    Part of why Lions fans were so pissed off about the Branch ejection was not the play by itself, but the long, ridiculous history of subjective officials calls going exclusively in Green Bay's favor in matchups between these teams over the years. The phantom face mask vs. Rodgers in the Hail Mary game in Detroit in 2014 was just one of many examples of the league putting its thumb on the scale in Grene Bay's favor in Lions-Packers games.

      There was another one in the past 4 or so years where GB defensive players were bitching all game about Taylor Decker facemasking them then when Lions were about to score they called a phantom hands to the face on Decker which may have called back a TD.
      Then sometime after the game the player was like "yeah he didn't facemask me at all during the game, I was just working the refs". Fucking brilliant play on him, but gross incompetence by the refs.

      @@Aaron-kj8dv I hope you're wrong because you just described the calls against Flowers the lions D lineman that came over from the Patriots. His signature move was to push up on the shoulder pads at the neckline of the offensive tackle. The GB tackle crude to the ref and then at a crucial series of plays in the fourth quarter threw his head back pretending that Flowers was doing something illegal on consecutive plays and got the face mask call. Afterwards the Player bragged and the NFL admitted that once again they got it wrong. Something that happened every Wednesday in season for decades.

    • @jazzlyn1891
      @jazzlyn1891 8 дней назад +6

      Physically speaking you can’t really divert your head without leading with your shoulder. It looked like it was an attempt to stop what he thought would’ve been a worse hit & he moved his head too early / in the wrong way. But they’re running at like top speed toward a tackle, in a rainstorm basically. Ejection was ridiculous. Especially coming from some hidden call in NY. Absolutely absurd.

      @@jazzlyn1891there was zero attempt to avoid contact seeing as the ball was 5 yards away and flew past Branch’s face. He was no where near the play sprinted over, ignored the ball lead with his helmet into Meltons face.

      @jazzlyn1891 8 дней назад +2

      @ I said it was an attempt to stop what he thought would’ve been a *worse* hit, not an attempt to avoid contact lol he went for the tackle bc he thought it was gonna be caught. But he was running at top speed in pouring rain with his teammate also meeting him there, & the ball went off of the Packers player’s hands as soon as Branch got there. Saying the ball was “5 yards away” is a stretch. Milton lowered from his jump as soon as Branch tried to shift & that’s what ended up happening.
      That’s also his job as a safety & what Branch does so well: he’s “nowhere near the plays”, and yet gets to them quickly to pick up INTs or tackles. He’s not a dirty player by any means so ejecting him, when the SAME thing happened that SAME DAY in a different game, was absolutely ridiculous. (dolphins vs bills)

Detroit is finding ways to win, win in a blowout, win ugly, they just find a way, who cares how you get it. 15 yd penalty makes sense but ejection was overkill for no reason, especially considering it came from a call from NY. It’s raining and wet and they’re running at top speed. Looked to me like he tried to avoid a worse hit & put his head down but like you said it was too early.
