Blind woman stunned when Mat and Savanna Shaw show up and sing to her and her family

It’s been a challenging few years for Arlene Hix. As she and her husband, Veldon, were traveling to Jackson Hole in 2017, he suffered a major heart attack and they ended up crashing into a river. Veldon passed away and Arlene was rescued from the vehicle submerged in water.
Fast forward to earlier this year when Arlene woke up one morning and could not see anything. Her son rushed her to the doctor where she was told she was blind and would never see again. Arlene moved into MorningStar Senior Living and a few months later, her daughter died.
When EastIdahoNews.com heard Mat and Savanna Shaw were coming to eastern Idaho for a concert, we asked if they’d be interested in visiting Arlene. The daddy-daughter singing duo agreed and said they want their music to share hope and spread joy.
We planned a big surprise with the Shaws and Arlene’s family. She had no clue what was about to happen! Watch the video above to see how it all went down.
We came hoping to lift Arlene’s spirit, but left feeling like she lifted ours. What an example of positivity and light and joy, even in the midst of such tragedy and trials. We will never forget our time with Arlene!

What an amazing surprise for Arlene! she deserved this. I'd never heard of mat and savannah before, but i'm definitely a fan of them now.
There's a bunch of videos on RUclips of them singing. Not too long after the pandemic started they put out a video on RUclips of them singing The Prayer and it went viral. From then on they've become very popular. This year they started doing concerts. They have some albums out as well.

My parents were best friends with Arlene and Veldon when they were young married students at the U of I many years ago. Our families stayed close till the oldest kids became teenagers and life and miles pulled us in different directions. The Hix family has always had a special place in our hearts.
Thank you Matt and Savanna for this wonderful gift to Arlene, you picked a perfect person to share the true meaning of Christmas with. Your voices do bring joy and hope to many. I like this because it shows that all gifts need not be monetary or monetarily based. The beautiful voices of those 2 people transcend money and the woman's response is all the proof you need.

Bless you for caring about others. I went blind and my own family disowned me because they didn’t want to deal with anything negative. I had 6 surgeries including cornea transplant so I got my vision back but I learned a great deal. You are truly doing the Lord’s work. ❤️

What a Beautiful Lady and what a fun Grandma ! I'll bet she keeps everyone on their toes. It's a true Blessing to see someone so full of fun and love. Mat told her in the beginning that he wanted to give Arlene some joy and it's obvious that she is the one spreading joy to all those around her.

This was great. I remember Mat and Savanna's first video they posted and was hooked. One of those weird circumstances, if not for Covid they would have never started singing together. Was so nice of them to do this for Arlene. My wife had a family member as well that lost her sight and they never found out why. Same exact thing as Arlene. Went to bed and woke up and couldn't see.

When well-known people can act better than the average person and take time to give this woman who has suffered more than most can imagine, I'm ashamed. Think of her family and the joy they had participating, as they would be affected. Any talent or no talent (everyone has talents, but we don't recognize them) should use them. There is no pomp, but people enjoying each other and their blessings. Her FAMILY! Can you imagine that kind of FAMILY? What a wonderful lady and her family has kept her spirit sweet along with her love. Amazing how simple God planned our life, how wonderful it can be. Not because of an easy life, but a life that is thankful and gracious.
