Liverpool lost the league to VAR as much has Man City last year. Wolves battle relegation partially due to VAR. Mistakes still happen affecting huge decisions so why wait 5 minutes for them?

I think they need a time limit on VAr review. If it's not clear and obvious enough to make a decision withn 30 seconds then they stick with the call on the field. If the tech can't handle that pace then it's not ready. The problem is that they stopped making calls on the field because they rely on VAR to get things right instead of trying to stop them from getting it wrong.
Bring in the semi automated offside thing, along with linesmen allowing tight calls to play on, and scrap VAR. Good and bad calls will even out and VAR haven't made things "clear and obvious". Just my opinion, dont come at me.

As a Norwegian I'm not a fan of VAR. It tries to solve minor problems like 4 cm of offside. I liked VAR when it was first used to find "clear and obvious" cases. Take down penalties that's dubious and obvious offsides! Who can disagree about that? Now we wait (in Norway) for minutes to find if someone was 2 cm offside 20 seconds before the goal was scored. And if someone dives and acts like he was shot, that dude gets a free pass. Divers should be sent out and get a 5 match ban at default. Remove the things that embarrassing to the sport! Minor offside situations is not what makes footy bad.

If VAR functioned well, like it doesn´t in EPL, it could be useful. Btw. Finland don´t have VAR either. Goal line technology should be mandatory in all highest leagues.
The problem is not the technology it is the way the offside rule is defined. Offside should be defined like hockey - a line on the pitch. That would improve the speed and clarity of the decision. Besides - what kind of sport rewards defenders for running away from protecting their own goal? Fix the offside rule - is is not the technology!!
The implementation of VAR has been wrong everywhere. I don't know if it's anti-Americanism that keeps it out of discussions, but the NFL model is the only way to do it. Instead of another referee telling the on-field ref he's made a mistake, let the managers have a set number of challenges that they can use to challenge any decision they feel important enough to use up a challenge. Referees telling referees they messed up puts them in the wrong mindset. They go to the screen expecting to see HOW they missed the call instead of IF they missed it. Challenges by the coaches would never carry that same weight, and the stoppages can be limited to a max of 2 or 3 per team. The 4th official is standing right on the technical box. It would be the simplest implementation ever.
How can anyone be against VAR? Being against VAR is like saying you are pro wrong decisions made by the referee. This argument that it "kills the moment" is so stupid. Aren't correct decisions what matters the most? What if VAR intervenes and saves your team from conceding a goal or a penalty? Really stupid fans Norway have.
That assumes VAR always gives correct calls. Watch Doku kicking McAllister studs-up in the chest in the box directly affecting title race and neither ref nor VAR does nothing...that kills any argument for VAR at this point. Or when VAR did get involved and calls Diaz offside when he was clearly on. Or Romero clearly pulling Curcurella's hair in the box and Mike Dean on VAR team didn't say anything since his ref buddy had a bad game. No. Get rid of it. We watch sports for escape, not correctness. We still have loads of horrid calls and it takes much longer to get them.
So silly, OFFSIDE was created to prevent 'unfair offensive positional advantage' ... But having a knee or toe or finger past last defender is not that. The rule's implementation has upended the intent. As a lawyer, I see this all the time - the religious implementation misses the spirit of the rule. The best approach, imho, is to allow 6" (or whatever) leeway so noses, toes, arms etc. are not positional advantages. VAR can do that and address the silliness it has taken. (perhaps half-a-body's width?)
V.A.R and possession football has made the game boring to watch in the stadium, football is actually better in highlight format than it is live and that is a disgusting thing to be happening.

If VAR did their job and it went way quicker then people wouldnt have an issue with it. When it takes 4-5 minutes to heck an offside something is wrong. How hard can it be to get a system to check it right away.
