Obviously he has money but he really has taste too - it's eye popping but it is somewhere I'd love to live (which isn't always the case with these ultra high net worth type properties).

and its also not common among poor/middle class population to have good taste on things, i bet on average, rich people have a much better taste than poor people.

@@serolatei9262 Taste is a purely subjective concept which evolves from education and wider life experiences as well as financial status. Of course, if your horizons are limited by financial struggle then aesthetic taste is a luxury - but God bless the low paid; 2020 has shown us just how much society needs their work.

I understand the French government wants to preserve it's architectural history however if one buys and lives in these relics it should feel like a home and not a museum. Unless the owner chooses to do so comprised of all things periord. I think a swimming pool can be done but made like a darker reflecting pond as one would find at a stately home with golden proportions. I absolutely have great respect for such traditional architecture however if I were to live in such a stately domicile I would want the house and it's grounds to be useable from it's original intent to the most modern without comprising its classical beauty. Current technology can allow us to have both. The interiors are the most beautiful I have ever seen in a French chateau and it's images always convince me of what my ideal country house should be; a perfect balance of old world grandeur, modern comfort and warmth. Timothy did a spectacular job.

I would hate to do a renovation like this. And not for the reason you might think. The place is basically in ruin, yet when someone wants to save it and LEGALLY OWNS IT and funds the renovation himself how can the government say what he can or cannot do on his property? They let it go to waste but god help anyone who puts a whole in one that's in good shape. I would have taken them to court and made a huge scene about government hypocrisy and how they let the historical building rot away and scare off anyone who tries to save it.
BEAUTIFUL RENOVATION though. It looks VERY comfortable but still luxurious. And I love that he gave each room it's own theme. It really adds character and a homeyness to it. Would love to see his other works.

if you want full liberty to do what you want, then don't buy a historical landmark. it is not just about your money, it is about the history that lies within the walls.
there are several properties you could buy in France without these limitations

Seriously, the guy bought a chateau in France, renovated it for months if not for years, spends at least a part of his life there - and can't even approximately pronounce it's name? GRAND-LUCÉ, ostrogoth au ketchup, c'est quand même pas l'Atlantique à boire!
Is he American or is he American?!

The chateau has the beautiful landscape gardens like Capability Brown's, with a lake and swimming pools, one converted from a fountain. Room No.1 is a gorgeous palatial suite which fits for a king and queen. Faaaabulous hotel. :>

The Reflecting Pool becomes the generic Swimming Pool. Disgraceful and lacking any style. A slap in the face to the Landmark.

The "landmark" was in ruins. He spent a great deal of money to restore it. If the swimming pool bothers you----buy the whole chateau and rip out the pool.

I would pass a law so that the restorer of French chateaux have specialized studies in French history/culture/design and BAN the swimming-pool-in-the-chateau, castle-flipping-&-turning-into-expensive-American-Bed-and-Breakfast mentality from ever shaping the French history.

Sorry, but I'm so glad they said no to the swimming pool. It is much better outside. Beautiful renovation. I believe that this is one that any century of owners would approve of. Like you said, elegant and comfortable at the same time.

when he is filmed, the a soft effect, it's very disturbing. Other than that cool video, and great idea for the Pool.

He sold it, he said he only spent six day there in a whole year, he was asking $11.4, I don't know what he got, in NY. or Ca. it would probably be ten times that, you cat tell he's a designer, the place is beautiful.

I have such respect for Timothy. He did such a wonderful job creating a magnificent liveable home. France is my favourite place to be, so this home is dreamy to me.

I must have comment this on every video were I see a castle/chateau. I dont care for fame, or I dont need to be the richest man in the world. I do however want a Castle. I just love them, I´m a history neard I love to think about who may have lived in them, what their life was etc.

This place is a winner through and through. It's good to see woodwork that hasn't been painted over in stark white or in dark gray or black and that fireplaces have the look of the era in which they were built rather than something anachronistic or no fireplace surround at all.---I'm an admirer and reader of Virginia Woolf. I'd like to know and see which room Mr. Corrigan designed with Virginia Woolf as the imaginary guest.
