Echidna was the only one who reacted outright negatively when Satella showed up at the witches tea party and she's the only one who said that the witch of envy killed all the other witches.
The veil that Satella is wearing is The Witch of Envy's Witch factor itself it Changes her personality Satella and the Witch of Envy are like two separate personalities Satella loves Subaru While the Witch of Envy Factor actually will kill anyone who loves Subaru
And we'll have Arc 5 about the value that he brings and 6 about who is "Subaru", man Re:zero isn't an anime, it's a flippin psychological thesis on the human psyche, it's insane
So something that is not explained in this episode is that when Subaru finds the witches(with the exception of echidna) talking so casually to satella he questions about how they could be talking like that when she’s the one who killed them, to which they reply that satella is different from the witch of envy and that there is a dual personality thing going on, they further continue to question him about his lack of knowledge about this topic saying that he should know about it since he is a sage candidate.
What? Why they don't put that in anime? I think its very important! I don't read the light novel but i have a theory that the witch of envy its Emília on the Future, she gain the Power of travel time and used to save Subaru from something and put themselves in a time paradox... How the light novel is going? The author already said their connection? I don't mind getting spoilers
@@edsonaugusto3552 Spoiler: As far as i have read (WEB novel and around half arc 7) there wasn't any extra explaination about this (as far as i remember ofc, has been some time). we got a few more piece of the puzzle at the end of arc 6 at the top of the Pleiades Watchtower (which btw the name SUBARU in japanese is equivalent to the name of the Pleiades constellation). there are a lot more of other similarities between stars and the re zero universe (another examples are the name of the arcbishop recalling the name of Stars. regulus, betelgues Etc). Wont say any other stuff hoping that next season will cover all the events in Arc 5/6 and answering a few of our questions)
@@edsonaugusto3552 my own theory:- I think Subaru is husband of satella and Subaru reincarnated into earth after his death that's why satella summon Subaru. But I don't find any connection with Emilia and satella. I think satella create Emilia for Subaru and Emilia is artificial soul☠️.
@@pushkarsingh5652 great theory, i Just can't see satella and emily as diferent persons, they are identical in every way. Thats why i think is time travel
So this is kinda long but worth reading. This is probably the episode that cuts out some of the most important context from this season. Firstly it gets mentioned in the source material that at one point satella took in an incompatible witch factor which in turn developed another side to herself. An alter ego that the world remembered as the witch of envy. This explains the inconsistency with satella’s personality. Like how she wants to help subaru but also screws him over a lot. This is also why all the witches are on guard and dont take action when she first arrives because they dont know if its satella or envy. Because surprisingly all the witches (except echidna) actually like satella. Also when giving a reason why she is so obsessed with subaru she says the following Satella: “I am in love with you. -Because you gave me light. Because you took me by the hand, and taught me the world outside. Because through nights where in solitude I shivered, you kept by my side with your hands around mine. Because, then being alone, by your kiss you told me I wasn't. There are so many things you've given to me. ...And so, I love you. Because you-you gave me everything.” Now personally I tried to read between the lines and came up with my own theory for what all this means but ill leave it to your interpretation.
@@Andrew_S1 subaru is the main villan of re zero, he was transported to the re zero wolrd 400 years ago and went down an evil path like as if it was one of the IF stories, he met satella and tried to use her for his own advantage and rizzed her up, but then one day someone killed subaru (maybe flugel the sage or reid or anyone for that matter), satella goes berserk and you know the rest..... except, subaru actually had a fail safe plan, he asked pandora to store his memories with her since who knows what would happen to him if he dies, now coming to present day, we see that satella found subaru and now he's back in this world, and thats the reason he has return by death, coz satella learnt her lesson 400 years ago and doesnt want the same thing to happen again. so now if subaru ever meets pandora, she's gonna restore his memories and he's gonna become the main villan of re zero, the main protagonist was rienhardt all along, the end..... thanks for tuning in to my ted talk (p.s. im not serious about this theory lol, i just wrote it for fun, and made up a wrong theory on purpose knowing that this would never actually be the real plot but it's somewhat cohesive since its meant to distract me from thinking about real theories
@@Andrew_S1 personally my theory takes into account that satella talks about Subaru like she truly knows him. So I think 400 years ago Subaru did exist in the rezero world, was lovers with satella, died somehow, reincarnated back on earth, and now satella thinks it's time for him to come back home and fulfill whatever his destiny is supposed to be.
more of like, roswaal noticed in season 1 that the future does not follow the Tome of wisdom (book). Once verified that subaru is the one that messing with the timeline of events, he takes initiative in season 2 to perfect subaru as a being who can only save 1 person and no one else atleast what I thought after watching the show.
13:05 "Is Subaru more part of this world then we realize?" Season 1 does actually hint at this. Buckle up this shit is about to get wild. There's a bit of a secret easter egg in season 1 that was noticed by some hardcore re:zero fans that study the anime frame by frame. Back in arc 2 when Ram was teaching Subaru how to read and write in their language, Subaru wrote on his paper "Natsuki Subaru on the scene!" in Japanese. You can see this in the anime. Ram even notices and calls them scribbles because she obviously can't read Japanese. But basically this "on the scene!" is another eccentricity attributed to Subaru being his nerdy eccentric self. Later in arc 3 when Subaru and Rem are at the base of the Flugel tree before the whale fight Subaru mentions that someone carved something into the tree. The anime briefly shows a glimpse of this carving, in Japanese it reads "Flugel on the scene!", in exactly the same fashion Subaru scribbled in his notes back in arc 2. Now here's the thing about the word Flugel, it's German for Wings. This doesn't mean much by itself but there's a short side story that takes place in the 2 month time skip that occurred between arc 2 and arc 3, basically the days of Subaru being the mansions butler before Felix was contacted by Emilia to heal his gate. Many anime watchers don't know this but there are a lot of cute slice of life side stories that take place during this 2 month time skip. For example the Memory Snow OVA where they made ice sculptures is an adaption of one of those short stories. One of these short stories is called "My Fair Bad Lady" and without spoiling anything it includes Subaru crossdressing. Turns out Subaru is a incredibly good at crossdressing, the anime hints this when back in the first loop of arc 2 the twins commented that some of the girls clothing would fit Subaru. Anyway, this crossdressing funnily enough is actually important. While Subaru was crossdressing for the occasion he had to have an alias, so he chose Natsumi Schwartz, with Schwartz being German for Black. What this means is that when Subaru chooses an alias cover name, he likes to use German words. Combine all this information and there's this crazy implication that Subaru is the one who planted the Flugel tree under the alias Flugel and carved into it "Flugel on the scene!". Presumably planting the tree specifically for the Whale fight. Then here you have Satella claiming Subaru saved her and gave her everything, very clearly implying a past connection between them. Basically you're asking the right question.
s1 also skipped the (major imo) conversation between subaru and Al which explains why he always calls him kyoudai. Natsumi Schwartz huh, best girl for a reason 😂
So this was for some reason not included in the anime but in the novels during the Satella scene, Satella said this to Subaru: "I... love you. Because you... gave me light. Because you took my hand, and you taught me about the world outside. Because... when I trembled on lonely nights, you never stopped holding my hand. Because when i felt lonely, you kissed me and said that i wasn't alone. You gave me so many things... That's why I love you. Because you... you gave me everything."
@@sonkokun6824 you gave me light -> subaru is the first that believed in her and befriended her / took my hand and showed me the outside world -> subaru did this from arc1 onwards / when i trembled on lonely nights you hold my hands-> little the next episode emilia is doing just that with subaru// when i felt all alone you showed me i wanst with a kiss -> 2 episodes from now this happens between subaru and emilia // i love you because you, you gave me everything -> arc6 events
@@doublehit9165 Nah it just shows how similar Emilia & Satella are thought process wise etc, hence why they are practically carbon copies despite centuries of interval between them
And this is why I believe Otto is best boi and best girl. All the other best girl candidates have empathetic backstories and motivations (and don’t get me wrong, I love them), but they generally make their issues Subaru’s issues or alternatively try to idolize him in some way. Otto is the only one who doesn’t slavishly put Subaru on a pedestal but is instead willing to call him out on his shit, to his face, without hesitation or sugarcoating. And he does this from a place of genuine care for Subaru. Unironically, Otto and Subaru is relationship goals.
an important line missed out in the anime, when satella arrives here, the witch on wrath, (the healing blondie) says, ""are you satella or the witch of envy?""also petition for luke to react to the re zero IF stories as well, pride, wrath, sloth and greed theyre absolutly amazing, all must watches fr, emilia and satella both exist at the same time, so it wont make sense if they were the same person you missed out one detail which was implied about three times during the tea party, that is.... the witch FACTORS, pay attention to that pls , also if you think the puzzle pieces are laid out, thats kinda true but the anime does cut out important stuff from the novels so do keep that in mind, we'll be glad to comment that for you over here lol
It’s honestly obvious that Satella isn’t Emilia, Satella kills Emilia in front of Subaru in season 1 so… so clearly separate individuals xD And yes as an anime only, you miss the clue about Satella being different from the witch of Envy, basically you got two personalities with Satella. I wish the anime explained that a bit more but it’s ok
@@diwigaming2088 All I know is, the witch of Envy is a separate personality from Satella, but Satella is the witch of Envy. I personally believe she showed up in episode 9 and 10 because Subaru invoked her too much while talking to Echidna. He was only able to tell Echidna about return by death because they were in the castle of dreams. When Subaru just mentioned returning to Emilia, Satella took Emilia out. When Subaru vented his ability to Echidna, she took everyone in the sanctuary out. Now as to why she loves Subaru, either A. Satella had some romantic connection to Flugel and Subaru is a reincarnation of Flugel, or Subaru saves Satella in the future and Satella isn’t bound by time, or perhaps in a prior timeline - something like that.
This isn't really a spoiler but read at your own risk The other witches heavily imply during this whole conversation that Satella and The Witch of Envy aren't the same person, in the light novel. So, the one who gave Subaru the Return-By-Death power is Satella and not the Witch
30:34 Remember when I commented in a previous episode that I think Subaru's "I'll save you" was directed at Emilia, not Satella? Well, I said it because it made the most sense, but this scene adds narrative reasons on top of that too. THIS, is him saying that same line to Satella herself, fully directed at her, and the contrast between it and that moment a couple episodes ago is exactly why it works so well. Again, just like then, he looks as Satella's face and says it. But when then he wasn't seeing her, and was instead seeing Emilia in her place, this time he's truly looking straight at Satella herself.
The most important detail from this whole season that was cut from the anime was supposed to happen this episode. It baffled novel readers to why it was excluded for no reason but the detail is the reveal that Satella and the Witch of Envy are NOT the same person. They're like two separate personalities within Satella's body. Apparently, Satella herself is a good girl, so despite losing their lives to her, all the other witches except for Echidna like her. This was a huge revelation, and it's unfortunate that it was left out for no reason.
To be fair, who knows if it cut. People are so quick to want to post ln or manga spoiler, that some of that stuff get placed later, to keep the story going. I've seen it in other anime and such.
As the guy above me said, I suspect it will be included later on. Perhaps the context here and a later chapter will merge for added drama and twist. In which case, I do look forward that episode if it happens 👀
@@galonski64 Indeed. I'm not willing to whine about "cuts" until: A) either the whole story's adapted and some content has been inarguably left out, or B) we've reached the last possible point where the adaptation could reveal a piece of info before having to move on to the rest, and it still hasn't happened. Obviously the original story is itself not finished so A isn't the case; and the nice thing about ReZero is that it's like a giant puzzle, where the information is often deliberately left vague, or given in an ambiguous manner, and where lots of bits and pieces are picked up throughout the story. Sometimes answers about a past chapter come in incredibly late, while earlier chapters give clues or outright answers about things that won't happen for a while. So this means that B can never exactly be applied here either, since it's always possible to play around with the way and the exact moments the information is presented.
@badwulff I also see it as a good reason to make read the ln or anime too. I been enjoying reincarnated sword after the anime. Still hope for a season 2, but the books been fun, even seeing new stuff the anime had to cut or change
@@galonski64 Oh hell yeah, reincarnated sword is an absolutely goated isekai. I really didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did (especially given the surface-level resemblance with Reborn as a Vending Machine, which I found rather mid), but the way the two leads interact is one of the best anime relationships I've seen so far.
Another important detail about Subaru's attempt at suicide during the meeting with the Witches: In both the novel and the manga we get to hear his thoughts on what Satella is saying to him, and just before he bites his tongue, a certain thought crosses his mind... Essentially, the way his conversation is going with Satella is eerily similar to how it is every time he himself tries to explain Return By Death to others... down to the result. Now, the rest is just my speculation, but maybe this Subaru is different from the Subaru Satella met originally in the same sense that the current Emilia is different from the one Subaru met on his very first loop (meaning, they remember their original deeds, even if the others don't know the reason). This theory is supported by how Emilia always asks Subaru why he risks himself for her. Maybe Satella's relationship with Subaru is the same as his with Emilia, only her circumstances don't allow for her to reach him save on moments like this. Thus, because Satella tried to tell him something that belonged to a different loop (of hers), the backlash of her Authority, her skill, made Subaru kill himself, but the others interpreted it as Subaru killing himself to escape an unwanted reality.
Since everyone is only talking about Satella not being the same as the Witch, here's a few different Things: 1. Perfect Subaru Analysis as to why he doesn't ask for Help. You understand him very well! 2. Yes, so the Counterpoint to "I can return if I die, others can't" is that Satella only wants him to *survive* by Reviving, as a Backup. Ideally he doesn't die in the first Place, so he should strive for the Result that everyone's happy with, which includes working with others and potentially putting them at Risk. 3. It's not "Return *to* Death", it's "Return *by* Death". 4. Echidna took his Qualifications because he denied her the Deal. Yes she wanted to help him, but she also noted how greedy he was to want to solve everything by himself, without her Help. Gaining the Qualification for the Trial *was* Part of her Help, so it's like: "If you deny my Wish and don't want my Assistance, good Luck getting to your Goal!" 5. Roswaal is not the Master of the Mabeasts or anything like that. It is now revealed that he was behind all the Shit that went down earlier _(think back to the Theft at the Beginning, the Bowel *Hunter*, or the blank Letter)_, but Mabeasts work differently. They are *created* by the Witch and attracted to her Scent, but they are shown to be controlled by one of the Assassins, not Roswaal. 6. The Witch of Envy is not dead/defeated afaik. 7. Does Satella resemble Emilia? Or does Emilia rather resemble Satella? 8. I have to disagree, I don't think Lunatic Emilia is very comparable to Satella. I think that's a bit farfetched, Satella doesn't really seem insane at all. 9. So Demon Slayer was confirmed? I hope we see Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2 first though!
Fun fact: The "Witch of Envy" and "Satella" are two different personalities. Satella is the kinder personality that we met in Witch Party, and Witch of Envy is that psychotic personality that is deeply obsessed with Subaru.
And that’s the first half of Season 2 done. Now the set up is done, now it’s time for the fun part. Where this first half was Subaru learning to love himself and setting up all the parts of the sanctuary arc, the second half will be actually doing something with all that, and making everyone a gigachad. And of course day 14 (2 weeks already) of requesting Luke react to the original songs of the new Phase Connect generation.
I wonder if there is a hidden first loop. Subaru was transported to this world, saved Satella, something happened, then Satella went back in time and gave him the power. Since it was Satella who went back in time first time, Subaru can't remember that first loop.
This surely happened, but I imagine the first loop was extraordinarily long because the only way to prevent the outcome was to go back very far. It was also probably necessary to grant Subaru the Return by Death ability...
There almost certainly will be a Stein's Gate like episode 23/ episode 1 parallel for that first loop when the story decides they want to start solving mysteries instead of constantly expanding the world building and cast. But the actual Satella line implies they had a relationship and not a short one either. Here's what she said in the novels: "I, love you ――Because you gave me light. It was you who took me by the hand, and showed me how beautiful the outside world is. At night when I was lonely and afraid, you always held my hand and never let go. And when I was all alone, you kissed me on the lips and told me that I wasn’t alone. You’ve given me so, so much. ……That’s why, I love you. Because you… you gave me everything."
It's easier to imagine he was convoked (isekaid by a truck leaving the store) as hero (flugel) then after send back or dying subaru was time meddled to come alive and without other cheats than the authority of envy.
I think that this theory could also be plausible because the power to remove and return memories has already been shown, by echidna, so it’s possible that Satella maybe used this power as well
Well yes, Rem is supposed to be gone but not by her will. There was just no way of saving her, which is why the checkpoint was updated. Even if they would have made it in time, Ley and Regulus are just too strong for any of the members present at that time. So, what we got was the best possible outcome with the least amount and least severe sacrifices.
One thing which makes your reactions more enjoyable than in other channels is the way you're very careful to not miss anything, rewinding a dialogue you missed if necessary. Keep going, I like your style.
Also another thing that we only know by Extra material (and an Isekai Quartet movie and promotional material) is that long ago, there was a certain group of famous characters in the Re:Zero world that used to travel together (like an adventuring party). Amongs them was, Reid Astrea, the first Sword saint and ancestor of Reinhard, Farsale Lugnica, the first king of Lugnica, Alec Hoshin, the founder of Kararagi, SATELLA AND ECHIDNA BOTH and a last member called Flugel that we know very little about and that most of his accomplishments have been lost to history.
So funny because suddenly I realize that we asked the same question as to why Satella love Subaru so much is pretty much how Emilia feels towards Subaru, Yes Emilia save him when he got beat up by some thugs, but to Emilia it never happen because She never have that experiences after Subaru multiple attempt of RBD, yet we and Subaru in cosine are as clueless as it is because only Satella understand what good thing he done in whatever time or life he has with Satella that make her really love Subaru, you see how Emilia situation with Subaru resembling how Subaru situation with Satella, that for whatever unknown reason Satella just love Subaru. Like how ironic this perspective lol
This has been commented a couple of times but I thought I would post the cut excerpt with Satella verbatim from the web novel translation because I thought Subaru's reaction is also very interesting: Satella: “I am in love with you. Because you-you gave me everything.” Subaru: “-” Subaru has not a single memory of any involvement in any part of Satella's whisperings. He isn't part of it, doesn’t know any of it. He has never met Satella, never spoken with her, never overlaid his warmth with hers. Everything she is talking about is the fruits of her delusion. This woman insane with sentiment had lined up empty daydreams where she simply watched a fantasy of Subaru. Is what this should be, but NATSUKI SUBARU does know this. Subaru: “Why're this... inside me, what is this? I don't want to feel this. Don't tether me with, non- existent memories... I... I damn... I goddamn...” Hate you, is all he has to say. All he has to do is stab the one giving him their feelings with the announcement that he held not a single speck of fondness for her. Then would be spectating just what expression the one egotistically trying to distort his emotions would make. Bet the pain to her heart would have her face twisting magnificently. -How are you capable of doing that to her? (After this Subaru bites his tongue). This really added to the "Subaru and Satella have a past together, but Subaru lacks the memories" theory. The particular form of which may still be up for further debate.
I adore Otto, he's such a good character when he's not in his "everyone ignores him" gag because he's an absolute BRO! And while I don't think Subaru deserves ANY of the crap he gets, be it the situations he's in, his attitude toward others, his lack of questioning things, or even the fans hating him for his realistic personality. He needed to get checked by someone for how much he relies on himself. Like yeah there's not much he can say due to the curse but if you pay attention early series, he at least TRIED to get allies and revealed SOME of the things he knows, meanwhile this season he's been trying almost entirely on his own. Heck he's even gone as far as to using loops entirely for info without trying to change anything. He's somewhat already been on his way to becoming the tool Rosewall wants, but the easy solution would be for him to act like how he used to. Use his info to his advantage, trust others to do the heavy lifting when he knows he can't, gain alliances (which he's ignorant of the ones he already has due to his self worth issues). Kinda sad to think about how this season started off so happyish with Subaru getting closure with his parents and past life problems only to be hit with the equivalent of having to stop a nuke in his present day problems.
In case you didn't notice... The witches seem very FRIENDLY with SATELLA, but they were UnFRIENDLY when they talked about the WITCH OF ENVY... That's kinda important...
you know what also funny, remember when Subaru talk sh1t to Emilia in season 1 after Subaru fight with Julius because of his pride and selfishness on Emilia? yeah that's also episode 13 of season 1 and now we see him talk sh1t to the witches specificaly to Satella in episode 13 of season 2 but with better outcome. Idk if it's true but they definitely purposely put the episode on the same number just for this situation resembling each other lol
Important note of S2 Ep 13 S2 ep 12 and 13 is the checkpoint/turning of GREED IF story Small summary of GREED IF is . It shows what will happen if Subaru accepts Echinda Contract
I’d say you should have Demon Slayer, Overlord & Vinland Saga in the Poll It hasn’t been explained in the anime but Satella and the witch of envy are 2 different personality Satella couldn’t adapt to the envy with factor this why she has a split personality the one who devoured the world and grabs Subarus heart is the envy persona 1:24 That’s the witches miasma the stuff everyone is smelling on Subaru 4:29 I wouldn’t say so because Satella is showing a clear concern for Subarus wellbeing. Crazy Emilia completely disregarded Subaru being injured to the point where he bleed to death in her lap 8:09 Btw since this world is within the mind and mental injuries remain outside of return by death Subaru would’ve really died if Minerva didn’t heal him there. That’s how few up he was with everyone and everything 9:19 Besides the spilt personality always remember history is written by the victor 11:02 they didn’t interfere because they respected Subarus decision before Minerva would’ve healed him without him wanting her to do so but now he realized that he actually wants to live so they let her 13:03 Maybe but Echidna also said Subarus return by death is caused by the witches delusion 24:43 Garfiel attempted the 1st trial but he never passed it 27:03 The face paint is to show that Roswaal is in character, you might’ve not noticed it but he stopped speaking sing songy as well and started telling Subaru his true objective it also a sign that he lost hope in the current loop 28:58 You will find out whenever yes or no this season still so I’ll fill you in by the time the episode comes because it got cut in the anime just how involved Roswaal was in everything starting from episode 1 32:04 Roswaal knew Subaru would restart if he killed Ram so that instance it didn’t matter 38:33 Also nice parallels to episode 13 of season 1 when Subaru and Emilia were arguing and Emilia didn’t understand how she did all these amazing things for Subarus and only he remembered because these things happened in dead timelines and now Subaru isn’t understanding how he supposedly did anything for Satella
Thats the great thing about Re Zero. It gives you answers to your questions but at the same time it gives you 3 more questions than you had before. So you are slowly making progress and connecting the dots, but there appear just so many more dots that need connecting again. One thing that got cut from the anime this episode compared to the novels could help to give you atleast one puzzle piece to make things clearer. Satella and the Witch of Envy are NOT the same. How the start of this episode played out in the Novels is that when Satella appeared the Witches all reacted differently and Subaru wanted the other witches to kill her. Echidna said she would love to but she doesnt want to make enemies of the other witches. Subaru was really confused about why they would not want to kill Satella when she was the one that killed all of them. Here are some direct lines out of the novels which take part at the start of the episode to confirm this: Camilla: “That ENVY is... is, e-everyone's foe, is... is right, but, t-that... thing and her, are... ddifferent, cases... mm?” Subaru: “...I don't understand what you're saying. What're all of you...” Sekhmet: “So long as we don't know which one that thing standing there is-huu-more than us being unwilling to act, to do so'd be unreasonable-haa.” Subaru: “Which one?” Minerva: “-Are you the WITCH OF ENVY? Or are you Satella? Which?” Then some more informations happened and this line was said: Minerva: “See, look. She knew there wasn't any need to dodge my punch, that's Satella, not the WITCH OF ENVY. Echidna, your caution's pointless.”
39:35 this is realy complex show and a lot of stuff like explanation why witches arent angry on Satela were cut, so its really understandable if you dont get whats going on exectly, but i must say you understand it better than most, so only thing that people might get angy is how you pronounces Echidnas name 😅🤣
One really interesting thing in this episode is that Typhon and Daphne both seem to genuinely just like Satella, and Minerva was kinda taking her side too. In fact, Echidna was the only witch who was even hostile to her at all, and it seemed to be far more about her nature and personality than about some event in the past, at least judging from comments like Echidna saying she wouldn't even want to know what goes through Satella's head (which is a pretty big deal for someone who claims to want to know everything). That's very curious considering that we heard she was the one who killed them, and it's even more so when you realize Echidna specifically painted her in a worst light when listing the witches in episode 3, calling her "the worst of them all", and saying herself that she killed all the others. And couple that with Echidna confirming Daphne was the one who created the Mabeasts, which we were told were made by Satella, and it really starts to sound like history isn't just inaccurate, but maybe even fabricated specifically to make her look bad.
Its what I love about this show and the treatment of Subaru's character so much. The trauma he's experienced, the self loathing he's felt about himself for so long (before he even came to this world), the tough fronts and fake smiles and laughs, the hidden suffering, the emotional outbursts... all of it isn't not gonna go away so easily. He will keep moving forward but he still needs to consistently work on his self love and keep himself in check to ensure he won't fall back into those old habits and toxic mentality again. The same way an alcoholic or drug addict will need to keep themselves in check to ensure they won't fall back into their harmful vices again. Alot of people have wondered, why are we still on this topic of self love and worthlessness. Shouldn't Subaru have learnt this from Rem back in season 1. Yes, he did. But all it did was help him get back on his feet to keep fighting. Expecting ONE pep talk to wipe away all those deep rooted feelings he's had about himself is ignorant and arrogant. Its the same mindset as thinking "oh, you're seriously deeply depressed? Just be happy! That will improve your self worth, right. I have the power to say all these happy words full of love to you. That will definitely solve all your internal issues." This episode for example. Subaru just got the greatest therapy session on self love from the witches. And yet, just as easily... all that progress had the potential to fall apart again after the confrontation from Roswaal. He fell back into despair, blamed himself and was about to go back into his shell of "doing it all himself." Until Otto (the goat) literally punched some sense into him telling him to stop putting on that tough front and just ask for help from his friends!
this season of re zero covers arc 4 of the novels, and we already got introduced to the most legendary characters in existence.... the witches and the archbishops and add reinhard coz he's op af, imagine what crazy stuff goes down in the other 8 (so far) arcs, re zero will have 11 arcs in total
Summertime Rendering was my favorite new show of 2022 and its finished unlike Demon Slayer or Overlord. Another pick even though it's unlikely to win a poll due to the RUclips audience not liking SOL is Hyouka. Which IMO is Kyoani's magnum opus.
One nice detail is that when Subaru takes the hand of Satella he says the same line that he said back in episode 1 season 1 when taking Emilia's hand. "I swear, I'm going to save you"
I love the witches, they all behave so differently, they all have different values, perceptions of reality yet can agree on many things. They are able to "coexist" casually in this reality because there is nothing they can do to affect the real world or their circumstances. They are supposed to be "unable to be comprehended" but that is only if you retain everything that makes you "human" like emotions, values, empathy, etc. Echidna wants to know, see or experience everything the world has to offer and for that she was willing to act without understanding how hurting others was "bad". To her, it's all information she treasures dearly for the sake of knowing. Minerva was angry at the world for its "injustice" because her reasoning is that everyone deserves to be happy, she can't look away from "injustice" but her actions on the things she can see affect parts of the world she can't see. She still hurts people in the world but she has to priorize what she can change in front of her eyes. Typhon has a polarized way of judging, If you are "bad" you shall feel pain, if you feel guilty you should get the punishment you think you deserve, if you are good you shall be saved from suffering and such. She acts like a child who was given the authority of a judge. Daphne wants to save the world from starvation but also give the "food" a winning chance which ended up being overwhelming. But that's "fair" for her. Carmilla wanted to help Subaru by reminding him of the people that love him by impersonating someone, something that could be seen as disrecpectful by others but not to her because helping others through love must be right. Sekhmet was chill, lol I don't know enought about her. And Satella truly loved Subaru in a similar way he loves Emilia, madly and in a confusing way, because both understand but the reciprocant doesn't.
I don't know if anyone has suggested this but I wonder if you'd ever look into Fruits Basket? (2019, 2020, 2021 reboot version). It can be quite silly at times with the whole Chinese Zodiac shenanigans and high school aged setting & comedy aspects but it also addresses heavy real life concerns such as abuse & neglect, depression, death and recovering from trauma. Probably one of the only series that made me quite emotional, and I barely cry for anything😅 Synopsis: After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out... into a tent! Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn't long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own--when hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac! But this curse has a history of abuse, isolation, ostracization, fear, and pain behind it; which has caused much suffering and broken many Sohmas. Despite this, Tohru may just be able to heal the Sohmas hearts and soothe their souls, and even break the curse once and for all. It has a 4.9 rating on google-- 8.6/10 on IMDb-- and 9/10 on MyAnimeList

What I like about the witches is their worldview is fundamentally based on their respective "sin" but it doesn't follow as is traditional that that perspective is negative. Both the Echidna and Subaru are fundamentally opposed in their emotional outlook on the world around them and yet either would not look out of place if they had the witch of Greed position. And how the Witch of Wrath is passionately wrathful in her desire to heal others and not allow them to die in her presence.
one thing about the parallel worlds theory.. people forget that if parallel worlds exist with different subaru deaths in each one.... wouldnt there also be a satella for each paralle world? and do you think satella would let subaru die permanently? (not in the if stories obviously, in the main route) so parallel worlds, if they exist, wouldnt matter , coz subaru would still never end up dying and each subaru will do the exact same thing as our subaru
@@sorakirisaki5330 Good shit, I'm tired of all the nihilists that try to spread the gospel of dimension hopping theory in the story. I have serious gaps in my understanding due to skipping arc 5-7 since I want fresh experience when the new season comes, and it's always annoying when these folks come and spout shite simply because the second trial applies differently for Subaru.
@@SilverYPheonix the parallel worlds theory defenders are kinda dumb imo, echidna was obviously trying to force subaru into making a contract with her, so she was being very ambiguous about the whole thing, plus she was cherry picking what to show people and decided to do that the subaru all coz she wants his ability
В аниме это пропустили, но в ранобэ именно на моменте этой серии автор сделал особый акцент на том, что Сателла и ведьма зависти - это 2 разные личности
You are a very honest person. I can tell that you have a lot of thought and love for your work. It is no wonder that the channel is becoming so popular so rapidly. As someone who has been watching you since the early days, I am happy to see it. I will continue to support you. From Japan.
The reason why Roswaal cleaned his makeup it's a metaphor of him dropping the act and stop performing, from that moment he was being serious, you can notice because also his way to speak changes, leaving the piero (clown) behind.
Oh yeah...the episode where the Witches of Sin interact with each other and Subaru....love it. Witches of Sin are not directly evil. And they are mostly friendly with each other and can sometimes provide small favors to each other or even help if their goals and opinions converge. But the Witches of Sin are not a coherent group. Once their opinions and desires diverge (as with Subaru, for example), they will not hesitate to use force against each other. They are quite a volatile group. But there is one thing that unites them all. They are all witches and they consider each other equals. However, they don't think about people that way. Do you remember how Daphne said to Subaru “if you think that a mere human can do this, then go ahead and try it”. The biggest shock for me, of course, was Satella. I didn't think she would be so... caring and kind. I thought she would be the only one evil and truly crazy, but as it turns out, this is not the case. Her interactions with Subaru are the strangest because...she speaks as if she has known him for a long time. But neither we nor Subaru have any knowledge about this. My guess is either some kind of time manipulation, or an oath that erases memory... one of these.
cut from Subaru crying on the ground: The Witch of Pride, seeking to pass judgment upon the one who made the young boy cry. The Witch of Wrath, clenching her fists, wishing that the feelings of the close friend at her side would bear fruit. The Witch of Sloth, paying heed to everyone’s movements, languidly prepared to instantly attack if anything should happen. The Witch of Lust, keeping her uninvolved demeanor, ready to protect herself should the matters escalate in a flash. The Witch of Gluttony, having already lost interest in what was happening around her, now agonizing over whose fingers to munch on to best stave off her hunger. The Witch of Greed, directing her hostility toward one Witch in particular, while her eyes went on brimming with curiosity at just how this tea party shall unfold. And, the one who was not the Witch of Envy, but Satella―― Satella: “I, love you―― Because you gave me light. It was you who took me by the hand and showed me the world outside. In the nights when I was lonely and afraid, you stayed by my side with your hands around mine. And when I was all alone, you kissed me on the lips and told me that I wasn’t. You’ve given me so, so much… That’s why, I love you. Because you… you gave me everything.” Subaru: “――――” Subaru couldn’t recall doing a single thing that Satella had whispered. He had no part in it, it had nothing to do with him. Whether it was meeting Satella, trading words with her, or sharing a single feeling of warmth. Everything she is talking about is the fruits of her delusion. This woman insane with sentiment had lined up empty daydreams where she simply watched a fantasy of Subaru. That was how it should be. And yet, Natsuki Subaru remembered. Subaru: “Why is this… inside me, what is this? I don’t want this feeling. Don’t try to bind me… with memories that can’t exist… you… you… I… Hk.” “I hate you”, was all he needed to say. All he had to do was stab the girl who offered him these feelings with the fact that he didn’t have the slightest affection for her. Once he does, he would be able to see the look on the face of the one who had selfishly sought to warp his heart. Surely, it would be an expression magnificently twisted by heartbreak. ――But, how are you even capable of doing that to her?
youre right, there is way more than what we've been told. i love that youre already getting curious about subaru's connection to this world, im really excited to see how you feel about season 3!
I'm so glad you are enjoying this anime & I love your reactions to it all, Luke! It really gets you invested and wanting to know more about each character even the Witches doesn't it! 😁
Remember alternate realities is one of the options how the trial interpreted how return by death might work. What if the other more simply solution truly is the power to work on the flow of time.
If you want to see more interactions between the witches and get a glimpse behind the scenes, there is a short interlude chapter that takes place right after Subaru leaves the tea party with Satella. This chapter has been omitted, but it contains some pretty important information that you might want to know. It is safe to read, because it is an info you are supposed to know by this time. It talks about the characters of the witches, especially Echidna. It will raise a lot of questions in your head and make you reevaluate everything you've seen so far. If you would like to read it(it is a small chapter) here is the chapter(comment will be in 2 parts) : Arc 4 Interlude II: "The Guests have left" Sekhmet: "Letting him go like that, huh. Was it okay, huh?" Echidna: "It was his decision, his choice. I want to respect that. But I can't help feeling conflicted about him taking her hand and leaving holding that Thing’s hand" In response to Sekhmet's languid voice, Echidna shrugs her shoulders on the spot. They are still in the Castle of Dreams, with no change in the grassy fields and blue sky. The cool breeze blew through, gently stroking the witches' hair. The fractured world swallowed Subaru and Satella, and released them from the dream. Soon after, the world was repaired again. Naturally. The space connected to Echidna's soul, which cannot be destroyed, will maintain this state as long as Echidna exists. It was only an extravagant performance to drive away the departing guests. Echidna: “However, I can't help but feel tired when you use it so much. It would be helpful if you could run around treating people with a little more moderation” Minerva: “I only heal wounds that are within my reach, according to my own way of doing things. I don't discriminate between humans, witches, animals, birds, fish, insects, or magical beasts. The wounds of living things are my enemies!" Echidna: "Even so, the burden of your actions here comes to me, unlike when you were alive. When you were alive, the World was shouldering the burden, so can't you imagine how hard it is when such a burden falls on me alone?" Minerva: "I don't care about fatigue or things that can't be seen. I heal wounds. I don't care if the world's lifespan shortens or not” The witches sighed as Minerva crossed her arms and emphasized her voluptuous chest with her declaration. Minerva, the Witch of Wrath, is often seen as the most approachable, or even harmless of the seven witches who bear the names of the seven deadly sins. In fact, all of her actions are nothing but healing, and it is likely that the number of lives saved by her hand in the world at that time would not be contained in the five digits. However, it was also Minerva who indirectly caused the same amount of damage. All destructive energy, such as punching, kicking, and biting, is converted into healing energy if it is emitted from her hand. This ritual is not something that anyone other than her can imitate, because it is the authority of [Wrath]. Even Echidna cannot reproduce it, even if she understands the structure. Minerva's healing blows keep all living things away from threats that threaten their lives. It seems like a kind of omnipotent authority, but it is a mistake. The healing power of her fist is the result of a powerful ritual that twists causality, and it consumes a tremendous amount of mana every time it is activated. It is a quantity that is not possible for a single human to afford, and even with Minerva's magical aptitude as a witch, it is impossible. Then, where does her blow takes mana from? The answer is simple: it takes it from the core of the world. Normally, when humans use magic, they absorb mana from the atmosphere through a gate, convert it into magical energy, and then release it from the gate again. In Minerva's case, the gate is not connected to the atmosphere, but directly to the core of the world. It's hard to express what the core of the world is, but it is essentially a huge collection of supernatural mana, or in other words, the place where mana is born. Minerva's blows extract mana from it and convert it into healing blows. However, repeating this process can lead to an event where the mana that should be supplied to the original location is not distributed, causing a dangerous depletion of mana, which is a vital component of the world, in areas that are not reached. This can trigger disasters and natural calamities. The number of people she directly healed by punching is over five digits. However, the number of people who died in the natural disasters she indirectly caused is also comparable. Therefore, the Witch of Wrath, Minerva, was considered the most dangerous of the seven witches with the names of the seven deadly sins, and is regarded with hostility by all nations. Minerva: “Here, the mana I can draw out is only the amount that Echidna has. You can't heal or cure more than what's needed before you become parched, so I'm not satisfied" Echidna: "In the first place, there should be no reason for injuries to occur here. It's just that it was too noisy here for a while, and it almost caused a misunderstanding" Minerva: "Yes... It's been noisy for a while, hasn't it?" Minerva's momentum is dampened by Echidna's words. She has an understandable look of discouragement on her cute face as she looks up at the blue sky with her blonde hair and said, Minerva: " Do you think he can handle it? I'm really worried” Echidna: “My hands, which should have been able to handle it without a doubt, were rejected. In any case, he should be scrambling to make it work. It seems that he hasn't found the answer yet, though" Minerva: "What's with that way of saying it? You led him to brush off your hand yourself, and you're trying to hide your true intentions from us, even though we know the truth? It doesn't make any sense!" Echidna: "I didn't mean to be rejected. It's just that I would have been fine either way, whether he rejected me or accepted me." In response to Minerva, who was scowling, Echidna sat down at the table she had re-created. Then, she snapped her fingers to create a teacup and tilted it to her lips. Echidna: "I affirm choices and the results of choices. I don't think the results matter much. The fact that he chose, or the fact that he didn't choose, either one is important. I am proud to say that I am a person who can enjoy either outcome, good or bad" Daphne: "But... that doesn't mean you don't have any preference, does it? " A black-painted coffin slowly lined up next to Echidna, who was sipping her tea. Daphne, who had somehow returned to the coffin, was greedily devouring the tea cakes on the table like a dog. Daphne: "You say you respect the results, but you don't hesitate to lead to the results you want, don't you, Dona-Dona? It is true that it was okay either way, but isn't it also true that you were glad that it turned out this way?" Echidna: "You're a child who doesn't care about others, but you always hit the nail on the head, Daphne" Daphne: "It's just that compared to the hunger that has been bothering Daphne all the time, it's not worth thinking about. Haa haa, fumofumo" As Daphne ate past the tea cakes and started chewing on the plates, Echidna sighed and looked at the other witches who began to sit down at the remaining seats. Lazily, with undisguised anger, and with a look of trepidation on their face――and with a particularly stern look in their eyes, she was the only one
Satella and Witch of Envy are actually not the same entity. Satella is a silver haired half-elf. And Witch of Envy is the Witch. You can think of it as split personality or maybe even possession. So it's actually ironic, how everyone is hating Satella as the Witch of Envy. They are ignorant. Sort of similar to how they hate Emilia. Also, about the theory, that it's a possession, you can go back to Cult Attack and how Emilia was tried to see, if she's a worthy vessel for the Witch. That Witch in that case would not be Satella, but the entity that is the Witch of Envy. This is kind of a speculation though. There's also a possibility that Satella is dead, but the one who is sealed is the entity, that is Witch of Envy. That also explains, how she couldn't be killed. She's immaterial. And that's also why Witch Cult might search for a worthy vessel to house her. And Emilia unfortunately seems to have uncanny high affinity for the Witch.
13:00 there's no way around this without spoilers so i'll be as blunt as possible; yes. throughout the series, Subaru has been heavily implied to be similar to someone from the past in this world.
One thing to bear in mind is that dialogue in re zero isn't intended to be 100% realistic, it's often used to show parallels between characters so that someone using the same lines DOESN'T give evidence for things like Emilia and Satella's connection. But on the other hand sometimes their speech quirks DO give evidence for it. Or something similar, like how Subaru laughed like Petelgeuse in ep 15 and literally WAS Petelgeuse.
So basically because re zero includes time loops people think it's obvious that the evidence points to a big time loop scenario. But there's a different trope which is very widely used in fantasy which is repeating or learning from the mistakes of the previous generations. I know it's really up in the air with Satella but I just think she's followed a similar path to Emilia, to a point, and Emilia's changes resemble Satella because it's about how she could turn out emotionally rather than literally(since, you know, the witch of envy is alive right now and Subaru seemingly has her envy witch factor which is a mystery you haven't spotted perhaps!). Spoilers for season 2 and some arc 6 bits: From what we hear briefly through Volcanica, Satella was loved and revered by everyone close to her. The world wasn't free of hatred of elves then either, but just as Emilia's family and village all treated her well Satella was presumably pretty well regarded with the people she actually saw. So considering Emilia's current struggles come from a past when she was locked up, isolated, loved and kept ignorant of anything which could harm her only to have them all sacrificing themselves for her sake, and this arc is going AGAINST that pattern of the people around her, I feel like it makes the most sense that Satella never managed to handle the witch factor because she was coddled, idealised, and so never learned how to handle the challenges she faced on an emotional level. Even the witches' behaviour fits this, Minerva who was her closest friend does nothing but take her side the entire conversation and I think you can read it as kind of toxic. It's why she shows basically zero consideration for Subaru while saying he should be more grateful, she just loves Satella that much. Even though Satella herself doesn't look like she doesn't blame herself for his struuggling(I mean it's Satella's hand which is trying to comfort him while torturing him with talking about rbd after all). Both Emilia and Satella were supposed to be people who are kind to a fault, virtuous and as a result Satella was incompatible with the envy witch factor creating the witch of envy. But Emilia hasn't been given a witch factor yet, and is being made to face her challenges, instead of remaining pure and innocent without needing to. So what's needed to stop things from repeating is to avoid Emilia going down Satella's path metaphorically, not literally.
and yes i think that somewhat Emilia is (not in the past) of which the Witch of Envy is now. But the other way around. Emilia is the future of the Witch of Envy.
As others have stated they cut out some of the lines and context. The Witches all generally like and interact with each other but Satella had a split personality. Also, Echidna removed Subaru's approval to undergo the trials as a means to force him to take the contract because she's greedy and still wants access to his Return by Death ability. But what this episode really is and why it's so important is it tells us something about Subaru that's always been there since episode 1. He doesn't love himself or care for himself. He started the series winding up isekai'd into this world only to find out he's got nothing. Then he learns he returns by death and throws himself head first into using it without a second thought to his own safety only thinking about helping those around him. Even when Rem confesses to him he works to try and live up to her beliefs not really thinking he's worthy of love. It's clear Subaru's desperate for love and a reason to exist. Since he's got the ability to RbD he's done nothing but sacrifice himself for others. It's why I liked Satella telling him why she gave him the power. She wants him to learn to love himself and use that power to protect himself (not necessarily others). Now for Roswaal I don't think you noticed how his eyes changed. If you go back and look his eyes have always been a kind of violet or ruby color. Except when he's conversing with Subaru his eyes change to a yellow color with lizard like pupils. If you look back to season 1 when he mentions his goal is to kill the dragon that protects the country then in this when he says he's lived for 400 years it's safe to assume he's either a dragon himself or maybe a dragon like cultist (note, this is my own theory). He's trying to force Subaru into becoming a tool for himself to carry out his plan. My own theory regarding what will happen going forward (only read the manga which isn't that much further ahead then this episode) is that Subaru is sent back into the past by either Satella or The Witch of Envy and he might be the one who actually "kills" her in the past. Given the statements of the other Apostles/Servants of the Witches it seems they want to revive Satella/WoE using Emilia. Given Emilia's own past it's reasonable to assume she was a mechanism for the WoE to revive herself except it didn't work right. So you've got a clone of the WoE/Satella just waiting for the correct soul to take over.

.... can people preface from where they get their information? Because that's clearly from the Web Novel. (Whoever decided to put the name of who is speaking before they start to talk-and everyone else copying it too come to think of it-should just stop it when it's either one or two person talking, like seriously, it only starts becoming hard when 3 or more people are talking.)
Subaru was given the ability to Return by Death by the Witch of Envy. If she can give that ability to Subaru what is to say that she herself does not have a similar ability to go back in time. It is my theory as this has not been revealed at all that when the witch of Envy talks about Subaru saving her she is talking about something he does in the future and essentially she brought him over and gave him the ability because she knows he will save her with her own time/return powers.
Nice idea but can you also provide the information when which IF story is saved to read. If I remember correctly, some IF stories are better read after Arc 5 to avoid spoilers. Unfortunately I can't find the information about this right now.
Prob (?) SPOILER One thing it was cut in this episode was: Satella and the Witch of Envy aren't the same person. When Satella took the Witch Factor of Envy, her personality split in two for her wasn't compatible with the sin. Envy wants to keep Subaru with ultimate jealousy, Satella wants Subaru loves himself more.
@@RenderingUser Ok, I will. Anyway, I don't remember any mention of that after the arc 4 (in web novel, I mean). I think the only chance is if whitefox will make an other director's cut and add it there.
I appreciate people who know what's like to be in someone else's shooes. It's easy to guide someone, it's easy to say the rational thing to do in any situation but depends on the person how they see it. Just like Mushoku Tensei, even going outside was a big deal. Someone without traumas in their mind, would find that funny
Like many have said to you in the comments, there is cut content from the witches implying that Satella and the Witch of Envy are two different personas. The readers have many theories and among them, there is one about Satella turning insane when she went into contact with the Witch Factor of Envy. The Witch of Envy would be a twisted version of Satella. She loves Subaru genuinelly but the Witch of Envy persona being in control most of the time, turns this love in a twisted way, is jealous of girls around Subaru, wants him to only think about her, that RBD remains their secret etc...
What i like about re zero is that the Author never wanted to make his main character be totally cool with dying. He wanted to send a message to the people that commit suicide that dying is never an option and it's not pretty. That's why he's made every single one of Subaru's death extremely painful physically and psychologically. In this arc Subaru decided to rely on return by death too much. He dedicated the last loop into simply getting info with no qualms about putting his own life at risk. The character trait of Subaru that the author wanted to develop in this arc was trying to get Subaru to value his life more
Typhon ready to throw hands with every other witch present (including Envy) simply for making Subaru cry is somehow precious in its own twisted way. She already judged Subaru once before and the result was not only "not a bad person" but she even called him kindhearted. So in her childish black and white view of justice she was fully ready to use her power against her closest friends because somebody who hurts a good person like him must be punished as an evildoer All except for Minerva, who gets physically sick and throws up by just thinking of harming anybody, lol
And that marks the end of part 1 of Season 2! Let's find out if in part 2 Subaru can liberate the sanctuary, clear the three trials, defeat/befriend Garfiel, protect Emilia, subvert Roswaal's machinations, defeat the Bowel Hunter, defeat the Beast Master, defeat the Great Rabbit, save Rem, save Frederica, save Petra, save Beatrice, and love himself, all within 4 to 5 days.
There are several comments here clarifying the incredibly important cut content about Satella's split personality disorder. This was a massive mistake on the anime's part to cut. It's like not ever revealing that Bruce Wayne is Batman, the character just doesn't function without understanding the alter ego. But there's a little bit more too it which relates to a very important mystery. So here's what this episode was supposed to reveal. Only the Witch of Envy personality is envious of Subaru loving others. The Envy personality is the one we saw manifest in the real world and swallow the Sanctuary in shadows. The Envy personality is everything you would expect from a "Yandere" evil witch starved of love. The Satella personality on the other hand is the version we see in this episode and she is notably more caring and genuine for Subaru's well being. A very clear contrast of good and evil between the two. Here's the ever important mystery introduced in all this. Despite Satella being the obviously good persona, and Envy being the obviously evil and extremely dangerous persona, the other Witches confirm it was the Satella personality that nearly genocided the entire world, not Envy. That's the mystery. Why was it this obviously good and caring persona that committed the most legendary crime of global mass murder the world has ever seen? What could have possibly been the reason? This is one of Re:Zero's biggest mysteries so it would be a shame to miss out on it. On a side note because I didn't notice anyone mention it, this episode with Subaru biting his tongue off was almost a true game over. Echidna explains earlier before him meeting Daphne that there is no death in this dreamworld, but his mind can still take damage and be fractured. By mind she means soul, his soul can break in this realm and upon being returned to his body he will be a husk. If Subaru succeeded in killing himself this episode, this would have authentically been the end of the story. Just cool to note how close Subaru got to a true bad end here.
Speculation, not spoiler: I definitely feel like it's VERY strongly hinted that there is some time loop or something going on and Satella IS what Emilia became for some reason as she awakened time manipulating powers, became a timeless being, or something along those lines. We got pieces to speculate how that could make sense: - Subaru being fully devoted to Emilia no matter what -> Subaru first death = self sacrifice for Emilia - Return by death given by Satella = Emilia trying to save him - However, by the Steins Gate effect, he still always dies in every loop - Thus, Satella trying to die = trying to erase the reason for his death from the timeline - Subaru not allowed to mention his power = making sure no traces of her existence remain, i.e. getting rid of any time paradox so she can be fully erased from the timeline There're still loopholes, but I find "Satella = Emilia" so heavily hinted at this episode that I'll be more surprised if it ends up being false than getting other unexpected reasons for any remaining loopholes.
Another thing the anime doesn't portray fully: When Subaru "wakes up" from returning by death the emotion, pain, everything he as feeling and thinking at the moment he died - that is still there. That's why he often is in a freaked out state when time resets. Which further proves how resilient he has been. Imagine waking up from being murdered with the pain still fresh in mind. Edit: Also, Otto is the ultimate bro.
No, Emilia wasn't saying the same things as Satella was when she went nuts. Sometimes I wonder if people are actively listening when things happen rather than just barely noticing while reading subs because "Aishiteru" is not the same word as "Daisuki" They both have the same meaning essentially but they're entirely different terms. Daisuki is what you'll hear most people say in media from Japan, it's a term meaning "Love/like" and it's very appropriate for polite society, it's more modern a term than the other and it is used because speaking publicly about loving another person is more of a modern phenomenon in Japan. Aishiteru is far different a thing, it's a very weighty word in Japan and something that has far more meaning than just "love" it involves the person saying how they would never want to live without the person and care about them on a level that is somewhat unseemly to speak of in public. It used to be used more often than Daisuki in Japan many years ago as it was the main term used to express love for another, but it was only ever really spoken of in private between two people. Satella uses "Aishiteru" as there is meant to be a type of obsession she has with Subaru. Emilia used "Daisuki" as she is very child-like and naive, thinking of something in simple terms while having the same sort of obsessive controlling nature that Satella has. That's why Satella also said "moto anatau aishite" which directly translates to "More yourself love" or "love yourself more." but it's not meant here to be obsessive, it's meant to have serious meaning as Satella is saying it while coherent and clear headed that she just wants Subaru to care about himself.
This episode makes you look at the winter episode/OVA a bit differently, doesn't it? The snow sculpture made by ram and rem about subaru and Roswall as one character makes more sense now, right? Almost as that's what Roswall wanted from Subaru all along, to make Subaru become like him.
You're not alone in not understanding the relationship between Subaru and Satella. You're currently watching the Re:Zero's 4th story arc. Tappei Nagatsuki is currently writing the 8th story arc, and whatever the connection between Subaru and Satella is remains one of the series' great mysteries - and my guess is it won't be answered anytime soon.
The reason the other witches didn't stop the witch of wrath (the healing one) is because before Subaru wanted to die and the other witches were just respecting his wish due to his emotions but it was until Subaru then decided he didn't want to die which then allowed the witch of wrath to then respect Subaru's wish by keeping him alive (through healing).

Once overlord is watched, we can at some point watch Isekai Quartet. That will be a fun watch.
Echidna was the only one who reacted outright negatively when Satella showed up at the witches tea party and she's the only one who said that the witch of envy killed all the other witches.
OVERLORD OVERLORD
The veil that Satella is wearing is The Witch of Envy's Witch factor itself it Changes her personality
Satella and the Witch of Envy are like two separate personalities
Satella loves Subaru
While the Witch of Envy Factor actually will kill anyone who loves Subaru
The fact that the whole season so far was about getting Subaru to value himself more... this is why re:zero is peak

@@edsonaugusto3552 Spoiler:
As far as i have read (WEB novel and around half arc 7) there wasn't any extra explaination about this (as far as i remember ofc, has been some time). we got a few more piece of the puzzle at the end of arc 6 at the top of the Pleiades Watchtower (which btw the name SUBARU in japanese is equivalent to the name of the Pleiades constellation). there are a lot more of other similarities between stars and the re zero universe (another examples are the name of the arcbishop recalling the name of Stars. regulus, betelgues Etc).
@@edsonaugusto3552there are way important things that they didn't put in the anime
Also when giving a reason why she is so obsessed with subaru she says the following
Satella: “I am in love with you. Because you-you gave me everything.”
Now personally I tried to read between the lines and came up with my own theory for what all this means but ill leave it to your interpretation.
What is your theory?
@@Andrew_S1 subaru is the main villan of re zero, he was transported to the re zero wolrd 400 years ago and went down an evil path like as if it was one of the IF stories, he met satella and tried to use her for his own advantage and rizzed her up, but then one day someone killed subaru (maybe flugel the sage or reid or anyone for that matter), satella goes berserk and you know the rest..... except, subaru actually had a fail safe plan, he asked pandora to store his memories with her since who knows what would happen to him if he dies, now coming to present day, we see that satella found subaru and now he's back in this world, and thats the reason he has return by death, coz satella learnt her lesson 400 years ago and doesnt want the same thing to happen again. so now if subaru ever meets pandora, she's gonna restore his memories and he's gonna become the main villan of re zero, the main protagonist was rienhardt all along, the end..... thanks for tuning in to my ted talk
(p.s. im not serious about this theory lol, i just wrote it for fun, and made up a wrong theory on purpose knowing that this would never actually be the real plot but it's somewhat cohesive since its meant to distract me from thinking about real theories
@@Vierdro what do you think of my theory? (yes ive stated that i made a wrong theory on purpose)

When you realize that Roswaal wrote season 1 and part 1 of season 2.
roswaal read the webnovel
so that book is the printed webnovel
Roswaal Jeager cooked 🗣🗣
more of like, roswaal noticed in season 1 that the future does not follow the Tome of wisdom (book). Once verified that subaru is the one that messing with the timeline of events, he takes initiative in season 2 to perfect subaru as a being who can only save 1 person and no one else atleast what I thought after watching the show.
13:05 "Is Subaru more part of this world then we realize?"
Season 1 does actually hint at this.
Basically you're asking the right question.
wdym?@@-Time_Stamp__-Mind.Set-___
s1 also skipped the (major imo) conversation between subaru and Al which explains why he always calls him kyoudai.
Natsumi Schwartz huh, best girl for a reason 😂
There needs to be more Natsumi Schwartz art
So this was for some reason not included in the anime but in the novels during the Satella scene, Satella said this to Subaru:
"I... love you. Because you... gave me light. Because you took my hand, and you taught me about the world outside. Because... when I trembled on lonely nights, you never stopped holding my hand. Because when i felt lonely, you kissed me and said that i wasn't alone. You gave me so many things... That's why I love you. Because you... you gave me everything."
and this, is exactly what emilia though after said event happened to her. so, yeah, she was copying her probably

Unironically, Otto and Subaru is relationship goals.
an important line missed out in the anime, when satella arrives here, the witch on wrath, (the healing blondie) says, ""are you satella or the witch of envy?""also petition for luke to react to the re zero IF stories as well, pride, wrath, sloth and greed theyre absolutly amazing, all must watches fr, emilia and satella both exist at the same time, so it wont make sense if they were the same person
you missed out one detail which was implied about three times during the tea party, that is.... the witch FACTORS, pay attention to that pls

i dont recommend he reacts to them till after the 3rd season finishes. most of the IFs have spoilers for season 3
It’s honestly obvious that Satella isn’t Emilia, Satella kills Emilia in front of Subaru in season 1 so… so clearly separate individuals xD
And yes as an anime only, you miss the clue about Satella being different from the witch of Envy, basically you got two personalities with Satella. I wish the anime explained that a bit more but it’s ok
@@xxGachaholicplease explain everything about this satella or wich of envy to me. Why does she love subaru
Why so spoiler comments even exists here?
This isn't really a spoiler but read at your own risk
The other witches heavily imply during this whole conversation that Satella and The Witch of Envy aren't the same person, in the light novel.
Another important detail about Subaru's attempt at suicide during the meeting with the Witches:
In both the novel and the manga we get to hear his thoughts on what Satella is saying to him, and just before he bites his tongue, a certain thought crosses his mind...
Since everyone is only talking about Satella not being the same as the Witch, here's a few different Things:
Gaining the Qualification for the Trial *was* Part of her Help, so it's like: "If you deny my Wish and don't want my Assistance, good Luck getting to your Goal!"
'Fun' part lol. That was me at the start of arc5.
Sir, I think you forgot lia's first trial and whatever the heck is going on in the mansion.
Yeah I think so too
I think that this theory could also be plausible because the power to remove and return memories has already been shown, by echidna, so it’s possible that Satella maybe used this power as well
Well yes, Rem is supposed to be gone but not by her will.
There was just no way of saving her, which is why the checkpoint was updated.
Even if they would have made it in time, Ley and Regulus are just too strong for any of the members present at that time.
So, what we got was the best possible outcome with the least amount and least severe sacrifices.
The mystery of who is Satella and more importantly who is "Subaru" start to begin here
no the mystery of who "Subaru" is begins in arc 6, the mystery of Subaru's connection to this world is what starts here
One thing which makes your reactions more enjoyable than in other channels is the way you're very careful to not miss anything, rewinding a dialogue you missed if necessary.
I love that Minerva is basically just cuter Crazy Diamond
FOR DRAGON'S SAKE LUKE, STOP CALLING HER ENCHILADA 🤣🤣🤣
This has been commented a couple of times but I thought I would post the cut excerpt with Satella verbatim from the web novel translation because I thought Subaru's reaction is also very interesting:
Satella: “I am in love with you. -Because you gave me light. Because you took me by the hand, and
taught me the world outside. Because through nights where in solitude I shivered, you kept by my
side with your hands around mine. Because, then being alone, by your kiss you told me I wasn't.
There are so many things you've given to me. ...And so, I love you. Because you-you gave me
everything.”
Subaru: “-”
Subaru has not a single memory of any involvement in any part of Satella's whisperings.
He isn't part of it, doesn’t know any of it. He has never met Satella, never spoken with her, never
overlaid his warmth with hers. Everything she is talking about is the fruits of her delusion. This
woman insane with sentiment had lined up empty daydreams where she simply watched a fantasy
of Subaru.
Is what this should be, but NATSUKI SUBARU does know this.
Subaru: “Why're this... inside me, what is this? I don't want to feel this. Don't tether me with, non-
existent memories... I... I damn... I goddamn...”
Hate you, is all he has to say.
All he has to do is stab the one giving him their feelings with the announcement that he held not a
single speck of fondness for her. Then would be spectating just what expression the one
egotistically trying to distort his emotions would make. Bet the pain to her heart would have her
face twisting magnificently.

4:29 I wouldn’t say so because Satella is showing a clear concern for Subarus wellbeing. Crazy Emilia completely disregarded Subaru being injured to the point where he bleed to death in her lap
8:09 Btw since this world is within the mind and mental injuries remain outside of return by death Subaru would’ve really died if Minerva didn’t heal him there. That’s how few up he was with everyone and everything
9:19 Besides the spilt personality always remember history is written by the victor
11:02 they didn’t interfere because they respected Subarus decision before Minerva would’ve healed him without him wanting her to do so but now he realized that he actually wants to live so they let her
13:03 Maybe but Echidna also said Subarus return by death is caused by the witches delusion
24:43 Garfiel attempted the 1st trial but he never passed it
27:03 The face paint is to show that Roswaal is in character, you might’ve not noticed it but he stopped speaking sing songy as well and started telling Subaru his true objective it also a sign that he lost hope in the current loop
28:58 You will find out whenever yes or no this season still so I’ll fill you in by the time the episode comes because it got cut in the anime just how involved Roswaal was in everything starting from episode 1
32:04 Roswaal knew Subaru would restart if he killed Ram so that instance it didn’t matter
38:33 Also nice parallels to episode 13 of season 1 when Subaru and Emilia were arguing and Emilia didn’t understand how she did all these amazing things for Subarus and only he remembered because these things happened in dead timelines and now Subaru isn’t understanding how he supposedly did anything for Satella
16:50 that moment, that smile... it is one of my favorite moments.
Here are some direct lines out of the novels which take part at the start of the episode to confirm this:
Camilla: “That ENVY is... is, e-everyone's foe, is... is right, but, t-that... thing and her, are... ddifferent, cases... mm?”
Subaru: “...I don't understand what you're saying. What're all of you...”
Sekhmet: “So long as we don't know which one that thing standing there is-huu-more than us
being unwilling to act, to do so'd be unreasonable-haa.”
Subaru: “Which one?”
Minerva: “-Are you the WITCH OF ENVY? Or are you Satella? Which?”
Then some more informations happened and this line was said:
Minerva: “See, look. She knew there wasn't any need to dodge my punch, that's Satella, not the
WITCH OF ENVY.
That will definitely solve all your internal issues."
This episode for example.
12 now
Arc 7 got split into two arcs in the middle of writing, so we will now have a total of 12 arcs
I heard something about Tappei making it 14 arcs, not sure though
@@clydedropout8283 That would be awesome if true, would love to see some official statement on that
Summertime Rendering was my favorite new show of 2022 and its finished unlike Demon Slayer or Overlord.
Another pick even though it's unlikely to win a poll due to the RUclips audience not liking SOL is Hyouka. Which IMO is Kyoani's magnum opus.
summertime Renderering and Hyouka both are 10/10 for me 🔥
One nice detail is that when Subaru takes the hand of Satella he says the same line that he said back in episode 1 season 1 when taking Emilia's hand.
Roswaal is just fabulous.....gotta be my favorite character.
Probably one of the only series that made me quite emotional, and I barely cry for anything😅
Synopsis:
After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out... into a tent!
5:40 maybe that is why Satella didn't give Subaru time to go back and save her.
Satella is like a dark version of Emilia (just exactly like Emilia, but under the influence of the Witch of Envy) Interesting
29:45 regarding Subaru being strong willed, there's a random moment in Isekai Quartet where a character is thinking to themselves "what kinda mental stress is that guy used to living under?"
35:30 Otto casually being the best character in the show whenever he's on screen

Luke.....who do you like more: a) the bowel chick; b) Witch of Sloth; c) Witch of Greed? (smirk)
@STEMHub18 Which part, the many Subarus or the many worlds? Cuz the many worlds I already figured out long ago it's bs made by fatalistic readers.
@@SilverYPheonix both as bs, only one subaru and one world exist
@STEMHub18 dude ive already read arc 5,6 and 7 lol
From Japan.
Wait, why did Patrache make the Return by Death - Witch of Envy sound!? 🤣🤣🤣
My guess is either some kind of time manipulation, or an oath that erases memory... one of these.
cut from Subaru crying on the ground:
The Witch of Pride, seeking to pass judgment upon the one who made the young boy cry.
The Witch of Wrath, clenching her fists, wishing that the feelings of the close friend at her side would
bear fruit.
The Witch of Sloth, paying heed to everyone’s movements, languidly prepared to instantly attack if
anything should happen.
The Witch of Lust, keeping her uninvolved demeanor, ready to protect herself should the matters
escalate in a flash.
The Witch of Gluttony, having already lost interest in what was happening around her, now agonizing over whose fingers to munch on to best stave off her hunger.
The Witch of Greed, directing her hostility toward one Witch in particular, while her eyes went on
brimming with curiosity at just how this tea party shall unfold.
And, the one who was not the Witch of Envy, but Satella――
Satella: “I, love you―― Because you gave me light. It was you who took me by the hand and showed me
the world outside. In the nights when I was lonely and afraid, you stayed by my side with your hands
around mine. And when I was all alone, you kissed me on the lips and told me that I wasn’t. You’ve given me so, so much… That’s why, I love you. Because you… you gave me everything.”
Subaru: “――――”
Subaru couldn’t recall doing a single thing that Satella had whispered.
Don’t try to bind me… with
memories that can’t exist… you… you… I… Hk.”
“I hate you”, was all he needed to say.
All he had to do was stab the girl who offered him these feelings with the fact that he didn’t have the slightest affection for her. Once he does, he would be able to see the look on the face of the one who
had selfishly sought to warp his heart. Surely, it would be an expression magnificently twisted by heartbreak.
――But, how are you even capable of doing that to her?
subaru's insane for not yet being insane
youre right, there is way more than what we've been told. i love that youre already getting curious about subaru's connection to this world, im really excited to see how you feel about season 3!
I'm so glad you are enjoying this anime & I love your reactions to it all, Luke! It really gets you invested and wanting to know more about each character even the Witches doesn't it! 😁
that rumbling in the end is hilarious 😆😆😆
Also its my belief that Emilia is the witch of Envy and there is some time distortion involved
Remember alternate realities is one of the options how the trial interpreted how return by death might work.
What if the other more simply solution truly is the power to work on the flow of time.
roswald really is the incarnation of "my reasons are beyond your mortal comprehension"
The Mabeasts aren't all collectively under any one groups control. That girl just specializes in controlling them like a character class.
by the way, when subaru was near satella he could feel love creeping in his heart against his will, which is why he said i will save you.
If you would like to read it(it is a small chapter) here is the chapter(comment will be in 2 parts) :
Arc 4 Interlude II: "The Guests have left"
Sekhmet: "Letting him go like that, huh. Was it okay, huh?"
Echidna: "It was his decision, his choice. I want to respect that. But I can't help feeling conflicted about him taking her hand and leaving holding that Thing’s hand"
In response to Sekhmet's languid voice, Echidna shrugs her shoulders on the spot.
It would be helpful if you could run around treating people with a little more moderation”
Minerva: “I only heal wounds that are within my reach, according to my own way of doing things. I don't discriminate between humans, witches, animals, birds, fish, insects, or magical beasts. The wounds of living things are my enemies!"
Echidna: "Even so, the burden of your actions here comes to me, unlike when you were alive. When you were alive, the World was shouldering the burden, so can't you imagine how hard it is when such a burden falls on me alone?"
Minerva: "I don't care about fatigue or things that can't be seen. I heal wounds. I don't care if the world's lifespan shortens or not”
The witches sighed as Minerva crossed her arms and emphasized her voluptuous chest with her declaration.
You can't heal or cure more than what's needed before you become parched, so I'm not satisfied"
Echidna: "In the first place, there should be no reason for injuries to occur here. It's just that it was too noisy here for a while, and it almost caused a misunderstanding"
Minerva: "Yes... It's been noisy for a while, hasn't it?"
Minerva's momentum is dampened by Echidna's words. She has an understandable look of discouragement on her cute face as she looks up at the blue sky with her blonde hair and said,
Minerva: " Do you think he can handle it? I'm really worried”
Echidna: “My hands, which should have been able to handle it without a doubt, were rejected. In any case, he should be scrambling to make it work. It seems that he hasn't found the answer yet, though"
Minerva: "What's with that way of saying it? You led him to brush off your hand yourself, and you're trying to hide your true intentions from us, even though we know the truth? It doesn't make any sense!"
Echidna: "I didn't mean to be rejected. It's just that I would have been fine either way, whether he rejected me or accepted me."
In response to Minerva, who was scowling, Echidna sat down at the table she had re-created. Then, she snapped her fingers to create a teacup and tilted it to her lips.
Echidna: "I affirm choices and the results of choices. I don't think the results matter much. The fact that he chose, or the fact that he didn't choose, either one is important. I am proud to say that I am a person who can enjoy either outcome, good or bad"
Daphne: "But... that doesn't mean you don't have any preference, does it? "
A black-painted coffin slowly lined up next to Echidna, who was sipping her tea. Daphne, who had somehow returned to the coffin, was greedily devouring the tea cakes on the table like a dog.
Daphne: "You say you respect the results, but you don't hesitate to lead to the results you want, don't you, Dona-Dona? It is true that it was okay either way, but isn't it also true that you were glad that it turned out this way?"
Echidna: "You're a child who doesn't care about others, but you always hit the nail on the head, Daphne"
Daphne: "It's just that compared to the hunger that has been bothering Daphne all the time, it's not worth thinking about. Haa haa, fumofumo"
As Daphne ate past the tea cakes and started chewing on the plates, Echidna sighed and looked at the other witches who began to sit down at the remaining seats.
Lazily, with undisguised anger, and with a look of trepidation on their face――and with a particularly stern look in their eyes, she was the only one
In the Witches' twisted way of thinking... Return by Death would be Satella's way of ensuring Subaru can live without regrets.
32:40 the moment you started saying this-- I understood why your twitch chat called you Otto.
It is so fun to see how your office is getting new stuff every single reaction
Spoilers for season 2 and some arc 6 bits:
From what we hear briefly through Volcanica, Satella was loved and revered by everyone close to her.
GOTGames should react how his past reaction videos. He's saying he didn't get annoyed seeing him weak lol.
It has been said that Subaru looks like Frugal the Great Sage
and yes i think that somewhat Emilia is (not in the past) of which the Witch of Envy is now. But the other way around. Emilia is the future of the Witch of Envy.
imagine having to wait over 3 months after this episode for the next one....glad you get to jump right into it!
Important Cut content #2
1) Daphne Mentioned subaru as SAGE CANDIDATE.
2) 4:26 Anime skipped important lines and one conversation. Read below lines
――But, how are you even capable of doing that to her?
.... can people preface from where they get their information? Because that's clearly from the Web Novel.
(Whoever decided to put the name of who is speaking before they start to talk-and everyone else copying it too come to think of it-should just stop it when it's either one or two person talking, like seriously, it only starts becoming hard when 3 or more people are talking.)
Subaru was given the ability to Return by Death by the Witch of Envy. If she can give that ability to Subaru what is to say that she herself does not have a similar ability to go back in time. It is my theory as this has not been revealed at all that when the witch of Envy talks about Subaru saving her she is talking about something he does in the future and essentially she brought him over and gave him the ability because she knows he will save her with her own time/return powers.
petition for luke to react to the re zero IF stories as well, pride, wrath, sloth and greed... y'all know he's gonna love em
Nice idea but can you also provide the information when which IF story is saved to read. If I remember correctly, some IF stories are better read after Arc 5 to avoid spoilers. Unfortunately I can't find the information about this right now.
i still see pretty much every witch as a potential calamity
The Rising of the Shield Hero could be on the competing list after Demonslayer
Prob (?) SPOILER
One thing it was cut in this episode was: Satella and the Witch of Envy aren't the same person.
When Satella took the Witch Factor of Envy, her personality split in two for her wasn't compatible with the sin.
Envy wants to keep Subaru with ultimate jealousy, Satella wants Subaru loves himself more.
pls mark spoilers. might be revlealed later in the anime adaptation i hope
@@RenderingUser Ok, I will.
Anyway, I don't remember any mention of that after the arc 4 (in web novel, I mean). I think the only chance is if whitefox will make an other director's cut and add it there.
@@sairadice7681 i see
I appreciate people who know what's like to be in someone else's shooes.
So in her childish black and white view of justice she was fully ready to use her power against her closest friends because somebody who hurts a good person like him must be punished as an evildoer
All except for Minerva, who gets physically sick and throws up by just thinking of harming anybody, lol
I love how Re: Zero makes Luke think a lot about the plot of the show
Roswal "removed his mask" to talk to subary face to face... actually... no Facades man to man...
This is why re Zero is peak
But it saddens me that it takes 4years for each anime to be announced Released
S1-2016
S2-2020
S3-2024
When Subaru keeps saying RETURN BY DEATH!!!!! He summons Satella
so when he said that to Echidna he summoned Satella who possed Emilia
Speculation, not spoiler:
I definitely feel like it's VERY strongly hinted that there is some time loop or something going on and Satella IS what Emilia became for some reason as she awakened time manipulating powers, became a timeless being, or something along those lines.
We got pieces to speculate how that could make sense:
- Subaru being fully devoted to Emilia no matter what -> Subaru first death = self sacrifice for Emilia
- Return by death given by Satella = Emilia trying to save him
- However, by the Steins Gate effect, he still always dies in every loop
- Thus, Satella trying to die = trying to erase the reason for his death from the timeline
- Subaru not allowed to mention his power = making sure no traces of her existence remain, i.e. getting rid of any time paradox so she can be fully erased from the timeline
There're still loopholes, but I find "Satella = Emilia" so heavily hinted at this episode that I'll be more surprised if it ends up being false than getting other unexpected reasons for any remaining loopholes.
Edit:
Also, Otto is the ultimate bro.
No, Emilia wasn't saying the same things as Satella was when she went nuts.
Sometimes I wonder if people are actively listening when things happen rather than just barely noticing while reading subs because
"Aishiteru" is not the same word as "Daisuki" They both have the same meaning essentially but they're entirely different terms.
It seems like Typhon was set on stopping Minerva until Daphne stopped her.
written very well(long net ver), I felt author's enthusiasm, from this chapter 4.
looking forward to upcoming chapters on TV, each chap is popular.Chap 5.6 are also (more?) intersting😊
(I think it will be more and more difficult to draw, though😅)

I am 100% on your side ther thats exectly what I think and people still say he is weak
