It would help if they actually discussed what Ange spoke about: Newcastle - "handball" leading to equaliser. In their day, it would've been handball, likely without question but play on in 2025. Liverpool - Ange spoke about when advantage is played, they fouling player won't receive a yellow card (and being told this by officials). The fouling player would normally receive a card, regardless of advantage being played or not. 2 simple incidents yet unheard by the panel 🥱 Great stuff. 🙃 Lastly, Ange did talk about how well his team played, Bergvall, Gray etc after Bentancur's injury, and how good Liverpool are, although not to get carried away. It's only half time in the tie with a trip to Anfield to come. Good performance and result, albeit somewhat fortunate.
Sure, except the panel would rather discuss Ange's hypocrisy - it gets more views. Both Shaka and Craig were correct in calling it out from one game to the next, that's why they spent so much time on it. Talking about the facts of the game are kind of boring to most viewers who watched the game. Ange isn't acting in good faith here, he's trying to have a bit each way as we say here in Aussie land. I like Ange and hope he does well, but he is clearly feeling the pressure at the moment and using deflection tactics and talking out of both sides of his mouth. So much so that again the panel correctly pointed out the most cringey part of the presser where he was back tracking and trying to explain away what he said post Newcastle. It was so obvious to everyone that he felt emboldened by the really good result, but that's the time that he should stuff the ego back down and just keep quiet. Again, he's clearly feeling the pressure at the moment. Then he started going on some weird diatribe about being a lone warrior fighting the good fight for the good of the game. It's all very unnecessary and just guff, he's employed by Tottenham to coach and win, no one employed him to do whatever that is. Focus on making Tottenham better.
The "no yellow card if advantage" rule is in line with fouls in the box, fouls on fast breaks etc: if a player keeps his feet, no penalty or yellow etc. So really, the refereeing of the game leads to players choosing to dive in order to receive the foul, because the foul is more advantageous than the advantage 90% of the time. It's the action, not the consequence, that should be judged.
So based on what Ange is saying. Robertson should not have been given a straight red card against Fulham in the EPL game since the ref played advantage but Fulham didn't eventually score as VVD cleared the ball off the line. Ange is just talking nonsense. It favoured his team. Rather than twist the rules, he should own up that the ref helped his team.
@@ikennaalex2843 it was a straight red for Robertson, not a yellow, so not what ange was talking about. Everyone who follows football should be interested that there is an unspoken rule being applied by refs, and ange exposed that. Good for him.

@@CG-fx9bl It's Fergie 101. He's deflecting the attention off of the players AND he's got the commentators talking about ref decisions. Do this enough and all of a sudden the 50/50 decisions start going your way because the refs don't want the heat turned on them for the next week. Every manager tries to do this no doubt but some do it better then others and Fergie was the GOAT at it.
@@mkf628 🤣 let’s try again. The guy above says he’s protecting the players from developing inflated egos, when he’s more likely protecting his own fragile ego & inability to accept criticism, by focusing on every decision that goes against Spurs, instead of focusing on adapting to the opposition’s game plan.
I’m with Ange regards these changes. The ref talking to the stadium explaining the decision reeked of American Football. What is next stoppages for ads during the game? Whilst VAR has been around for a while the CL use is less intrusive on the game compared to what’s happening in England. Video quality is not good enough yet as shown on still shots. We’ve had VAR here in Australia for decades in Cricket and Rugby League. It is still getting decisions wrong more than it gets right. I’m happy with the automated offside and goal line technology but until the video technology improves the VAR bunker should be moth balled for now.
All the changes made in football over the past 15 years have been made specifically to appeal to American TV audiences, which is also the case with the modern day obsession with so-called "stats".
I’d much rather hear the referees explain subjective decisions like why Bergvall was carded fouling Díaz but not carded fouling Tsmikas. Instead of referees explaining, like Craig correctly pointed out, objective decisions like offsides that are rubber stamping very black and white decisions once the lines are drawn.
Ya rules leave room for interpretation, if the ref feels that the foul was not overly aggressive, and plays advantage then he doesn’t go back and book a player for disrupting the transition which would normally be an automatic yellow. Subjective for sure but there is an argument that he was correct to not give a second yellow
This is the joke of VAR. It's made nothing better and it's only more confusing now. If VAR was a challenge system, Ange would have challenged the first one, as he did in the game. He saw there wasn't contact and it was a dive by Diaz. Slot would have challenged the second one and he'd have got his first yellow card and Bergval would have scored a legal goal. 🙂
The inconsistency is deliberate. So-called ''human error'' is almost never a factor with these highly trained professionals with monitors and replays available. Inconsistency deliberately allows manipulation of results and in my view some kind of organised crime is behind the ''inconsistency'' and ''human error''. It needs to be investigated accordingly. Bergvall's ''goal'' proves referees can choose which team wins or drops points, depending on the requirements put on the referees of the day: had he missed or,or the effort saved, he would have been booked. As it was, a booking would mean disallowing the goal and a goal means uncertainty in the result. Spurs travel then to Anfield with an advantage which is more interesting to betting , than a defeat or draw would have been. That is my personal view and I can see no other good explanation.
@@Henry-sg9ifPeople were always moaning about offside decisions and blatant pens going in the favour of the big teams. VAR has reduced that. It's the refs who operate the VAR who are actually the problem.

Surprising to hear the panel say VAR hasn't changed the game. Whatever you think of Ange, VAR has changed the game. E.g. we now have double celebrations because we are waiting for VAR decisions, we have long periods of active play after an obvious off side decision because refs have been instructed to give the benefit of the doubt, and we wait minutes for play to resume because of VAR breaking up play and resulting in a lot of extra time. How has the game not changed? Just because you want to roast Ange doesn't mean you ignore something that obvious.

Its funny how very few people are mentioning the obvious.... he shouldnt have been on a yellow in the first place. I dont see a decision in favor of a guy "should have been sent off" when he shouldnt have been on a yellow in the first place
Why not give some more goals to the beautiful game; VAR draws lines from the attackers body where he can score from, but draws lines from the furthest part of the defender’s body - give offense a slight edge on offsides
I usually just listen to the panel and enjoy the show and jokes. But I am 110% against VAR. Minimizing the mistakes is the intention, but now referees are less accountable and many of them simply don't take an action assuming the VAR will interfere if "it's a hauler"! And the VAR panel say, well we support the ref because we don't want to referee the match ourselves. Also, the game is losing a lot of the spontaneity. And since there is a lot of money involved, get competent referees, and make them accountable. They make the same mistakes over and over!
These guys are the worst “football experts” on the web. They often don’t understand the rules themselves and criticise managers for having a problem with them. Absolute 🤡
You cannot say VAR isn't bad and then talk about how there are lots of problems with it. It is bad, very bad, just watch a few games before it was introduced, you will enjoy them. The eye test is signigicant for changes. If you see games before the back pass rule came in, then you can see how good that rule is, it passes the eye test. VAR came in with the promise of perfection and it should be held to that standard. VAR defenders cannot have their cake and eat it, VAR disrupts the momentum of games and we have weird adjustments like playing in when a player is offside which takes up game time (which can unfairly advantage teams). I am wasting my time though, unfortunately we will not go back so we just need to try to get VAR working the way it should and things will not improve if stupid pundits criticise coaches for speaking up, the pundits should be saying things need to improve instead of focusing on coaches reactions all the time.
Postecoglou wanted to distract the critics and commentators. He has copped a lot week to week (ange in and out) and so have players (Johnson son, kulusevski, dragusin). The commentary for the next week is this. The narrative is now dominated by this going into FA cup and Arsenal. He took the air out of the euphoria for the win and levelling it out. People want the right decision so does Ange. But whoever is using VAR really needs to know the rule with an element of common sense eg the handball. I understand he rationalised the bergvall 2nd yellow on the basis the ref played advantage- I don’t know if that is right but he has changed the narrative. Well done
Lil fella better worry about the script and make sure to prepare his players to put on a Netflix oscar worthy bottling in the next leg that's all we ask
Craig incorrect states that Ange said he is the only one 'flying the flag'. Ange said he is the most conservative about change, Ange wants to go back to pre VAR, I cannot hear anyone on ESPN or coaches publicly confessing that the are that conservative. Smarten up Craig
lol I can’t believe these guys are paid to talk about the game. Ange is absolutely spot on. The English refs are killing the game. We get controversial calls week in/week out despite having VAR. The rules aren’t consistently applied and yet you all sit there and defend it? Pathetic! Very pathetic!
In focusing on the red card, people are ignoring the fact that Tsimikas came off, hence leaving Liverpool with 10 men, and that left Konate having to vacate his position to help out on Solanke, which afforded Bergvall the space to make his run and score. No team should ever suffer being down a man because the opponent committed a foul. That’s absurd.
Honestly , those so called expert are pathetic, he was referring the the VAR, and yes VAR has changed the game, and it is ridiculous, these days , a player cannot celebrate a goal, he has to wait forever what VAR says, this is not football anymore, I was in Ghana 4 weeks ago, went to watch a game of Football, how refreshing it was, no VAR, etc....
Managers should be given 2 challenges/appeals, 1 per half. Similar to the tennis rule. If the appeal is successful the team gets to keep the appeal/challenge to use it later in the half until its end. That way managers and their staff can help their clubs get justice for missed/wrong calls
Shaka : “ I don’t understand Ange’s point about VAR at all “ . Well Mr Hislop , explain the hand ball rule to us , and how many times has the FA tampered with it’s interpretation in the last 2 years ?
Oh so Craig goes to training sessions at spurs to know Ange’s training methods is causing injuries, what a load of BS. They not even listening to what Ange said.
Pointless discussion about VAR and offsides. That is settled and no prehistoric aussie will change that. The important discussion was the horrendous decision not to show Bergwall a red.
The amount of fouls committed against us without consequence is ridiculous, Ange is a 10000000% right there is no fairness or impartiality when it comes to Spurs.
Ange's point is VAR isn't SIMPLIFYING decisions. It is COMPLICATING them. A handball in the buildup to a goal is supposed to be a NO GOAL decision. Or is it? It was. But maybe it's not. WE DON'T KNOW THE RULES OF THE GAME ANYMORE! And WE are the people that keep the game relevant.
He has talked endlessly about his players performance and how good they are under pressure. So who cares about VAR. Why even talk about something that wont go away. What Ange is saying, just be happy with what we have as football purists. Its not really a debate
var is stupidly taking away good goals like the Solanke one in that match. Just come up with a rule that's reasonable, for the goal to be called off, not a couple of inches off=offside. They're ruining the game by taking goals from players and fans
Ange is wrong. The referee didn’t play advantage, the referee said it wasn’t a foul. VAR doesn’t review yellow cards, so it wasn’t reviewed. It should have been a yellow because it wasn’t in the final third and therefore couldn’t be an immediate goalscoring opportunity.
@@Kwami357 “When the challenge is made by Bergvall, referee Stuart Attwell appears to point at the ball to suggest the Tottenham player won it. There did not appear to be any indication of advantage being played, which he shouldn't do anyway for the second yellow. If the referee told the managers he played advantage and didn't show the yellow as it was stopping a promising attack, he's still admitting to an error.”
Not the first time Spurs won against LFC because of the ref and VAR incompetence and every time it happened, the coach said he doesn’t like to criticise the ref, VAR, blah, blah, blah. But when the decisions went against his team, he moaned like his team is the most unfairly treated by the offficials.
Saka sounds stupid, not understanding what Ange is saying, he is making out his comments are contradictory but he he just doesn't understand that one may disagree with a refs decision respectfully, that he is not criticising the refs. Craig refutes what the refs have said to the coaches with confidence, how would he know.
Imagine this is a football live show where they talk nothing about the football match itself espn needs to focus on the game not the noise around the game they spend the last few minutes talking about a press conference nothing about the match and the ref talking shameful
Ange can live and die on this sword. Spurs can gloat over this non-call and their 1-0 advantage coming to the hardest away ground in Europe. They still have to come to Anfield and speak as if its settled.
Postecoglou should just stop commenting on this becaude media outlets are too stupid to understand what he is trying to say. He and slot both alluded after the game that the new law they have been told by the premier league this year is that if a referee plays an advantage of a challenge then the referee can not go back and book that player. This is a new thing the Premier league have told managers. Thisnis what Postecoglou is saying. Whether you think it should be a second yellow or not. The rules that they have been told is that it is not a yellow card because the referee played advantage. Also I don't think the first yellow card was a yellow. Diaz dived. So not giving Bergvall a yellow for the 2nd challenge just cancels out the first
Wrong. Postenoclue is just waffling about BS and doesn't have a clue. He could have just admitted the ref's decision was wrong and move on. But no, he wants to try and take a high ride and look like and idiot.
@Urchinns interesting. VVD could have broken Solanke's leg by stomping on it. But no one seems to be talking about that though. He should have been sent off.
These old guys complain about modern technology so much.. It's the same technology that keeps players fit and help them play over 30 years without faltering.. Any football fans who thinks there will be unanimous support when referees make on field calls are both stupid and uneducated about sports in general. Sometimes you get calls and sometimes you don't and that should remain the uncalculated factors in outcomes. Support referees because they do their job with human fallabes, just like all of us. Punish these players for onfield acting and verbal jabs and the game will be better controlled.
Ange, did Dubavke get taken out by your player, no card? Tino taken out by your player, no card, then how about Gordon smashed in the face in the box, no pen or card.
For offside we know it works, because the human eye is demonstrably weak at reading angles in a moving game. Other than that, eh.... The rules are confusing.
why cant we question the refs decision? are they the righteous? never make mistakes? why did they make silly decision that affect the game directly when they should be the most neutral one on the pitch? is it for more media contain?? is it to attract attention for the league?? why cant we have a good football game without any strange or never been seen before decision that only happen in england?? why the refs feel like celebrities? they should be footballer if they want more pay or support their hometown team.. be a neutral for 90 minutes ++ is it that hard for the english refs?? use VAR when you in doubt.. nothing wrong with that.. use the technology to confirm your decision is the right one.. if your decision is wrong then admit it and retake it.. is this so hard?

The commentary for the next week is this. The narrative is now dominated by this going into FA cup and Arsenal. He took the air out of the euphoria for the win and levelling it out. People want the right decision so does Ange. But whoever is using VAR really needs to know the rule with an element of common sense eg the handball. I understand he rationalised the bergvall 2nd yellow on the basis the ref played advantage- I don’t know if that is right but he has changed the narrative. Well done
"Nothing has changed in the game" clowns the added time system has changed the goalkeepers protection have seemingly changed
He is right , liverpool had been consistent on decision against them therefore there must be somethings cooking behind the scene.
Unfair decisions do happen (Spurs have had a lot of bad calls go against them recently too) but no need for conspiracy theories.
Ange talks with so much gravitas, that sometimes you forget he's just mostly giving emotional reactions!
what he's saying is VAR interrupts the game unnecessarily
you still have a 2nd leg why all this DRAMA ?
Don't worry 😂😂
This shaka bloke makes my brain hurt.
Bandwagon jumping and mediocrity...
These guys should have been showed the full presser 😂😂
Lil fella better worry about the script and make sure to prepare his players to put on a Netflix oscar worthy bottling in the next leg that's all we ask
Craig incorrect states that Ange said he is the only one 'flying the flag'. Ange said he is the most conservative about change, Ange wants to go back to pre VAR, I cannot hear anyone on ESPN or coaches publicly confessing that the are that conservative. Smarten up Craig
Ange was talking about the ever-changing handball rule
Whenever I watch ESPN it's always they same sour old whinging negativity.
lol I can’t believe these guys are paid to talk about the game. Ange is absolutely spot on. The English refs are killing the game. We get controversial calls week in/week out despite having VAR. The rules aren’t consistently applied and yet you all sit there and defend it? Pathetic! Very pathetic!
What Ange is saying is we're changing the rules to suit VAR when it should be VAR evolving with the simplicity of the game!
These commentators are so ignorant
ESPN Banter FC at it again!!!
You were playing with words Ange!
How Ange has changed his stance.... Shameful 😂
Great work Ange. We have your back
The amount of fouls committed against us without consequence is ridiculous, Ange is a 10000000% right there is no fairness or impartiality when it comes to Spurs.
VAR in England is politics!
...did they not see the handball assist that led to the goal?
Ange's point is VAR isn't SIMPLIFYING decisions. It is COMPLICATING them. A handball in the buildup to a goal is supposed to be a NO GOAL decision. Or is it? It was. But maybe it's not. WE DON'T KNOW THE RULES OF THE GAME ANYMORE! And WE are the people that keep the game relevant.
Loss is never fun but I am glad that we won the league game. League is the most important priority for LFC fans
They did. Looks like you didn't watch the game 😂😂😂
@@Kwami357you do know that var cant get involved with yellow cards m8 and I did watch the match btw just saying 🤔
Yet, you won a Champions League final against Tottenham via a bad call. Karma
@ only spurs fans thought they deserve to win that match
Saka sounds stupid, not understanding what Ange is saying, he is making out his comments are contradictory but he he just doesn't understand that one may disagree with a refs decision respectfully, that he is not criticising the refs. Craig refutes what the refs have said to the coaches with confidence, how would he know.
Imagine this is a football live show where they talk nothing about the football match itself espn needs to focus on the game not the noise around the game they spend the last few minutes talking about a press conference nothing about the match and the ref talking shameful
Not even spot on all the time. I will take 50% at this point.
Ange can live and die on this sword. Spurs can gloat over this non-call and their 1-0 advantage coming to the hardest away ground in Europe. They still have to come to Anfield and speak as if its settled.
Liverpool are in trouble in this competition
I’m curious why VAR checked Solanke’s goal if the linesman didn’t flag. it really wasn’t a clear an obvious mistake 😎
Diaz dived. So not giving Bergvall a yellow for the 2nd challenge just cancels out the first
😂😂
Dived out the way of the tackle. Nearly chopped Diaz in half 💳 😂
Don't worry mate. The journalists won't understand this 😂
Good VAR take by Shaka
This was a cynical foul. He tried to stop the advantage to Liverpool. It was a second yellow. They got away with one.
Calm down guys. It’s gonna be a hammering for spurs at anfield ina month
These old guys complain about modern technology so much.. It's the same technology that keeps players fit and help them play over 30 years without faltering..
It's the same modern technology that revitalizes players even after ACL injuries contrary to what happened in the 20th century..
If he's tired of modern tech then he should give up his modern house, his phones, cars and bank account then go back to wearing medieval clothes, go to stadiums on horses and play

Ok lets say we remove VAR , are all the mistakes REFS make be gone or it will be worse without VAR ?
"as long that its not a cynical foul" what kind of a stupid aussie reasoning is that to say compared to the foul his player did
It's the reasoning of English referees
Craig who
Group think is an issue, when is the last time you saw a ref of going back and giving a yellow card this season, following an advantage?
I am with Shaka. I don't know what Ange is on about sometimes. I don't think Postecoglu is very bright.
How many levels of football employ VAR?
VAR is the best thing to happen to soccer
It is very strange that all the Spurs players get "flu" at the same time and Bentacur has some kind of stroke. What they jabbing them with?
And Quansah chest pain too. Meanwhile theres a strange like fog across the globe with unknown large particles in the air that have a plaastic burning smell.
@@noahide7256 Yeah. I think they might spraying stuff that makes us fatigued.
@@redzepp7881 the world ended in 2021. football is the only escape for me before my real escape.
Spurs played their guts out and got a 1-0. LFC barely got into 2nd gear. Other teams ought not to motivate LFC when the Anfield return leg is up next.
Craig your deciphering skills are poor on what Ange is saying
He is very right
Ange, did Dubavke get taken out by your player, no card? Tino taken out by your player, no card, then how about Gordon smashed in the face in the box, no pen or card.
Joelinton elbowing a kid to the head
For offside we know it works, because the human eye is demonstrably weak at reading angles in a moving game. Other than that, eh.... The rules are confusing.
Since VAR came which team get benefited most ? Liverpool
Does Burley say anything that is not obvious?
Liverpool lost but Arteta is the one giving excuses. Bias pundits
why cant we question the refs decision? are they the righteous? never make mistakes? why did they make silly decision that affect the game directly when they should be the most neutral one on the pitch? is it for more media contain?? is it to attract attention for the league?? why cant we have a good football game without any strange or never been seen before decision that only happen in england?? why the refs feel like celebrities? they should be footballer if they want more pay or support their hometown team.. be a neutral for 90 minutes ++ is it that hard for the english refs?? use VAR when you in doubt.. nothing wrong with that.. use the technology to confirm your decision is the right one.. if your decision is wrong then admit it and retake it.. is this so hard?
Ange take so different from Newcastle & Liverpool match 🥱
But the first yellow card was not a fowl
lol.. Ange Hypocritoglu
