lore of this music: Deadman's Chest is a small island in the British Virgin Islands on the Caribbean; this island has high cliffs, no clean water, no trees and its inhabited by pelicans and snakes. Local folklore tells of a history when Edward Teach (yes, Blackbeard) punished 15 man of his crew by marooning them in the island with one cutlass and one bottle of rum for each, when he returned after one moth, he was surprised to find that all the 15 man had survived (he obviously expected them to kill each another); hence the name, "Fifteen Man on the Deadman's Chest". I would put the link to the source here but i think its against youtube's TOS, unfortunately.
Although the song name is referencing it, there is no such local folklore to be found. The song originally came from Treasure Island, and was expanded later on
The lore of this is that it comes from Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island. It was a shanty sung by a band of pirates on the ship of Captain Flint. The only words RLS wrote were 15 men on a dead man’s chest Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum Drink and the devil had done for the rest Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum There was also written by RLS the words With one man of her crew alive What put to sea with 75 but it’s not quite clear if that is the same song. Many years later, a songwriter named Young Ewing Allison wrote the rest of the song. It tells of pirates coming across a bloody scene aboard a ship with 15 men dead. The first mate killed by the boatswain’s (bosun’s) pike, the boatswain “brained” (stabbed in the head) with a marlinspike (a sort of large sewing needle used for sail repair), Cookie’s throat having been gripped by fingers 10 (they choked him out) and they’re all laying there dead like “break of day in a boozing ken” where all the drunkards of the night before lay around in drunken sleep. The song tells of how the dead men are damned and the rest of the crew is “gone whist” and it describes more of the dead men. The skipper (captain) laid with his “nob in gore with the scullion’s axe in his cheek and shore” and the scullion (a low ranking person who usually worked with the ship’s cook) was stabbed 4 times. And they lay there as the rain drips into their dead, unresponsive, up-staring eyes. The song describes more who were killed with a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead, and a yawing hole (meaning a wide hole from side to side) in a battered head and how the bodies are stiff from rigor mortis. And the scupper’s glut (a part of the ship that is meant to let water flow out, but not in so the ship can stay afloat) was clogged up with a “rotting red” being the congealed blood of all the dead onboard. They lay there with their “lookouts” (being their eyes, or their aspirations) on “paradise” (or heaven) but the souls are bound contrariwise (being hell) The song references Pew, a character from Treasure Island and a member of Flint’s crew. It tells about all the treasure they found aboard this ship with the dead men surrounding it, and how they are unable to do anything about it as the pirates coming across the scene “shared all by the rule of thumb” The song tells of a dead woman found onboard stabbed in her “bosom spot” and questions who she could have been, a wench (a woman who was on ships for the people onboard to… play with… as they had a fancy) or a “shuddering maid” being just some scared hostage. But she must have been a “plucky jade” or a brave woman. The song tells what exactly those coming across this bloody scene did. They wrapped the dead up in a sail and “heaved them over and out of sight” into the depths of the sea and they sunk down “10 fathoms deep on the road to hell” YO HO HO AND A BOTTLE OF RUM!!!!

This really is the best version. If any one can help me out please do, I really want songs that sound just like this, real pirate songs. Also like hoist the colours. I love these songs with chants and all that:)
Great version! To those who wrote this sounds too disciplined, they are actually clueless about what pirates were! Successful pirates HAD to be a very disciplined bunch, because it takes a well synchronised crew to operate a sail ship. Most modern squids couldn't manoeuvre their way out of a paper bag on a fish pond in mom's back-yard, not even mentioning doing battle on rough seas, if they were suddenly Shanghaied and tossed on an old Man-O-War!
With the sound of the music, the chorus sort of sounds like a more gravely robotic tone. But its all great, plus robot is an added bonus even if unintentional
