Richard Dean Anderson -- My Favorite 'Macgyver' Invention Was ...

- Richard Dean Anderson built some crazy things during his run as 'MacGyver,' but there was one invention that he says he'll always remember above the rest. Video provided by TMZ
I’m actually happy to see that he handled the whole situation very politely.
Polite? You act like he is supposed to treat these paparazzi with decency and respect? He is not a animal at the zoo to be gawked at when he is not acting
Why not. Just a fan wanting to chat. Why wouldn't one be polite? You're kidding right?
Would Trump fans be happy if he treats the MSM politely?
@@pat1589 the guy's just trying to get his groceries, shouldn't have to deal with people stopping him. I don't think people realize that they're probably cool with it, if it only happens here and there... however, while one fan thinks he's the only one, the next fan thinks the same, and the next fan after that. Before you know it, fans will drive you nuts. I think a bit of respect should be had to not bother them when they're just doing their thing. Plus, don't record people without their permission.
@@JimBob1937 no I disagree. Hes not the king, or president. In fact very few would recognize him now. Probably nice to have a chat with an old fan.
He just shows what a down-to-earth and tolerant he is. He also seems pretty humble.
And pretty fat.
Imagine bothering the man while he’s just trying to get groceries loaded in the car and asking him about his favorite part of something he did decades ago and expecting him to spit out an answer on the spot.
Typical TMZ jerks. Only thing they try to do is to bother Celebs
Bingo. It's just rude and pushy and obnoxious and disgusting.
@@moaningpheromonesI don't think he minded, so why don't you MYOB.
@moaningpheromones seems to me RDA didn't really mind answering questions. Camera guy was being polite and not pushy. SMH
He was just putting up with it.
Richard always kind and gracious even when being hounded by fans shopping.
You just say hello, and leave him alone, he goes shopping !!
Well we definitely needed to hear him get asked the same questions he's been answering for the last 30 years
why?? No... he'd actually finished shopping.
I agree...but I think I would have a minor nerdgasm...certainly wouldn't throw a camera in his face and ask questions
Just goes to show he has time for fans, absolute legend.
I Wouldn't Call a TMZ stalker a fan
@@angelusthor251 lol.
thats not a fan its paparazzi
tmz is scum, not fans
Richard had an amazing career. I’m glad he’s not just remembered for Stargate. MacGyver was awesome
True, but his version of Jack O’Neill in stargate is legendary lol.
Interesting, I always found most people, if they know him, know him from MacGyver.
Macgyver was what put RDA on the map. That was way earlier than stargate. So, most people, at least from my generation, associates RDA to Macgyver automatically. Not to mention it was an all original concept, made from scratch, that created a character that everyone even nowadays knows and recognizes. Is part of culture, MacGyver and his Macgyverisms. Stargate existed before RDA, it was not made for him nor something made from scratch fo him. Macgyver holds a way bigger legion of fans and left a legacy not comparable to Stargate. They are even two very different kind of shows. Macgyver, when it aired, meaning late 80’s and early 90’s, was huge. And had a big impact, because it was different and was something new, and RDA was amazing, it was so credible that you couldn’t tell the difference between the man and the character. He himself brought so many details of his own personality and interests to the character. I loved the show, it was the best tv show of my youth, and it was pretty inspiring, because you really learned values from it. That and the mindset that everything has a solution, the capability to improvise solutions to every day problems. I learned that from Macgyver. I’m 43 and still use that mindset. Not many shows had that, and it did have an impact in my youth. It still remains the best tv show of all times for me. And I still watch it. It might have some outdated details, but still a great show to watch. And you actually learn a lot from it.
What a good sport. I wrote for the series for 3 years - I was hoping he’d say one of mine 🙃. RDA was so great to work with
Thats great, obviously I'm not sure which ones you wrote, but you did a great job as ALL the episodes were compelling and fresh, always different and entertaining. I even copied his hair ! Hope you still write :)
Which 3 years?
You did?
MacGyver is certainly one of the best TV series ever. Because it was something special that nowadays not would be produced anymore. I watched it very often when I was a kid in the 90s. In retrospective I've realised that there were many important topics in the different episodes like enironmental problems or cultural problems like racism. I don't know any other TV series in this format. Today I guess something like that would be too expensive and intelligent. They rather produce cheap TV sitcoms like Bing bang theory which make them rich in short time.
You said you wrote for 3 years for the series? For the screenplay? Or ideas with bombs or inventions? How was the guy who played Murdoc or Jack Dalton? Were they also nice to work with?
@@KoopaXross per IMDB 87-90
Was told by someone, whom I had worked for a long time ago that had worked as an extra on the set on just one of the episode, had said Mr. Anderson was a very personable guy and very nice to extras on the set, and didn't act like the usual snobbish celebrities. Now I finally believe what he had said.
I believe this too. Thats why he said no to the second run of the series. It was based in vanity and greed, not virtue and love. Some kid in his 20's expecting to know what a man in his 40's like McGuyver would have was ridiculous. New kid was a show pony, not a stallion.
@@143AD tru, factual, and based
RDA is a nicer man than I could ever hope to be.
Why??
The way he was nice and friendly to this random fan shows he is a better person than almost every other actor.
That must suck, to be chased around the grocery store parking lot by some nerd.
He's just a fan
Like it or not, it's part of the job of being an actor.
@@realx1311 If he was just a fan he'd let him finish answering a question before starting the next one, and he wouldn't be videoing it.
@@grantmalone Yea, he didnt even shake his hand. Didnt ask for permission to shoot him. He likes the show which the actor does not like that much. Didnt mention stargate...and didnt asked for a selfie.. im pretty sure this guy is not that big of a fan xD
@@jediknightjairinaiki560 He's retired, though.
Say what you want... I enjoyed this moment of watching Macgyver come out of retirement for a moment to turn a gas powered device into a grocery delivery system!
"I stole a bunch of swiss army knives..."
@Peter Möller Me too ! :)
They were noit cheap in 85' believe me.
What a guy! I mean - if it had been me, I would have shown my annoyance with being interviewed on the spot while packing groceries in the car - lol.
Don't worry! He was packing a weapon! After all, the man is an honary General from the Us Air Force! Airman 81.
Anybody walking up to your car and they say they are whatever. They might not be who they say they are.
Well. I usually hate TMZ shit but this photog was actually respectful. “Mr. Anderson” and offering to push his shopping cart back. Guy wasn’t a total douchebag. Gotta give him credit for that.
@@adamJKpunk Probably just wanted to pocket the coin you get for returning it.
"MacGyver was/is the best tv show ever! In my country, whenever you had to face some difficult situation, we Brazilians used to say "Vou dar uma de MacGyver ("I'm gonna handle it in MacGyver's style") ! (gilberto lehrer from brazil)
I remember that they even referred to MacGyver in SG-1 in one of the episodes.
That is such a wonderful thing and i LOVE to see that positive global influence one TV show role can have :)
They referred to MacGyver in the very first episode of Stargate SG-1 😹😹😹😹
Kudos to RDA for not going full "I'm a celebrity" on the guy imposing on his private life. I like to think he's just a nice guy who doesn't mind if members of the public recognise him and ask for a selfie but this kind of ambushing would rub most people the wrong way.
TMZ is not a member of the public it's a fake news stalker groups main mission to stalk celebs for fake news
@@angelusthor251 how do you know the video was not just sold to TMZ? TMZ advertises they buy videos for cash. If you video something you can email them a portion of the video and they'll cut a deal with you. you could get 5k-250k for a video depending. TMZ buys the video and slaps their logo on it and owns it.
@@u235u235u235 I would say a guy who videos his entire interaction with a celebrity, and KEEPS asking questions when he's clearly ready to go would be just the type of guy to sell the video to TMZ...makes sense
classy NICE GUY so generous with his time GOD BLESS YOU RICK!
If you're gonna bug him dude, at least ask some decent questions.
I bet he was planning to at first but talking to him, he turned to a fan boy. Happened to me on a movie set when I met Seann William Scott
Disagree, 'Dude'.
I still carry a swiss army knife every day in my pocket because of Macgyver.
I do from time to time as well!!
I have 2 I use commonly and a heavy duty military version.
Wow, He was ambushed but was very polite and you could tell he just kept working his way out of the lot. You know he probably doesn't like it but he was respectful to his fan.
could have asked him if he minded to chat.. i hate people
he handled it well
If you choose that line of work, you should. Comes with the territory.
@@143AD I'd still get annoyed. Especially in your retirement years when you think you'd finally get some peace.
@@morbo8777 ...I will concede that what I think was rude was the camera. He didn't care about Richard D., he just wanted to film him to make money on here. Bad form, IMO.
I learned everything I could, and became an ace at cobbling things together in an emergency, just because of him.
me too!!
I like how he actually talks to his fans
What a gentleman Richard is, total respect for the guy, he could have totally fobbed him off straight away. R.D.A. The ONLY macgyver. Hope he is doing well.. 🙏
He was always awesome in Minnesota. Never heard a bad story about him.
Congratulations !!! I am very much of your work ... I am from the city of Fortaleza Brazil, and the series in which you were the protagonist, was and still is today in Brazil, a great SUCCESS !!!
"I stole a bunch of Swiss army knives tho, and don't tell anyone".
Lol hes slowly escaping you ha!
They say " don't meet your idols" but I gotta say, i want to meet RDA. He seems like a cool, polite and patient guy.
I’m not crazy about people following movie and tv show cast members around like this with a camera in their face, but I enjoy seeing people like RDA talk about their work.
I would LOVE to run into RDA in a parking lot. What a dream come true!!! OMG!!!!
I grew up with MacGyver, Airwolf, Knight Rider.
I loved MacGyver most.
Yep, those were Father/Son primetime 📺 specials if you were a kid of the late 80's early 90's.
Yes it did. Like I forgot the keys in my room and locked it, I remember he used a credit card or bendable plastic and insert it in the door lock side and tried it, it works. Thanks Mcgyver!
I do agree with you today I lost my closet key 😭 so I MacGivered it with a hairpin and it worked .
I wrote for the show back in the day. Really nice guy fun times
So humble and still very witty.
I’m an avid fan of MacGyver, I’m happy to see you after so many years.... you’re still handsome Sir, 😊
"dont't you ever change, Macgyver" - Pete Thonton
This was 1of my favorite shows I would think about in school that I couldn't wait to get home to watch, helped me cope with boring as school which was a zilch academically!
Better take that cart back. Interrupt the man while he's buying delicious groceries and melting his icecream.
Ok I've seen loads of Richard Dean Anderson videos I'm going back to watch sg1 even though I've finished watching them last year lol
thomasrowe25
Pair it with Atlantis if you can
The shows intertwine at around season 6 of SG1
Ask if hes up for a quick couple of questions? From a big fan. Not nice putting someone in that spot with a camera up his face.
Anywho.. MacGyver 4 prez
Lol you do realize he's Vancouver born and raised yes?
Richard Dean Anderson was not born in Vancouver. He was born in Minnesota, and raised there.
He rode his bicycle to Vancouver when he was young. Maybe that's where the confusion comes in.
@@joshschneider9766 They filmed a good portion of the series in Vancouver...perhaps you're not recalling things correctly. My question: where was macgyver filmed From Google: Filming. The series was filmed in Southern California for its first two seasons and again in its final season. From seasons 3 to 6, it was filmed in various locations around Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. Los Angeles remained as the setting of the show for the entire duration.
My hero, if I see him it will be a great honor, thank Mac for be there
I love this guy for the work he did on Stargate SG1 .
My favorite scifi show of all time ! 🤩 and i have heard that he is the sweetest guy in real life
Hes so good and genuine right on the spot in person I got my Macgyver ringtone and watch him still most afternoons
Nice to see him again well and fine. My idol. I'm really so fascinated by the MacGyver concept (engineering skills, no guns, etc.). Sure most situations are kinda stretch but a reboot in the style of BBC's Sherlock would be interesting.
Please never reboot this unless it's all original cast, and even then only if they bring back original writers not some woke hipster who's gonna turn his character gay or some shit.
One of the nicest paparazzi ever haha. He seemed like a genuine fan
cool guy
i just saw this, even though it was 2 years ago. they just dont make shows like this anymore ya can sitdown with the whole family, as well others shows in that era. he is the guy that can only play MacGver
Dude was annoyed and just wanted to load his groceries. I got a whole lot of “go away” vibes from him. Can’t blame him honestly
Yeah, honestly, I would have been a little awe struck myself, but not because of MacGyver (even though I'm an 80's kid and grew up watching it), but because I am a HUGE fan of the Stargate franchise!! I might have just tried to shake his hand and told him how much I enjoyed his work and left alone after that
He was my favorite character when I was a kid.
Oh! this was fun to watch. I am a fan!
You caught him while he was buying some groceries. He was trying to dip out the whole time 😂
Real legend,very polite
That was really nice of him to talk with you while he was doing chores.
Mcgyver, mi serie favorita de la infancia. Gracias Richard Dean Anderson! Saludos desde Argentina
I watch Macgyver every day. I love it
I absolutely 💯 love my Richard Dean Anderson MacGyver 💙 ❤ love it
MacGuyver just casually getting fkn groceries 🤣🤣
What a nice guy, glad the fan took the cart from him.
Fans from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
RDA obviously didn't want to talk but nevertheless managed to macgyver himself out of returning the cart by being so nice and congenial the interviewer offered to do it for him.
Such a humble guy!
I grew up in Minnesota. Most people are exactly like that… Except they aren’t world famous millionaires. Legendary.
when mcgyver came on i was aloud to stay up an hour later, i luved it as a child.
Jason B aloud or allowed?
Give props to tmz guy normal and respectful interview on the fly
Legendary! Miss being young damn, never missed a show!! 🙂
In a bunch of places, this coulda gotten cringe FAST. But, Mr. Anderson (that's fun to say) handles it so fckin well.
That's my MacGyver
Dean is a great guy, and this make me remembered the late Paul Walker
He goes by Rick, not Dean.
This man is doing his grocery, and you're bothering him to ask him that kind of question.
I love his kindness 🙂 if I were you I may ask for permission and say thank you at the end 😶
MacGyver, saudades dos anos 80, dos filmes, etc. Saudações do Brasil!
Richard Dean Anderson is a cool dude
i miss you so much my love idol. macgyver your one and only macgyver in the whole world i love you richard dean anderson.
That was awesome
Such a chill guy 😂👍🏻
Getting Richard to sign a Swiss army knife would be ultimate! I never met him but did work with a director friend of his, Andy Makita and a few other past Star Gate cast and crew memebers while filming Mr. Hockey.
MacGyver my favorite TV show
From Indonesian i love you Mr Anderson
geee his voice didn't change
I will ALWAYS love him.
God... it must have come as a huge relief for him when he got into SG-1 and someone else was tasked with the techno-babble 😂
If only all celebrities were this nice. He seemed shocked you just started watching them.
Let the guy go already!!
How gracious!
Thank you Mac
Best tv series ever!
I dont remember what it was. But I remember on news channel many years ago. There was a News Segment where a Person used a MacGyver invention to was either save someone's life or it was Their Life.
When I was like 10 or so my father brought me a letter one evening. To my surprise, it read on the envelope United States and the envelope contained Richard's photo with his signature on it.
I could hardly believe my eyes I could be holding something from the other side of the pond as well as something thats been sent by MacGyver, my childhood hero. With embarassement I admit I lost it and it is my dream to write to R.D.Anderson and ask for a second chance. At that time I had a less than a basic Command of English, nonetheless more luck to have received his autograph. I would appreciate Richard's addresss so that I could write once more... Thank you
I like Mr. Richard Dean Anderson. 🙂 He is cool. 👍
Out of all the interviews with him, this was the best and most sincere, IMO. And no grifting. Thats what he stood for and why he said no too the vain second McGuyver starring that young smart arse that failed.
Gracias Mac por todas las cosas buenas que enseñaste en la serie, yo he tomado buena nota y la verdad es que la gente flipa con la Idea de echar una mano siempre,. No hay problema 👍
General Anderson!
Dean is great! Thanks Dean!
Its Richard.. Dean is his middle name..
he answers to Dean as well
Love him
The must release the entire series on bluray
You could have asked him how many cheeseburgers it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop
