Yeah but we italians know that most of the houses that are being sold for 1 euro probably will be demolished by earthquakes in the future and all of them require renovations for more than 50k euro. We would like to buy a house for 1 euro in our own country and make small places revive their old glory, repopulating countryside zones, but it's just not worth it. This initiative has been around for more than a decade now, and 95% of the house are still inhabited, crumbling on themselves. Sometimes new it is actually better. You like the old medieval look? You can buy mats and build something safe that won't crush on ur head at the first earthquake. Fyi we still have homeless people from earthquakes that happened 30+ years ago and we had several cases of whole population centers that fell down lately (Amatrice, L'Aquila and so on...)... There are a lot of reasons for not taking advantage of this initiative....
Older is most often made better than new. The craftsmanship meant more in some countries decades ago and you can see it. 😎
I love your thoughtful, respectful and most all, sensible approach to renovation for an older home❤ I too love the floor and wall tiles. And the eyebrow window accentuates that special wall in Lucia’s room. It’s wonderful.
You were so wise to have not 1 but 3 engineers inspect.
The neighbours must love seeing the house come back to life.
You are not crazy--you are adventurous. There are no obstacles to hold you down. What a beautiful way to live. The celebrations were so beautiful. There is nothing like living in a small community of people who become family. Luce is precious with the cats. See you next Sunday!

This must be the fastest progress of Italian renovation i have seen here on RUclips.I follow a lot of renovations and many people take years.I guess you did a good job finding a house that doesn't require much work and also finding good builders.Congratulations . love those Kitchen and bathroom tiles
They aren't knocking down walls and trying to build a modern house in a shell. They are keeping it close to its original look. Also, if you treat people like family, they treat you like family.

Those tiles are fabulous. I think the ones in the kitchen are really nice and you will grow to love them. Really great progress. Such a good idea to take advantage of this town house. You will have a lovely retreat from your work on your land.
Absolutely keep those kitchen tiles. They are part of the history of your amazing new home. I love the bathroom tiles as well.

I love your attitude about "respect". We have found that traveling the world has given us the opportunity to see that with respect you can make new friends and gain an understanding of the differences between different cultures and people. You can gain so much with just a little RESPECT. I admire you for your "can do" anything attitude too.

Wow, guys! Such a beautiful journey. I love the village you're in and the church bells ringing, I love that sound. They could ring at night and wouldn't bother me. Your house is so gorgeous. To live in such an old house, the stories it could tell, the history. It was a great idea to buy and renovate such a treasure. Can't wait for you to move in. Luce is getting so big, and she's so adorable.
You both work so hard on your gem of a house with amazing results, and the life you are creating for Luce in this beautiful community! It was interesting hearing about the layout of old houses. I initially thought you might swap the kitchen with the bedroom for a kitchen with a view & opening onto the living room .. but it makes sense with allowing for a breeze etc for hot weather for sleeping!. So much character & history and you are finishing to a high standard. If anyone can do it, you can! I’m so happy for you.

I think in many old houses the children’s room was right off the parents room, or accessed through the parent room. Your explanation that the little room would be warm in winter and cool in summer makes sense.
How did you ever find such a perfect village + VIEWS. And you are so quickly adapting to life in this village. Honestly you found a great place.

This is a very fast renovation. I hope you can maximize all the space you have. That basement, once finished would be great for storage. The balconies look wonderful. I can't wait to see the final results on all the rooms and the way it's going that won't be long. Beautiful home and you already have made friends with the neighbors. I love it that there are nearby cats for Luce to watch. She really seems to love them.
The basement could also have some exercise equipment in it so YOU could get into shape!!!

When you eventually get rid of the storage cupboard and extend the old bathroom, I think it would be better to put the bathroom into the old kids room. 1 door from the master bedroom and one door from the kitchen. Then the old bathroom which would be extended into the hallway, would be a great bedroom for your little girl.
Who could possibly think you are crazy?! Only people who have no vision, no sense of adventure. Totally agree... you have to treat those who are helping you with respect. They know things you don't know. They have skills that you can learn, from them. You treat people with gratitude and kindness and see how the relationship grows.
Luca is right, that water is beautifully clear. Got to love the stones & pebbles and sweet Luce.

Hi from France, of course italians workers are very good, it is your job to find the good ones. Love your house it will be the best place in the end as your land property with olive trees too. Can't wait to see the next episode. Please keep the tiles in the kitchen they are so vintage. I understand why Y choose not far from the sea, I live by the sea in Brittany and it is wonderful every day.

This house reminds me of a house I lived in when I was a young girl. It had large rooms with high ceilings and it had been used as a funeral home at one time. I love the village and the amazing views. Thank yo so much for bringing us, your you tube family, along on your journey each week and allowing us to see Luce growing up.
That middle room could be a storage room. In Croatia they call it Konoba (they very much followed Italian traditions). i remember my grandmother's house having something like that. They used to be rooms next to the kitchen and had supplies, Sugar, flour, dry bread, some vegies, some wine, spices etc. I think it is closer to that and probably thats why it was completely separated from the other rooms. Probably is your turn now to close the other door and create a walk-in closet lol Great Project guys
Interesting tradition! I lived in an old Italian neighborhood near San Francisco, where the house was built similarly, and the kitchen was the heart of the house with a little room attached to it for those purposes apparently.
In English the word for that storerom is called the pantry.

This will be a welcoming home very soon. You could always paint the kitchen tiles that you don’t like. Ask at a paint store how to prepare the tiles for that. Blessings…🌺💜🌺

I think I start all my comments saying how adorable Luce is. I could watch her all day! So exciting to see so much progress on your new home. Italy has so many beautiful villages; the history of the village where your home is would be fascinating to learn. I am so happy for you and soon it seems you can live there once the kitchen and bath areas are finished. I am always impressed how capable Luca is and just plunges in to do the work like ripping out the wires and then the installation of the copper pipes for the kitchen. It’s nice to see someone actually LIVE in their neighborhood instead of just putting the house up for rent or sale after renovating. You’re not just rebuilding a house, you’re building a HOME! Can’t wait to see what you do with it.
P.S. PLEASE keep the kitchen tiles with the red flowers. If you want to remove them maybe repurpose them somewhere else where it would work better for you? Or sell them to someone who would use them instead, they’re just too precious to destroy 😭❤

My Uncle, he is 85, born in Bari and came to this country in 1956, learned construction and did that for a living for over 50 years. He told me it’s not that much to fix them up as long as the building is sound and not cracked. Auguri Luca on your name day! I miss all the feasts in Italy. They are wonderful! Oh, quanta e Bella quell’aqua. I also love squash flowers fried with bread crumbs and egg. All the neighbors are so nice there. They love to see new families. Oh look at the kitties! They look so hungry! Then I see a bunch of young men almost running out with the statute of the saint. Oh my goodness they went so fast!! 😂 I’m used to see older people here carry the saint very very slowly. That was funny. I loved this video. Thank you so much for bringing my childhood back. I’m new to your channel and I’ve just caught up on all your videos. A few of them made me cry. You guys have been through some rough stuff 😢 but both of you are so strong. As a woman I was particularly touched by your video about eating disorders and I appreciate your honesty. I think we can all relate to the damage females are subjected to, due to the ridiculous expectations of social constructs! It’s awful, the bullying you suffered then and the bullying you’re currently experiencing from some people. Bully’s have a multitude of their own issues that they inflict upon others. Such amazing progress! Maybe as you move forward you can curate a list of workers for people who want to hire them for future work, as well as maybe your realtor. Or better yet, you could show properties to us that you feel are salvageable for those of us wanting to have a home there! You are becoming experts, and I know I for one would trust your guidance! Then if a home is bought through your recommendation, you could charge a finders fee. Just something to think about!

I"m so happy that your 2nd chance life is going so well & that you're giving this romantic sea view home a second chance, too. Love seeing the village celebrations; not a tourist attraction, but authentic village life. Good going Luca breaking the paper balloon & allowing the children to reap the benefits of falling treats. I think it will be good for Luce to grow up in a community and culture like you are providing for her, but I also believe you are likely planning on traveling at times so she will also understand there is so much more in this big world to learn about too. Bravo! I love the way you are teaching her empathy by feeding the stray cats although it seems she already has some natural empathy in her. She is a little sweetie and so adorably cute. And she couldn’t have asked for better parents.

We are an Anglo-Italian couple and indeed speaking the language helps.
