The corvette (also often called an Offshore Patrol Vessel these days) is definitely making a comeback.

It's a specific type of ship. Green water. It makes sense for country's that want frigate-like capabilities, but don't need the range. It doesn't replace LCS either, as that's for green and brown water; a corvette like this simply can't go where LCS can, which is up rivers.

@@rocketassistedgoat1079 If you talk about the US LCS Independance/Freemdom ,they are a completely failed design, their engine are desastrous, and now they are restricted to a low speed (12kts, far from the 40+ of the origin...) . And the biggest Gowind (2500/3100(malaysia)) have a similar range, with larger specter of capabilities, especially in ASW.

@@Tagadarealty Lol, "completely failed design", "restricted to twelve knots". A) that's a load of fake-news a.k.a wank a.k.a fabricated lies and B ) you can't even put a sentence together. Trump supporter perchance? Because you sure tick all the boxes.

@@rocketassistedgoat1079 It's probably because it's a great success that the USN try to cancel the LCS program since years...

@@Tagadarealty It's aluminium [burns easily-all sailors hate that]-a tradeoff for it's light weight/green and brown water ability, the mission modules weren't as plug and play as advertised, and the navy's decided it wants blue water ships to counter China-hence the switch in acquisition to much heavier, larger and better armed Frigates. That's an honest assessment of it's flaws.
Nonetheless, some of those things you might have noticed aren't flaws, but conscious design decisions; the tonnage is similar to that of a WW2 Gleaves class destroyer, which fought for months in the green water environment of Guadalcanal in 1942. Those were the bread and butter nightly battles, fought by destroyers on both sides of under 4000 tons. Only occasionally were cruisers committed i.e you'd send a frigate in there, let alone an Arleigh Burke (a Light [4000] and Heavy [10 000 ton] Cruiser by WW2 standards, respectively). You can even send LCS up some rivers, and each one has three armed drones and a couple of helicopters plus numerous speedboats and ample space for Special Forces. It's a different kind of ship for a different mission. It can also sail in these littoral waters as a picket, if a part of the fleet. But it's designed to be mostly independent, but never too far from a blue water ship for fire support. There's simply nothing else like it, except perhaps a Corvette. But LCS is roomier, has the endurance to keep up with the fleet and is fully oceanworthy.

Corvette is not a simple definition.
The Gowind is a very small frigate, she can do a lot with a great endurance.
And the Gowind design is in range from 1000 to 2500 (even 3100 for malaysia)tps.
