'Wonderwall' became the biggest single by Oasis in 1995... but believe it or not, lead singer Liam Gallagher did not like the song when he heard it in the studio; his brother Noel Gallagher (guitar/ vocals) who wrote it had to fight to get Liam to sing it. After Oasis split up in 2009 and Liam Gallagher went solo in 2017, he still performs 'Wonderwall' in concert - it's his bread & butter 😂 There are better Oasis songs to check out that became huge hits - 'Live forever' ... 'Supersonic' ... "D'you know what I mean" ... "Don't look back in anger" (lead vocals by Noel Gallagher) ... 'Acquiesce'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘 Liam Gallagher (lead vocals) of Oasis is a huge John Lennon and Beatles fan (So is Noel Gallagher) and Oasis had a lot of Beatles references in their songs... They even sampled The Beatles' 'Strawberry Fields forever' in their song 'Go let it out'... and covered "I am the Walrus" live. (FYI - Paul 'Guigsy' McGuigan on bass, they pronounced his name Guigsy as "goo - eeg - zee" (McGuigan as "mac - goo -ee -gan") Oasis was formed in 1991 when Liam Gallagher (lead vocals) joined a local Manchester, England band called Rain, on the condition that they change the name to Oasis... Liam's older brother Noel Gallagher was a guitarist who wrote songs as a hobby but had no band - he worked as a tech and roadie for other bands... Noel came home and saw Liam's band and was impressed. Liam asked Noel to join and convinced him to let Oasis play his songs cos they felt that their original songs were not good enough. Noel brought in his early songs like - "All around the world" ... 'Columbia' ... "Rock n' roll star" ... "Digsy's dinner"... His lyrics were very much influenced by The Beatles' trippy material like "I am the Walrus" ... 'Come together' ... "Lucy in the sky with diamonds"... Oasis were signed to a British label Creation Records, which gave their artists full creative freedom in 1993. Noel began writing more songs for Oasis' debut album and one of the songs was 'Supersonic' - an uptempo rock song w/ lyrics that didn't make much sense, but it set the standard... With pressure to write a follow up record, Noel Gallagher opted to fire drummer Tony McCarroll and enlisted Alan White (drums) in '95 for Oasis' 2nd album "(What's the story) Morning glory"... The album went to #1 in the UK and outsold 'Definitely maybe'... w/ major hit singles like 'Wonderwall' ... 'Champagne supernova' ... 'Some might say' ... "Don't look back in anger"... Another major hit, #1 in the UK... platinum in the US but unable to match the success of 'Morning glory'... despite the singles - "D'you know what I mean"... 'Stand by me' ... "Don't go away". With the 90's decade over, Oasis saw trends going against them, as well as setbacks behind the scenes... Creation Records folded... both guitarist Bonehead Arthurs and bassist Guigsy McGuigan quit the band by 1999... Noel Gallagher wrote and played most of their 4th studio album "Standing on the shoulder of giants" released in 2000 w/ Alan White on drums, Liam on vocals... Gem Archer (guitar) and Andy Bell (bass) did the tour and joined Oasis full time. Subsequent Oasis albums did well in the UK and Europe but failed to match their 90's success overseas w/ the albums - 'Heathen chemistry' (2002)...
