The one chord wonder! John Lee Hooker was all about the rhythm. Relentless. A completely original artist. Thanks for the clip at the beginning, just brilliant.
John Lee Hooker is not easy to play authentically. Just look at all the other RUclips teachers who can't really do it. They play a version of what they think it sort of sounds like but it's never got the real JLH groove or sound. Tom Feldman is the exception, he's on a whole other level. I've bought four of his courses and they're one of the best investments I ever made!
a lot of people dismiss Hooker's guitar work..but few can actually sound like him..Tom is one of them..excellent play through at the end...will be studying this one for a long while..thanks
You really succeeded with this lesson. The basis of what mr Hooker is doing is here and I really enjoy the openness for how to strum and so on. Most guitar players who play with their fingers are difficult to imitate when it comes to technique - but this was good! Thanks!
Boom Boom by John Lee Hooker Boom boom boom boom I'm gonna shoot you right down, right offa your feet Take you home with me, put you in my house Boom boom boom boom A-haw haw haw haw Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm I love to see you strut, up and down the floor When you talking to me, that baby talk I like it like that Whoa, yeah! Talk that talk, walk that walk When she walk that walk, and talk that talk, and whisper in my ear, tell me that you love me I love that talk When you talk like that, you knocks me out, right off of my feet Hoo hoo hoo Talk that talk, and walk that walk
Tom ... I use my acoustic nylon string ( parlor guitar ) 3/4 size guitar for this and I find it works very well for the Robert Johnson songs and makes all the bends flow so well.
you see what's the matter, I still don't play very well and therefore I understand alohor how you play with your right hand, could you make a video where you learn to play with your right hand in different ways?
The statements I made on RUclips I do about Joe Satriani Steve Vai Jeff back this guy I feel the same way he is one of my guitar Heroes and I really great person that I met in New York City he spent the time to show me a couple of things on the guitar still appreciative
Eric Burdon and The Animals recorded a great cover of Boom Boom Boom, John Lee dug it too. He made some records and didn't some concerts with Eric and the boys.
Wow ..... nice teachin’ ‘n playin’ smooth ‘n fast. As well ... the ‘freeform kinda bendy/chucka chucka/loosy-goosy nuances make it really get the feeling of JLH original
Nice lesson but I'm struggling to work out what your doing after the opening riff as you do two different base runs, you explain one then play another? And it would be nice to know what strings your hitting for those little flourishes in between....I know there's some individual style to add in but I'm a total beginner, just trying my best to copy what you do.
Just concentrate on the the main riffs and use the chugga percussion to keep tempo. When you're comfortable with the main body of the song it will be easier to understand the low parts. There's definitely a feel to it more than an exact notation.
Make it sing brother. I dig the no bullsh** method. You get to it. No talking for 7 minutes before the vid nonsense. Now you have all these JLH disciples out there.
I've never found the exact song the Animals used at the end of their version ("shaaake it baby") i just know it's not part of this. maybe they made it up?
Blind Meringue These men produce the best blues lessons I've ever seen. 720p is more then enough Meringue. Hell I watch in 240p and I can see perfectly. It's the content that matters and when it comes to the actual recordings they're transcriptions are on the money. I'm so thankful to have these videos. 🙏
Hi Trey, defo the best blues lessons, and this one is up there, I have no issues with the content. Only a short while ago the video quality was state of the art but I spend many hours trawling round youtube guitar lessons as I am retired and they need to upgrade in my opinion
Everything was good until you had me going crazy with the main riff bro totally used the first string when you wanted to show the basic riff. Had me going bonkers
Most people do not know the notes...including the original artist. The goal is to help as many folks as possible and it is more universal to say string/fret.
Instead of 3rd string, second fret stuff it would be a MUCH better lesson if you told the student what NOTES you are playing. Too fast and WAY TO HARD to follow.
Does not fully explain strum, and way too fast, also the tablature does not reflect exactly what he plays-this is particularly noticeable in first 6 minutes of lesson, an engaging presenter but just average teacher

Big fan of Tom Feldman. Have two of his dvds on Johnson and Skip James. Great teacher.

Long years been humming it in my head thinking how he played it and now i see

I,d love learn the song "I got the Key to the Highway by John Lee Hooker.

Cool Beans !
Fastest ever lesson
Awesome lesson, can we hear some Bieber sometime ?
You are singing over nothin but you can add the bass line with vocal E G A E
True, but better to leave it as nothing
Disappointed with the picture quality, not as good as many on youtube nowadays
Wonderful lesson! You're such great teachers! I've learned a lot watching you guys! Thanks a million! Have a beautiful day!

I think the idea is that this is a sample so you can decide if you want to buy the whole DVD lesson.
The best value at free. I suggest buying the whole lesson and enjoy it in 1040p
Everything was good until you had me going crazy with the main riff bro totally used the first string when you wanted to show the basic riff. Had me going bonkers
olaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

To fast I don’t know what you talking about
LOL, YOU COULD NOT THIS, LOL
I wish he was saying note names instead of "fourth string second fret" etc. Is this for folks who can't read notes or something?
Most people do not know the notes...including the original artist. The goal is to help as many folks as possible and it is more universal to say string/fret.
Instead of 3rd string, second fret stuff it would be a MUCH better lesson if you told the student what NOTES you are playing. Too fast and WAY TO HARD to follow.
So make your own damn video, Fn critic!
If you can't follow this go back to your Mel Bay song books...
Buy the DVD and get the sheet music and tab.
Thanks!
Oh please. Everybody's a damn critic. Just play shit blues artist never gave a shit bout no chord and lessons. Make your own video rick star.
too much talk. Just play it normal, then slow. No need to talk, as long as we can hear & see how its played.
Does not fully explain strum, and way too fast, also the tablature does not reflect exactly what he plays-this is particularly noticeable in first 6 minutes of lesson, an engaging presenter but just average teacher
TAB is not a running transcript of the entire video. It is taken from the last split screen segment where I play through the song slowly.
