- This film tells the story of a lavish soiree in which a wealthy tycoon presents his son with the all new Granada Mark II, to gasps of admiration from the well-heeled party guests. We then see all aspects of the car's sophistication and performance through the eyes of various guests and the delighted new owner himself.
Truly this was a lost art in car advertising, no expense spared
Great film. Great car in its day,,,love this dated tripe type of film....such nonsense it’s a delight. More please...?
My Alltime Favourite Ford
I like the early Mk2 Granada with the slimmer bumpers and black plastic grille. Seems less fussy than the facelift model. Both wonderful cars though, my dad owned a few Mk2 Granny’s and I have fond memories of them.
What an amazing piece of work, beautifully produced, and establishes the target market very nicely. Tells the story without a single word of voiceover too!
Perfectly summed up
You mean the fantasy target market?
Great looking car although I prefer the mark 1. Love how the F4 phantom turned into a Jaguar and then a buccaneer. Nice editing.
ein toller reisewagen 😀
A U.K. spec. 1979 diamond white Granada 2.8 Ghia was the first car I ever bought at 18 yrs of age in 1984 (FPU 606T). I then bought a facelift X-reg. 2.8 Injection Auto in Cardinal Red (VRK 282X). In hindsight, I think I now prefer the cleaner Ines of the smaller bumper original ‘77-‘81 cars…
I had a 2.8 Ghia X Beautiful car Ever so comfortable to drive
Superb car Dave, and the Granada sapphire two tone was also to die for..I was a young Saturday boy at the local Ford showrooms at that time. Happy memories!
Slightly bizarre looking pre-production car used at the start (rear bumper doesn’t fit, with extra rubber ‘fillers’ unpaired door frames etc) still, I was happy to get a Steak dinner at the Berni Inn for my birthday in 1978, so a New ‘Gran-ah-dah’ was beyond any mortals wildest dreams!
A very early or even pre-production example judging by the poor fit of the rear bumper and body colour B-Posts… In England we originally got the L, GL, iGL iS, Ghia, i Ghia trim levels and extremely underpowered 2.1 diesel models for use as taxis. The iS was effectively a L with the fuel injected V6 engine and a few extras e.g. tachometer, central console and armrest plus TRX alloys and tyres. The non-Ghia 2.8i models were then amalgamated into just one 2.8 iGLS model in 1979.
These weren't bad. Came with the 2.8 "Cologne" fuel injected engine, same as the Capri. Lots of tail-happy fun in the wet...
Romanticism in advertising got lost ... Or is this just cheesy 😃? Handsome cars nonetheless, I particularly like the GLS-version in green here.
This scene would be repeated in 1998 when a _normal_ dad buys this exact car for his son from the classifieds. ☺
Love the way the son gets a lovely motor as a present, the procedes to take his first drive behaving like a loon ,finding the most rough, rock strewn track,to try to chip its shiny paintwork & wreck the suspension.Looks like he succeeded,as the wheels @ approx 5.20 definitely don't look like the original Ghia alloys!
This is a film, not an advert
In the 90's I nearly swapped my Mk2 Mustang for a 2,8 i Granada on a "B" reg I think black with matching leather and low pro tyres .
The smaller diameter alloys on this Granada ghia spoil the stance of the car. The earlier larger diameter alloys of the same design like those on my 1979 Granada Mk II 2.8i ghia out in the garage look a lot more impressive.

Hows come I wasn't invited?
Oh. 🥺
3:46 dodgy bumper fit!
Bet he would have not been a happy camper if it was a Diesel, taxi spec....
Back when Fords Marketing department was high on drugs
