps doubling the previous game) but since you get most characters above level 70 of so, I get it. Though I also don't particularly like starting that high and going so ridiculously high, or choosing stat distributions myself, even if it can lead to more unique replay value. But 3 didn't need that much since it's such a long game anyhow and a lot of characters will end up all feeling basically the same cause you have 3 stats and 5 characters, so it's not like you can make them all super specialized to be that different from each other

As somebody who played the game in its entierty via emulatuon some years ago, I can con firm that it was quite bad.
The namek temple got a bit confusing for me (I even think that I had to restart the game from the beginning being like "am I softlocked or something?", but I'm not sure), then I saw a walkthrough and discovered you needed to follow some of the finger pointing statues. Joke's on ke to have not payed enough attention to the texts in the temple itself.
I should really try to complete Legacy of Goku 2 one of those days. Like, I played a lot of it, but never got to the end.

The legacy of Goku games are a good example of why you shouldn't let your failures hold you back
    Learn from your mistakes
Cause each game builds on the prior game.
Side-note: While I understand (and somewhat agree) the fatigue regarding raditz to boo....
I'd love it a legacy of goku game that covers the entirerity of Dragon Ball Z would be made.

About the strength/level up/HP gains, it's definitely there. My first playthrough I remember I was very embarrassingly stuck in the Namek Temple for so long that I hit max level, and when the Ginyu Force came in, I killed most of them in less than 10 punches each, and they dealt way less damage than you showed.
I wonder if it's a PAL copy situation where a few things were fixed for our release. There's like a 5 month gap between USA & French release.

    • @knijohn3581
      @knijohn3581  3 месяца назад

It's funny you say that. I had also found an IGN guide that said the Ginyu Force should go down in like 2-3 Kamehamehas around Level 18-20. I know the JP release of Legacy of Goku 2 had some changes because it came later so maybe you're right that later releases of the game had better balancing/were fixed or something.

I played this after having played through Legacy of Goku II several times as a little kid, and it gave me whiplash. I only beat it through cheese and sheer determination because I just wanted to experience more Dragonball through whatever means I could get my hands on.
I love II and Buu’s Fury though, they had an amazing redemption arc, with Buu’s Fury probably being one of my most played GBA games.

1 thing I will give this game, it has my favorite Super Saiyan transformation from this entire series.
2 has no real effects outside of the hair and 3 has the boring generic DBZ aura, which is cool at first, but becomes stale when you realize Super Saiyan gives you a full bar of ki no matter how much ki you have and only takes 10 seconds to recharge, meaning you spend almost the entire game going Super Saiyan, using all your ki, and then waiting 10 seconds to do it again. It also doesn't feel like it's moving the dust or rocks around you, like this first effect does. I think that makes this first one special. I've replayed this game a number of times just to get to this transformation because I like it so much and I enjoy the cheese of the games enough
