    Learned a lot coming from my plastic fantastic d3500 (all I love about it is battery life, jpeg buffer and image quality). Can't wait to buy a d500

    I was using my D7100 and just picked up the new D500. It's the best Nikon I've purchased in the last 30 years! I like your ideas for saving battery power and custom setups. My wife loves hearing your voice every morning. giggle giggle...and will give them a try.

    Really helpful video. I especially like the advice about the multi-selector center button at zoom 100% and the playback using the front Function 1 button.

    Just picked up a like new D500 with grip on eBay (just 322 clicks!) and like new 17-55mm 2.8 with hood from the same seller! Spent $2100 for BOTH and I think I committed grand larceny! Your videos have been and continue to be valuable to me! They confirm and expand on what I've heard elsewhere about this body and lens combo! I'm coming from a D300 with kit and a couple primes to this and certainly the weight is something I will need to adjust to but I'm absolutely thrilled with the quality! Thank you for your very informative videos! I do agree that some opinions are more valuable than others and I value yours! Looking forward to Big Bend in October and hopefully some great Milky Way shots!

    Is nikon going to make a d500s in your opinion?

    How does face detection suck battery if it's only working while the meter is on? I'd treat it just as another metering mode.

    I have a Canon 50D and was going to upgrade to a 7D Mk II... but now, I'm going to get the Nikon D500. I mainly shoot motocross and supercross, so 10 fps + the focusing system + low light performance + weather sealing are the keys. I'm trying to keep my budget tight... so after viewing your videos on DX lenses, is the Nikkor 18 - 200 DX lens sharp enough/fast enough... or should I go with the 70 - 200 F4 (I was looking at the F4 for budget reasons as the F2.8 is too expensive right now)? Or should I look at the 80 - 200 F2.8 and a 35 F1.8 prime? Thank you for your reviews -- they are very helpful!

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  8 лет назад

      70 200 F4 is one hated lens (by me and many others).......its a slow pooper for a crazy high $$$$$$
      define "BUDGET"

    • @sheidbrink
      @sheidbrink 8 лет назад

      Good to know... I have not shot Nikon in over 35 years [back in the day, I shot all primes, no zooms]. I realize the world has changed.
      Here's my budget:
      D500 = $2K
      Grip = $400
      Lenses -- trying to keep around $1000 for now, but may be able to go to $1500
      I shoot more for fun, but sell images to magazines on occasion.

      Scott, if u haven't yet bought the D500, Nikon is currently running a Mother's Day sale and they throw in the grip for FREE! I just bought my D500 from Colonial Photo in Orlando on Friday, with their 16-80 f/2.4-4 kit lens and the battery grip was a freebie.

    i know this video is old but i hope you can answer my question... i used the sb910 (rented) on my nikon d500. now whenever i scroll through my photos in view finder and use the “info” button it applies the last setting to all of the photos instead of providing the “info” (settings) used on various photos. this seemed to have happened after using the flash on my camera. is there a way to set it back to showing the different settings used on your photos when i press the “info” button. for example if i do a test shot and its too bright i will change the settings and take another shot. in viewfinder the “info” shows both pictures with the same settings... help....

      Manual mode + Auto ISO + Spot metering - this is invaluable when shooting live music and light is constantly changing.

      Depends on the situation. I love it about 30% of the time (I shoot wildlife and astrophotography on a 130k actuation d3500)
