Eddie Van Halen(RIP) is widely considered one of the best guitarists of all time. He was once asked in an interview what it's like to be the best guitarist in the world. He said, "I wouldn't know. You'll have to ask Prince."
They're from Pasadena, CA. This song was #1 top 40 in 1984. The drummer (Alex Van Halen) is the older brother of the lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen, considered one of best rock guitarists of all time. When the brothers came over with their dad from Holland as young boys, they got bullied in school because they didn't speak English. They're both classicly trained pianists and their dad is a professional musician. As teenagers, they listened to American rock music and started learning drums and guitar.
Eddie was also a play-by-ear virtuoso on piano from a young age, to the point that his piano teacher was convinced that Eddie could already read music. That rouse lasted for some time, until the teacher realized Eddie didn’t actually know when to turn the sheet music pages.
I was 17 when Jump was playing at the nightclub, and we girls did not have alcohol or anything else than water, and we danced from 12pm to 4pm on Friday night, just having good healthy fun!! Loved the 80’s!!❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Van Halen is made up of brothers Eddie (guitarist) & Alex (drummer), David Lee Roth from California & Michael Anthony (bass & incredible backing vocals) lived in California. Eddie & Alex's dad was from the Netherlands & their mom was Indonesian. They were born in the Netherlands & the family moved to California when they were kids & didn't speak English. They were a musical family, learned classical music from young ages & then started playing rock music, formed a band in L.A. then finally met the 2 other guys & formed Van Halen. Considered one of the most popular rock bands ever. Their entire 1st album is fire as is the album '1984' which this song is from. Pick any song from those albums & you'll enjoy yourself. Many other hits on their other albums, too. After 1984 David Lee Roth left & they got a new singer, had a lot of hits, too, but many prefer the era w/David Lee Roth the best.
This is one of Van Halen's biggest hits, but not the best indicator of what most VH songs sound like. These guys were always having a blast, but some of the most killer, serious musicians you'll come across. You want bangers from VH? Just close your eyes and randomly point at a song. Seriously. Go for Hot For Teacher, official video next. What the hell..😂😉
My favorite Van Halen song is from their first album in 1978, Ain't Talkin' Bout Love. Other songs of theirs to check out: Hot for Teach (Official Video) 1984 Runnin with the Devil (great harmonic vocals) 1978
We were all jumping along with this when it came out. These guys were high on life! The 60’s, 70’s and 80’s were a Renaissance of popular music. The 90’s had some good music but looking back it definitely slowed down and autotune eventually destroyed most creativity, diversity and excellence in music. When you have real musicians and singers working together in a room they feed off each other and come up with things that defy logic and are purely human in nature.
You would love to listen and watch the videos of “Panama” and “Hot for Teacher” as they take fun to a whole new level with great music !! Van Halen was the ultimate party band and they are always having so much fun while they perform !! Great positive energy !!
I graduated from highschool and started college in 1984, at age 17. There was never a better time for music. It was the middle of the greatest decade of music in all of history. Today's music is sad and pathetic. Whenever I think about what songs I would have in my list of 5 or 10 favorites of all time, this song always ends up at the top. There were hundreds of unbelievably great songs in the 1980's, but this one stands out, for me. Some of it was because of the video, on MTV. Some of it is because of personal reasons, but it just is an outstanding song and every time I hear it come on the radio or at Walmart, or wherever, it brings my mood up, and brightens my day. I was very sad that Eddie Van Halen passed away, but it is great that I can watch new fans react to this video and this great song.
I was 6 when the Beatles came. My mom indulged my brother and I love of Beatles and eventually got little radios and listened to top 40 all day long. When I hit my teens I was a total Zep head.. Loved all that stuff. In the eighties it was everything from punk to new wave to Jump!. And the nineties.and the great music from then. Decades of the best stuff. The most creative, talented and amazing music. Then the 2000s came and we got AI, auto tune, blackballing of groups and lackluster mediocre talented musicians controlled by record execs. Nothingness. No wonder my 14 year old granddaughter loves Bohemian Rhapsody before she ever saw the movie.
Van Halen were amazing, especially from 1978-1984 before their first line-up change. So glad you love the song and fun they are having. You should also check out Panama and Hot For Teacher from the same album, you won't be disappointed. Love your work dude.🤘
Van Halen started in '78 with their debut album 'Van Halen'. It was an immediate, huge hit & Eddie Van Halen, considered one of the greatest guitarists ever, blew everyone's mind because he did things no one had ever done. Jimi Hendrix & Eddie Van Halen are the 2 guitarists who came along and changed everything after them, with all the guitarists after them incorporating their style into their own music.
it's such a big rabbit hole to go down but I would really love to see you react to the live version of their song called "Panama" next... it's even funnier than this video!
Yep, his first album came out in 1978, same as Van Halen's first album! I remember Prince from the very beginning, came out when I was in middle school. Prince was a true genius. Eddie Van Halen, as well.
Fit for a King with song “End (The Other Side)” please. These guys are amazing but have amazing songs and they even play amazingly even more when they perform on stage. These guys out you might really like them a lot they are metal core. They’re not that bad check them out. I love them!!!!
Recommend *Unchained Melody* by The Righteous Brothers. Live on the Andy Williams show 1965. The just over 5 minute clip is the best. The lead singer, David Lee Roth, also had a solo career.
please check out their video "Panama" ? super fun video they had a lot of fun back in the day.... we all did. 😊 also.... the lead guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, was a master of his craft and if you look up the " eruption guitar solo", it shows his amazing skill-- you will have your mind blown!
I should add that David and Eddie were at odds all the time and eventually David left the band. He never achieved the fame he had with Van Halen. And the frontmen for Van Halen never came close to the beloved status of David. Without each other the magic was gone and they were just very good band. But, together there was a magic
David Lee Roth has always been very theatric on stage....but yeah, he was probably on something. And Eddie Van Halen is one of the best BEST guitarists ever EVER!! Check out Eruption and tell me I'm wrong!
Singer is David Roth a.k.a Diamond Dave. He and the rest of the band had a falling out, lot of bad words between them. Roth was replaced by Sammy Hagar but in my opinion it just never was the same.
VH hot for teacher is a better song …not saying this one is not a good song.. all VH songs are good me but hot for teacher just rocks You asked how they sounded like that back then… lots of sex drugs and rock’n roll brother… lots….
Love your reaction, but please stop cussing. My Pastor and I share our love for music and now, music reactions and I can not send your reaction to my Pastor with all the foul language
That look is not meant for you, it's meant for the thousands of females who were throwing themselves at rock stars back in the 80's.
When you see David Lee Roth do the jumps and kicks among other moves you should know he has been a martial artist most all his life.
David Lee Roth, the lead singer, is a black belt in many martial arts
That truly was Eddie barely trying on that solo. One of his gifts was doing what serviced the song. No need for an elaborate solo on Jump.
Eddie Van Halen(RIP) is widely considered one of the best guitarists of all time. He was once asked in an interview what it's like to be the best guitarist in the world. He said, "I wouldn't know. You'll have to ask Prince."
He is the greatest...better than hendrix
That's not an Eddie quote. It's been misattributed to a wide number of guitarists.
Others say he said "I don't know ask Roy Clark." 😂😂
That is NOT something Eddie said. I do think Eddie is the best rock guitarist ever. IMO.
@@Confare like I said, he's "quoted" saying that about several guitarists.
You just witnessed the greatest guitar player who ever lived.
RIP Eddie Van Halen.
Eddie played the big guitar solo in MJ’s song, Beat It.
But just the solo , the rest of the song was Steve Lukather from Toto, it was basicly Toto that played on that whole album
Van Halen was known for clowning! 😎🙌
Hot For Teacher is a great example 😆 song rocks and video is young boys dreams 😁
As a kid, for a while he even had his piano teacher fooled into believing he could read music, but was actually relying on his play-by-ear talent.
Check out “Hot for Teacher”. Also “Eruption”, a guitar solo by Eddie Van Halen, considered one of the best guitarists of all time!

It was a 80’s jam.only those of us who were lucky enough to be around, get it.
The reverb and synthe no autotune and you know it was the 80s or its early stages the late 70s pop rock.
This was a monster song in the mid eighties.
David Lee Roth was so much fun as a frontman.
Eddie Van Halen is super creative
These guys were huge.
I was 17 when Jump was playing at the nightclub, and we girls did not have alcohol or anything else than water, and we danced from 12pm to 4pm on Friday night, just having good healthy fun!! Loved the 80’s!!❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
One of the biggest hits in the 80’S and the lead singer was hot as hell. 🔥

The best guitar player of all time😮
Let’s have a line of something, smoke something, drink something and go out on stage and have some fun. Yeah, that sounds like Van Halen.
This is one of Van Halen's biggest hits, but not the best indicator of what most VH songs sound like. 😂😂 “What the hell” That killed me man. Perfect summation of VH.
the 80's we're about fun
1984 was so huge in music, movies, shows, world topics... miss those days
Van Halen was awesome... I still miss Eddie Van Halen everyday 💔
Dave is one of the best all time front men of all time and also Martial arts expert hints why he can do the moves he does
My favorite Van Halen song is from their first album in 1978, Ain't Talkin' Bout Love.
Other songs of theirs to check out: Hot for Teach (Official Video) 1984
Runnin with the Devil (great harmonic vocals) 1978

David Lee Roth was a great front man and a huge ham for the camera! 😂😂
In case nobody mentioned it. Eddie Van Halen did the guitar on Michael Jackson song BEAT IT
This was 1984, this was their last album with frontman David Lee Roth
Almost every song on every album were bangers.
Huge album... #80sRock ... wore out my tape back n da day🤘🏽
they had so much fun when they played, you can tell
and I love the lead singer David Lee Roth --he was such a ham!! 😅
David's voice is nothing compared to their other songs with his cool scream singing.
You would love to listen and watch the videos of “Panama” and “Hot for Teacher” as they take fun to a whole new level with great music !! Van Halen was the ultimate party band and they are always having so much fun while they perform !! Great positive energy !!
I have been to Van Halen concert. U right. Just a lets party rock band. True party band. Yes Cali
The singer is a karate black belt in two styles

The late great Eddie Van Halen on guitar and keyboards!
You want to see fun? Watch their "Panama" video.
David Lee Roth the lead singer has taken martial arts since he was young.
Van Halen were amazing, especially from 1978-1984 before their first line-up change. So glad you love the song and fun they are having. You should also check out Panama and Hot For Teacher from the same album, you won't be disappointed.

Prince started in the late 70s I think. Though 1984 was when Purple Rain came out.
Yep, his first album came out in 1978, same as Van Halen's first album! I remember Prince from the very beginning, came out when I was in middle school. Prince was a true genius. Eddie Van Halen, as well.

David Lee Roth was a Blue Belt in Krav Maga: "Jew-jitsu" (Israeli Mossad self-defense;)✊💙
I should add that David and Eddie were at odds all the time and eventually David left the band. He never achieved the fame he had with Van Halen.
And the frontmen for Van Halen never came close to the beloved status of David. Without each other the magic was gone and they were just very good band.
