After my auxiliary belt tensioner pulley catastrophically failed today and shredded the belt, replacing the timing belt and associated gubbins has entered my to do list - don't really want it to fail like my VW T4's one did, where the water pump took out the timing belt! This is a cracking video and will make the task much, much easier when I get to it. Thank you!
Doing one of these on a ducato tomorrow and as a hgv mechanic Im not familiar with em. Fantastic video, feeling alot more confident to attack it knowing what lays ahead
I have a 2011 Ducato and it's a piece of cake compared to the Iveco. The chassis leg is literally no problem. Just drop the engine enough so you can see the crank bolt or get a right angle impact gun. If you want a ton of fun with either of them, do yourself a brake vacuum pump.
Great video, followed this while changing a diesel pump on a 2008 2.3.It was a but of a mission to get the crank and diesel pump pulley so managed to get a harmonic balancer puller from machine mart and a universal pulley holder tool from Amazon and made the work a lot easier.I would advice anybody tackling this please do yourself a favour and get these tool to save yourselfs a bit of time and damage.Otherwise I really do appreciate this video can't thank you enough mate.
Cheers matey, yes I agree with you regarding the crank pulley, they are absolutely pain to remove, my fuel pump pulley wasn't so bad to be fair matey, then again!.... I've got to do all of this again, on the new engine 🙄😅😁👍👍👍.
Very useful video. I hope I will find the same screws to block the crankshaft and the camshaft on my 2003 2.3 Inkjet 4 cylinders... Thank you very much for the time you took to share your knowledge.
You're welcome Yann and thank you 😉👍, I only used (if my memory serves me well) a 6mm bolt for the cam shaft, and utilised the timing marks on the new belt it self mate, you can't go far wrong by doing that. But for peace of mind, I do recommend using a Timing tool set. 😉👍👍👍
Thank you for this video. Thanks to this i performed the same job. Im also doing other jobs on the van while the front end is off.. de scale and painting/ bumper anchor side brackets repace / cab mount bushes...... Thank you
Looking at all the work you had to do on repairs if doing again would you get a later van and do you think there's enough head room i have a chance of a 04 iveco daily lwb s2000 same roof hight as yours I'm 6ft tall after you done the floor and roof how much hight is left to stand up thanks keep up with the great videos
I'd probably would get an newer one now bud, but saying that, this is so easy to maintain and repair! So swings and roundabouts on that one🤔👍. At 6ft you'd be able to stand up in mine but you would catch your head on the skylight surround, so I'd probably only use 25mm PIR for the flooring, cheers matey 😉👍👍👍.
The water pump is run off the timing belt, you may have two "accessory belts though" ! One belt runs the radiator fan and alternator. The other belt runs the air-conditioning has "standard" 😉👍.
Great video, giving me confidence to change the cam on by Daily. Can I ask, what paint do you use for the chassis? The red paint, and would you recommend? Cheers
Thank you matey 👌👍. The paint is "Red Oxide", 4 years on its still like that, but I've noticed a small amount of rust build up close to the wheel arch area. In hindsight I'd probably would do the chassis with red hamerite 😉👍👍👍.
please help! when removing the crankshaft drive belt pulley, do you need to remove the middle bolt? doesn't look like you do but I cant get the pulley off for the life of me! Great vid btw
Thank you 😉👍, No, four smaller bolts around it, wire brush on a drill to clean the rust off, plenty of "Wd40" and gently tap each end of the crankshaft pulley with an copper hammer and work off, mine was a sod to get off, about an hour TBH, middle bolt is for the cambelt crankshaft drive pulley only 😉👍👍👍.
Do you mean you to visually check the condition of the belt in situ ? If so? You can remove the bolts on the cover and pull it back so far, and then you would need to manually turn the engine over to inspect/visually check the belt condition 👌👍.
my fuel pump pully has a timing mark on it, does that mean it has to be tied up? I can see where the other two pulleys have been marked up before but cant find a corresponding mark for the fuel pump pulley mark, I took a pic before I took the belt off, but there's no guarantee ill be able to get it back to the exact same tooth on the belt. I have an 08 fiat ducato 2.3 L 120 multijet. You videos are great btw, wouldn't of been able to do this job without you.
Thank you matey 😉👍, No mine didn't either, don't worry about the position of the fuel pump pulley, (it's a pump nothing more) , just concentrate on the camshaft and crankshaft timing marks bud 😉👍👍👍
After the second lot of 8 rotations, it looks like the belt is sitting proud of the cam n crank pulley by about 3-5mm and then you say to make sure the belt is set back on all the pulleys. Do you loosen the tensioner pulley agin to push the belt back on?? Mine seems to of ran off by a similar amount, but I can’t push it back on while the belts under tension....
Yes mine did by a few mm, I reset my tension again and pushed it back and retensioned again, after a couple of turns I fitted bottom part of the cover and bottom crank pulley, and that seems to prevent the cambelt from riding off bud 😉👍👍👍
No, as long you've locked everything up and aligned the belt markings, you will be fine. You will be forever turning it over before those markings on the belt are aligned again. 👌👍...

Meaning the pump would be held in situ with just the High Pressure Pipes ? Many thanks look forward to your help cheers Simon.

First of all thank you so much for this wonderful video, for me its more helpful then all the papers and documents out there. Unfortunately I am facing a problem. Because I couldn't get the crankshaft pulley of, I talked to Iveco, they recommended to take out that 19mm bolt, which I did. But then the whole crankshaft drive pulley came of too. The belt didn't fall of the pulley, after realizing what happened I put the pulley with the belt on back on. Now I am just scared that I changed the position of the pulley or the crankshaft. Is that possible? I will have to put the bolt on again with 200nm thats for sure but I can just hope that the position is still ok. Do you have any advice? I hope my English is understandable, thank you so much for your help! FOR EVERYONE DOING THIS JOB; DO IT EXACTLY AS SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO! even Iveco was bullshiting me...cheers!
You should be fine by placing a timing tool on the crank locking that into position (or an 9mm drill bit) and making sure that the timing is aligned and locked into position on the cam pulley. Fixing the crank drive back on and torqued back up😉👍, I used a small wire brush on a drill to clean up the bolts on the crank pulley and soaked that area with WD40 over night, still took some work in removing that pulley by working it off the crank though 😉👌👍👍👍.
I placed a wire brush upon my drill and removed the rust build up, soaked the crank pulley with WD40 and left for oil to soaking over night. Removed the 4 bolts holding the pulley in place, then lightly tapped around the crank pulley (this took around 30 minutes) until it worked its way loose 😉👌👍👍👍.
