About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on RUclips videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

Those pigs have got it made in the shade. 😊🐷🐷☀️🌈
Jason, it all looks great, piggies seem to already love you - thanks for the idea of freezing your extra food scraps!!!
I love that you call them "the brothers". They really are cool pigs! I mean, I know they're for your freezer, but no sense in not fully enjoying them in the meantime. I know they appreciate it!
It may also help to say the same phrase every time you feed them. “Brothers!” Or “Here pigs!” while you shake the bucket will help get their attention. Comes in handy if you ever need to load them or they get out & you are trying to get them to follow you. You want them to associate you with treats.
There ya go. Looks like they've already bonded to you. Great job!
More scratching, less slapping. Pigs ❤️ to be scratched. Slapping/tapping them generally is how you encourage pigs to get moving. -9 year 4-H Swine Club member. 😉😁
With you living in North Carolina and the Wright Bro’s being famous in that state. You should name your pigs Wilbur and Orville .
i was thinking the same, with their ears they remind me of Dumbo and the Wright Brothers would just fit that :)
*Unfortunate part is they'll be butchering them in a few months‼️*
I'm amazed that you are cleaning their bowls. My folks had pigs their entire lives, my dad built a wooden trough and they were fed in it morning and night.
These pigs are going to become very high minded, with all the attention they are getting . . .
Jason, you are doing a good job with the new pigs. Your concern for their welfare will make you an observant owner. Ever day you’re learning something new. Practice makes perfect!
I Knew Justin Rhodes would give you his advice!👍🏻😁 Good Job
You'll be fine with your pigs👍🏻😘God Bless
So glad you and the "Brothers" are beginning to develop a good relationship. Take Care Be Safe. God Bless
I wouldn’t worry too much about sanitizing their bowls. The are pretty resilient and actually get their noses into anything. Anything. 😳
You have such a pretty, neat homestead. I really enjoy watching your family.
Thank you so much!
I can see you wukl make money oyt of ur honestead
Are u not using corn as your feed,
Hi...... Jason nice to see you, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐖🌱🎥👍👍👍
we put our barrel on the outside of the pen on a stand for gravity flow then ran the nipple through to the pigs with an extension and secured it to a 2x4 so the pigs couldn't bang it around.
nice!
Do pigs play hard?
Those are the most calm pigs. I have ever seen. When I see Meg's, Jason, ect. They sound and act like they are starving. Spoiled pigs. Lol
yeah, they are pretty calm.
Looks like a good place to be a pig! You also don't have to compost *all* of their waste in that pen with them -- you could remove what's visible to compost outside of the pen (still in wood chips), to reduce the potential parasite load in the pen, and then still add more wood chips on top of their poop corner. If you're walking back and forth with the fork full of wood chips anyway (to/from the pen/pile), it wouldn't be much extra work to remove as many droppings as you can easily get.
It's amazing how u didn't want to wake the pigs💯 now they're over 200 lb and ready to eat
Those EARS! Are they gonna grow into those?
You act like a first tjme mom. So funny.
I think it's awesome the way he cares for his harvest !
Liked and appreciated uplifting agriculture content.
They look super happy
thanks guys!
Those are the first pigs I've saw that might could actually fly.... LOL!!! WOW what some ears!!! 🐖👂
I just love seeing you guys with the pigs. It is a big adventure isn’t it? I think if you just relax and enjoy, and use common sense you’ll be fine! Enjoy!
Good job listening to Lorraine on the tarp cover!! The brothers are just what you guys needed!!
I hung out with my pigs for a good 3-4 hours a day. It’s really exciting. Pigs are a neat animal. And I think the best homestead animal. Since you’re in the south. Look around for inexpensive whole peanuts. And start collecting acorns. If you give them a steady supply of peanuts. It makes the fat taste so damn good.
Have you thought about processing yet? Maybe have Hand Hewn Farms do a class at your homestead?
Do people breathe sow the land the best Channel👍👍
your a natural with the piggies!
The Bacon Brothers aren't afraid of you at all. You're a good soul. :)
Your pigs are so settled after 24 hours. You are on winners with the garbage disposal units. Make sure everyone who goes in the pigport wear closed toe shoes.
Yay! You all are doing great. "The brothers", love it. So cool how you saved food scraps ahead of time. Spring on the homestead looks like it will be busy! Wish I could be doing that along with you all. :0
Also loved Lorraine's green skirt.
The pig enclosure looks very nice, they look like 2 very well fed happy pigs !
Jason, I had to laugh when you asked if it was wierd that you didn't want to wake piggies. Lol
I wish you’d rename your channel “The Laughing Farmers!” You rock.
Looks like they are starting to warm up to you already. God Bless y'all
FACTS !!!🙏👍💪🔥😬
Love the music!
thanks
Great idea storing up "pig scraps" in your freezer beforehand.....good job planning ahead for when the pigs came to your homestead.
Kevin BACON & John HAMM for the brother pigs names! So good to see your little homestead growing
Looks like you are getting more comfortable around them already. Excited to watch your journey!
I put the rubber gasket on the inside of the barrel and had no leaks.
I also have one on the inside. seems to be doing ok now. thanks!
@@SowtheLand you are underestimating the strength and destructive nature of pigs, especially are they now grow larger.
Very smart saving the scraps for the pigs.
The pigs look great. They'll do fine and will eat any and everything you give them lol. God Bless and Peace Be With You All ☮️🙏❣️
Pig's are easy to raise food & water and Lovin. We started out with 4, 2 years ago and processed 4 and still 11 more to go. Y'all be find Sow the Land🌱.🐖🐖🙏😷🇺🇸👍👍🌴🌴
Lorraine I love your dresses & skirts you always look so pretty in the garden.
I LOVE the piggies & you guys look after your animals so well- glad you saved all that left over produce etc for them as they really appreciate it- they look really healthy & happy. Cheers Denise - Australia
Bear shaw farms has 1 or 2 concrete duck eggs in each duck nest. He does this to help the ducks know where their eggs should go. Good luck
looks like the pigs are settling nicely . I see you are giving the ear scratches now. looks like they love it !! you'll be a pig pro in no time ! keep up the great work !!!
The bin is much to thin to screw in that type of waterer....you need to bring a line to a more solid vessel that isn't going to wiggle when they drink. Check out Living Traditions Homestead channel...they recently added a new pig watering station...that's what you need to sturdy your application.
You're a natural with pigs. Keep up the good work. I look forward to learning about how you care for the pigs, and grow those 2020 meat chickens.
Helicopter Mom/Dude with pigs, LMAO, you guys ROCK!!!
I like that naming convention, good looking pigs!
look where God has brought you in 4 years!! So happy for you..do those pigs eat all day..wow, 2 spoiled little guys..lol.I noticed you all were not bundled up, so I'm assuming the weather was warmer today..be safe, stay strong, keep praising Him.
I don't think it's weird at all that you don't want to wake them up...just shows you care. I am the same way and hate waking up an animal or person when they are sleeping. I don't like disturbing anyone. Anyway...looks like your off to a great start.
Pigs get vitamin D from the sun! They love it!
Looking great guys! They are going to be the most spoiled pigs on RUclips.
It's looking good with your new guys, so congratulations on achieving another homestead goal. And thank you for that Dylan song at the end. Cheers, Ardith
Practice makes perfect! Love the new nesting box! You will have those pigs spoiled. Keep up the great work. Your videos are getting much better!
They seem like there adjusting very well cute brothers
A bulkhead fitting is designed to seal tight for a tank or barrel. Good work and videos.
Love the new pigs! We were building raised garden beds and new barn. Video coming Monday.
Congrats is boys, I image is like having new baby human. Happy for your family.
Ya if it smells add carbon.... rotation or carbon diaper or clean out... for winter deep diaper keeps animals warmer...Mr rabbits love layers all winter but come spring they kick it all out...the hay... wood chips poop hay...makes technically a compost pile
I really enjoy watching your videos...I like your other homestead friends too...you all do a great job...you guys are kinda unique...a different way I can't explain it but I really appreciate your way or seeing it your ways... sometimes we need to give encouraging words especially it going crazy out there...tell the people that have to work through this we appreciate them from the doctor to the cashier
Much love guys...eat your veggies and stay well family
Really getting serious on now 😂👪👍 keep learning and producing
You guys are taking such good care of your new pigs!
Recycling paper feed bags for walkways. Brilliant!!
I'm doing it this weekend!!
Man im conflicted with the whole raising pigs on wood chips like this, I watched Justin do it last year and im still just like I dunno lol. My concern is they are going to get way to hot in there, dont wood chips create a lot of heat? I'm for sure going to keep following you all on this. Might be good idea to put a outside temperature gauge in there with them just so you can see the difference in temps. Pigs are my favorite thing to rasie.
you guys are super sweet with the little pigs, I really would love for you guys to be successful with this project
Love the music with the adorable animals.😊😊 Thanks for sharing. You are a great animal and crops care taker. Love you guys and the channel too.😍😍
I see that you love your new pigs.. that is awesome.. !!!
I think they love the new shade as well good job
So awesome ! You have always had mad skills Jason !
The pigs are so cute! I wouldn't have wanted to wake them either. And your homestead looks so neat & well organized.
PIGS!! They are cute. I like their large ears.
Congrats on the pigs! How awesome. Looking forward to watching your journey. Stay safe, stay healthy, grow on!
They are so calm! You're doing a great job, and I'm learning from you guys, as we plan for our first 2 piggies as well.
Sow the Land family you inspire me and I appreciate all your vlogs, Thank you!
The Brothers got friendly real fast!
I love this video so much that I've watched it several times and will probably watch it again. Please make more videos with the pigs.
Awesome he looked real happy with that ear scratch thought I even saw a smile there..
All caught up with you guys 😁
Have a wonderful day 🌻🌻🌻
Those mipple waters do much better when they are mounted to wood . Something stationary and solid. That way they wont leak.
Like your new addition, the brothers.
Nice looking hogs, and setup. Are you worried about the high tunnel getting too hot for them? I know you provided shade but any high tunnel setup I've been in it was super hot. I would also think the composting of the wood chips would add heat also. I'm curious to see how this works out, looks very interesting!
LEARNED OF YOU AND FAMILY FROM UNCLE JUSTIN RHODES VIDEOS. WE LIVE IN A MOBILE HOME ALSO. IN OUR BACKYARD HAVE MALE AND FEMALE POTBELLIES PIGS. TWO MONTHS AGO LUCY HAD 5 PIGLETS....LOL WOULD LOVE TO HAVE OUR PIGS PROCESS. WE LIVE IN LENOIR NC BUT IT IS GETTING BRUCE TO NOT SEE THEM AS PETS AND SEE THEM AS BACON. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
Awesome to see you guys progressing onto pigs! They are going to grow into real characters haha. I'm watching from New Zealand during our lockdown. Hope you and the family are safe and well!
Looks like you are giving those pigs a great life at Sow The Land!
Hi Sir, your content is really inspirational. Thank you for sharing.
Great video good luck on the pigs.
Your place is really looking like a well planned and designed homestead....so far so good....in four years...you've accomplished a whole lot since then. Keep it up 👍 you're doing great ❣️😄
The brothas are such chill pigs and love the ear rubs yous definitely picked a great pig breeder...well done yous got this...😊
So nice to see your farm expansion!
feed what they will eat, you are raising meat so there is no waste - even tho they are called 'pigs' they will eat what they need and not "pig out" if they are full. happy pigs means good tasting bacon! give them a small hut area in a corner so they can burrow into the bedding for sleeping. Blessings n sunshine always! Keep Rockin - Food is FREE!
The pigs are so dang cute. I still would make a slop trough out of a small plastic barrel.
You are getting comfortable with your pigs.
I watch Justin myself and glad yall collaborate like yall do...wish the would do it its not hard to have food that way.
You guys are doing well with your pigs.
Aww the pigs are so cute and adjusting well. You are so diligent with the pigs. :-) The brothers love the ear scratches . Such fun. :-)
Thanks so much
Hi friends, I just saw you placing the cover to block the sun, you can fasten it, to prevent the wind blowing it by placing rope crossings from one to the other side fencing, in each of the spaces between the post structure, making the crossing at the top, just holding the cover beneath the ropes. so you can even fold it up as needed to let or not, the light trough. hope to be clear in my description. best regards and congrats for your videos I´m a big fan.
Your garden beds with the wood chips in between the rows look AMAZING! :) I love how you reused the feed bags underneath the wood chips. Very efficient so you don't have to be dealing with a lot of weed growth between the rows. Your hard work early in the year will pay off all year long. Very inspiring overall. Learning a lot from you guys. :)
Cleanest pigs ever! Awesome job! Sweet garden too!
Happy for you guys. I’m from Northern California and I was thinking about how different it would be to raise pigs. I’d probably be afraid of them. Lol.
