Perms are actually really freakin’ hard to do. You’re basically using chemicals, which you have to be very choosy which ones to use for their hair in question, to break and reconnect your hair. So it involves breaking your hair and wrapping it around rods so when you use the chemical that reconnects the hair again, the hair will stay in the position you set it with the rods. So not only does it involve a lot of chemicals but you have to be very meticulous with how you place the hair in the rods. It takes several hours to do a perm and not all hair dressers know how to do it. It’s not something people ask for much anymore anyways. Plus sure you’ll get a huge chunk of change for doing a perm. But you could also have like 10 other clients in the time it takes to do a perm to do less time consuming work and probably make more money with those 10 clients Saying all that, she didn’t do that bad for not knowing what to do
Fun fact: Punch perms fell out of fashion in the mid-1990s because of their association with the Yakuza. Due to a combination of that and more Japanese men going to women-led salons rather than more traditional barbershops, very few hairstylists in Japan know how to create a punch perm today.
