    I cannot believe how much you can grow on so little land. I’ve always wanted to have land to garden and farm and everyone’s always told me I never will due to the expensive land I’d need. You guys make it look possible. Perhaps people don’t know what’s possible with a smaller plot of land. Love your passion, can’t wait for the next video!

    • @mrs.garcia6978

      The farm that makes the most per acre is a 1/8th acres in CA, grows high-value herbs and veggies. There's a bunch of videos of people turning their front yards into gardens that feed their entire family on here. You can do it!

      I killed my lawn several years ago and planted herbs, greens and I even have a Thai Chili that looks like it may give a third harvest.

      Over many years, people have been conditioned not to grow or to cook their own food. One of my friends converted an apartment closet into a vertical mini farm. Another converted a small apartment balcony into one. I was shocked how much food they were growing in such a tiny amount of space.
      If you don't have enough land outside, ask neighbors who do. They may let you farm on their land in exchange for some of the produce grown.

    • @akindofmagick
      @akindofmagick 4 года назад

      Honestly. All you need is a small (sunny) backyard to feed a family of three at least 8 months of food in zone 7. Dehydrate what you can’t eat, and you’ll have food all winter, too. I’ve been doing it for 5 years. Now I’m also growing microgreens in our (former) dining room, and we have year round fresh, nutrient dense greens for pennies. It’s amazing, and anyone can do it. Next: mushrooms!!! :)

    This video have inspired me to not dismiss future homestead sites with hills. Terraced gardens sound amazing and yours looks fantastic.

    • @Berkeloid0
      @Berkeloid0 4 года назад +1

      I'm looking for a homestead site specifically with large hills because of what you can do with them when it comes to managing water. Things like using solar power to pump water uphill during the day, and then having decent water pressure at night from gravity alone. Using swales to capture water and letting it soak into the hill where it is available for longer for plants to use, planting on the side of the hill so that excess water from the plants at the top just runs down to water plants lower down the hillside, etc. Not to mention all the extra health benefits you get from walking up and down slopes all day compared to flat land. Only problem for me seems to be finding a property with lots of hills on it! I'm in Australia and the majority of the land you can buy is relatively flat as it was historically allocated for farming. All the hilly areas were assigned to be national parks so you can't buy those!

    It's been fun and informative, to watch your garden grow and your critters multiply. I love lemon balm... just don't let it go to seed. I have so many that I dig them up and give them away or put them in the compost. Thank you for taking us along for the fun! Oh, and try some cedar shavings around your garden where the pests seem to be the worst.

    I just got a load of wood last week and have built 3 raised beds (4x8) and a “deck” to put buckets of potatoes on. I just need to put in the dirts that I have and can transplant my starters. I have enough wood for 3 more raised beds, but wanted to change things up so I’m preparing in stages. So much different than growing tomatoes in pots, I’m really looking forward to it. Only so much I can do in a suburban backyard, but I’m off to a good start. Thank you for sharing with us.
