There is nothing like Mobile after a mid day thunderstorm blows through, the sun comes back out, the A/C in your car dies, and you are wearing a suit and tie.
🤣🤣 ain't nothing like that sweet summer rain...
Don't forget the joy that is downtown mobile and it's one way streets at quitting time. XD
As a Mobilian i can confirm the bad driving and littering
yeah... the litter is being tackled from lots of fronts, but there's still a lot of work to do!
If you live in a city with a large black population, you’re gonna have lots of littering.
Color of population has nothing to do with it , I've lived in predominantly white population cities and issue was just as bad @@onetakewillie

I live about 35 minutes from Mobile Alabama in a little town called Perdido Alabama between Bay Minette and Atmore Alabama and I love it for last 53 years
We've heard of Perdido! Isn't there a winery there?
Foley here.
I am from Bay Minette. The kids in Perdido came to high school there.

Having moved from Seattle to Mobile 3 years ago. Mobile isn't perfect but it's way nicer than Seattle. People wave as you drive around. Traffic is a thing but it's doable. All in all, I love it here!
Great to hear!

Welcome to Mobile!
Everyone coming from the west headed to the beach has to pass through Mobile. Traffic used to be awful on the weekends, but so many more people are going that it's bad every day....especially after lunch. I-10 used to be easy, but now keep trying to find new ways without going through the tunnel.
new bridge coming.
Man, yeah the traffic 100%. When you are headed east from Mississippi and cross the state line, it’s literally like every single driver is in a race to get through mobile county to the bay way. Well, that is until they see the big scary tunnel and slam on brakes.
Ha, and then lay on the horn once finally inside that scary tunnel.
I was born and raised here in Mobile too and I can tell you the only thing you can truly love about it is the four weeks or so of temperatures below 80 degrees in the Winter.
Well actually that is when we're lucky enough to get a Winter because some years we don't even get any cold weather!
Love that sub 80 weather also.
Ha, when it happens to snow ❄️ we shut down for sure!
Visiting from Canada!! I don’t find the drivers too bad, however yes rolling stops for sure!! I just love Mobile it’s beautiful and we are enjoying it so much!!!
Love the rain! But hate it when the sun comes right back out to steam everything back up again.
Rain 🌧️ keeps it so greeeeen here!
I absolutely love Mobile, I hate that there’s a video that is titled this. AND I just joined the rundown newsletter last week and it’s the first thing that popped up. I wish it started with the statement “there’s plenty of things to love around Mobile” at the beginning.
A bit of a shock, for sure!!
We get it.
We just wanted to make folks aware of some of the crazy drivers 🤣
But don't worry, we'll be creating plenty of vids about what we LOVE about the area as well 😏😁
And, since it was your first week, know that it's not normal --- feel free to check out previous email content -- themobilerundown.beehiiv.com/
Thanks for the comment!!
This is an honest assessment. You seem to want to deny reality and put on a facade. You likely notice these things but just won't admit it but it will show in your actions.

Mobile sucks. I was born there, raised there and simply put, mobile sucks. It stinks, as in smells bad. There are no nice places to go. All the clubs including the ones downtown are ratholes. I hate mobile.
@@ArtistBrianSheffieldI hate Mobile too. When you go to places like the Pacific Northwest or Montana/Utah/Wyoming, it makes this place look like a rathole even more. No one knows how to drive here, people are extremely rude for no reason and there isn't much opportunity here. Not to mention the storms and extreme heat/humidity
If you think traffic is terrible in Mobile, then you've never drive through Atlanta.
I used to live in Stockbridge (just south of Atlanta) and my job was in North Atlanta. Had to be at work at 8 so I had to leave NO LATER than 6:30 AM to make sure I got to work on time. Worked ended at 5ish and if I got home by 6:30, that was 'early'! Lived in Mobile since 2012. Some places are very nice. Other places . . . . not so much. Schillinger Road and Airport are congested to the maximum most of the time. Only one mall (Bel Air). NO public pools. People run red lights even after the lights are definitely RED. District Attorney only prosecutes cases that are 'high profile' and self serving to make them LOOK like they care about its citizens. If it is a small crime, such as your house being burglarized or your vehicle broken into, NOT WORTH their time. You are out of luck. Over 37 shootings in Mobile COUNTY since January 1, 2024 (11 in Prichard, 26 in the city of Mobile). After Mardi Gras, the streets look beyond disgusting. David Adams, Tillman's Corner
When we go through Atlanta, we just let Jesus take the wheel 🙌
I lived in Tyrone for 9 years, but came home to Mobile 13 years ago. Peachtree city was great to pass through, but the interstates downtown are so full of potholes its insane
Atlanta is nothing I’ll assure you. Houston is worse followed by Dallas followed by San Antonio in that order.
I used to drive over the road and have this experience. Mobilians complain about Atlanta come out here with the truck drivers going through Dallas. Dallas traffic is so bad you really should go through there close to midnight.
@@diddlebug7241 never been to Dallas. I live in Mobile and used to live in Atlanta. My grandma lives in Houston. It's pretty bad there too
Dude I 10 runs right through your city lol I live 3 and half hours from Mobile, I love going through the tunnel 🫶🏽 living in Alabama is like getting all four seasons in the same week sometimes

Crazy to see all my fellow mobilians. I never see videos about Mobile. Any publicity is good publicity!
Howdy 🤠 Mobilian!
The population in mobile & eastern shore has gone up by 3 times , so that's why the drivers are crazy as they come from northen states .
I drive slowly and am from Massachusetts!
I liked the Gulf Shores. KFC and a lot of time spent on the beach. Bad sunburn. Noxzema Skin Cream cooled that burn! 1975-76 school year.

While the country heads into a recession Mobile is booming! Airbus and the South Alabama campus are the anchors of growth and prosperity. New construction, new businesses and better jobs are sprouting up everywhere.
USA campus is booming!
Oh, and Austal just won new contracts we think?
@@themobilerundown Mobile is in a economic boom
Traffic in Mobile isn’t terrible unless you’re on Airport Blvd and it’s dozens of traffic lights.
Just made me think of the opening scene from the movie Office Space 😂
I'm a born and raised Mobilian here and I agree with nearly everything you said here. I don't believe I've ever had anyone ask me "Are you from here?", but then again I speak with a typical Southern Al accent whereas you seem to have either lost or never had one. So I imagine all those folks asking "Are you from here" really mean to say "You don't sound like you're from here."
I'm sure the more west you go, such as Semmes and Wilmer, the more you get asked, and I'm betting Midtown is your homebase. No judgement, I've worked with and for folks in nearly every zipcode, I dearly love the diversity of people who call this place home, whether they started their life experience here or not. ❤
I also spent 1.5 years in New Zealand.
Really jacked me up 🤣🤣
I had started driving in the north prior to returning home to Miflin, Alabama. I feel as though I was very fortunate having being able to experience driving from my home to where I attended academy during the week day in Mobile. It was the first time outside of primary school and work that I had driven any distance greater than for grocery or errands and this was during a time that the Alabama Southern Hospitality was apparent in manners in interactions as well as on the road. I enjoyed my experiences in secondary school, but the drives to and from Mobile were where I developed my sense of direction as well as learning to “enjoy the drive” so much that I shortly before course completion I obtained my CDL endorsement.
I’ve lived or at least spent a little time in nearly all 48 states, Mobile with the faults that others may point out, it also has a very special feel like no other place that I’ve visited that lives pulses even today.
There are lots of things about Mobile that I like; more than I dislike the heat, for sure.
There is a lack of good public transport (if you don’t have a car, you’re pretty much stuck.
The rain is not as bad as it is in Florida, where I grew up! And I love thunderstorms, too!

Being from here and leaving to vist other cities has shown me how different mobile is from the rest of the country things here rarely chang the schools and job market are the biggest cons also the infrastructure is usually thirty plus years behind the rest its changing some but most of the people are ok with it just as long as they have Mardi Gras and jobs
nice -- what other cities have you lived?
Agree that some things are changing --- pretty amazing stats about the port growth, the deepening of the ship channel, some large industry contracts, etc. --- we think all of that is a win for all.
But folks sure do love their Mardi Gras 🤣🤣
@@themobilerundown I've been to different cities through travel Houston San Antonio San Francisco Huntsville Atlanta to name a few places Mobile is pretty behind in terms of asttic appeal and amenities it's my home town but that's where the buck stops with me I view it as a retirement city where old people come to save a few dollars on housing and to stretch there pension checks
And your right they like there Mardi Gras just as much as War Eagle and Roll Tide
@@marchilton8855 fair points. Those cities are definitely much larger, so more amenities in general makes sense!
War Eagle 🤣🤣
Yes the driving and litter is wild! I'm from Virginia and the area I lived in wasn't like this.
it's a bummer. we tried to pick up in our neighborhood. if we all do that, it's a start!
Hi Pammy!!!
This is a pretty honest option I guess but how could the back up on bayway and tunnels everyday not be on the list - the litter is terrible and many of us try and help but it’s embarrassing!
Bayway Backup.
Part 2!
(Maybe the new bridge will be up and running before we get around to it!)
Litter seems to be a tough one to solve and is unfortunate.
I love the heat here in Mobile
Moved to the area twelve year ago and I avoid the city of Mobile as much as possible , takes something really important to get me near downtown
Congrats?
when people ask where you from, they're referring to what local community
You should change the title to “Things WE hate about mobile” this is too true
I am from Massachusetts Mobile is very hot and humid! 1975-76 school year. Equally hot and humid. We lived near Montlimar Dr. Similar, but older apartment complex, before the current one. Same look(buildings). Great for roller skating! There is or was a paper plant(mill) nearby.. Funny smell.
I concur: The killings, traffic, litter and heat/humidity dull the shine of what might be a gem of a city but the first three is about people and, until the hearts and minds of the residents change, there will be no change. The humidity? Well, thank Willis Havilland Carrier for air conditioning.
Love this!!
I live across the bay from Mobile and I have worked in Mobile for about 10 years. If it wasn't for having to work there, l wouldn't go there at all. The traffic is horrible and every night you can turn on the news and someone has been shot, stabbed and or murdered in Mobile. It sucks.
How are those commutes working for you? Great solution for a scared snowflake. . We're good enough for employment but too black huh? All that gas money and sitting on the bay way don't add up
Hilarious that someone from Baldwin county is complaining about traffic in Mobile. Traffic in Daphne and Fairhope is ridiculous. Not saying Mobile is better, but it’s certainly not worse.
Yep, have many friends that cross the bay daily!
Curious, what part of Mobile is your job in?
I lived in Mobile most of my life. Moved to Fairhope 5 years ago and back to Mobile County two weeks ago. The traffic and population in Fairhope/Daphne has gone crazy. I haven’t missed it yet but I do miss Summer Moon’s coffee. Yum!
Lol
One word.....Snowbirds. Explains crazy drivers. Yes, I live in Mobile too.
The litter absolutely infuriates me! We have a pretty city, STOP BEING TACKY, PUT TRASH WERE IT GOES!
The litter is a bummer. Such a problem with so many variables to solve.
I’m a Biloxi born. What I hate about it is the beauty of it is gone due to casinos and too many people now. I grew up in the sixties and seventies when it was awesome. No more country side out from DIberville were we used to swim at the rivers and ride dirt bikes. It sucks with crime and drugs. I’m about 35 miles away now in Wiggins.
The photos of coastal areas I see from the 60s are really cool!

I enjoy visiting Mobile, but I love living in rural Alabama. I mostly feel that way in general; I’m glad we have cities to visit, but I don’t ever want to live in one again. The major metropolitan cities like NYC, LA, CHI, MIA, ATL, DFW, HOU, etc etc are too big for me & I’m glad I experienced them all prior to 2020. I’m not exactly sure when each of one of them became so incredibly insane that I no longer wanted to even visit them; but I know I left ATL 1st, LA last, with large variety in between & now smaller major metro like RDU are over the top bustling. It’s all hurry up to wait, with a mad house of people who can’t even look at one another, because they’re so tired of constantly being on the move, while getting nowhere.
Totally know what you mean!
As we travelled, my favorite places have been areas of 50-100k people.
Usually means can get everything you need, not too busy, and usually plenty of outdoor beauty close by 😁
Huh, I loves to visit mobile..my husband grewup there and I loves when we go visit..Huh, U think it's hot there Come visit Kansas wide range wheat fields for miles...110 to 112 degrees blown hot heat across the Prarie...So hot Cows gives Powder Milk instead of liquid (kidding 🤣) Mosquitos fly with fans on their backs( kidding)...But Not kidding about heat, if u don't have air conditioning, whew blows real heat with ur windows down horrible....Been to Mobile in humidity But try Kansas in Summer heat...or cold when u wake up it's MInus 6, call hit minus 11 at night...💯💯💯👈🏾👈🏾👈🏾
Biggest thing I hate about Mobile, AL...It keeps MOVING!
😉
Since Katrina Mobile has gotten worse and worse as far as traffic. Yes there is a lot of litter. The humidity is killer.
I have been here 60 years.
Mobile, pronounced Mo-beel, used to be wonderful. If I had the money I would move. One of my sons moved to Texas. He loves it. Crime is a lot worse. Mobile is boring.

Sounds like driving in Florida. Is the average speed also 100+ mph?
Like 100 minimum
Why does everyone feel the need to slow going thru the tunnel? As soon as you exit the tunnel, traffic starts flowing normally. You'd think there was a major wreck on the other side or something.
Definitely making a video on this. You're so right. Strange anomaly...
@@portcityrcjunkie9306 I believe it’s because as you descend into the tunnel. You can’t see the road ahead and people slow down. It only takes a few cars doing this and then traffic is screwed up afterwards.

I have lived in Mobile for the past 10 years. No one in Mobile does the speed limit. Most major roads are 40mph, and it is nothing to see cars going in excess of 50. I've had people pass me in the center turn lane.
Pretty wild, I agree.
Overall, Mobile traffic is like any other city---except for Airport blvd. Too many lights too close together. They stay red for a millineum, but thats not the bad thing. When the light finally DOES turn green, you could grow a beard waiting on people to GO. I find myself chanelling Miranda Priestly---"By all means move at a glacial pace you know how that thrills me".
I hate Hipster Portland wannabees.
Mobile aint bad.
Try DC, Phoenix, or LA is you want to see bad traffic. The a freeways in Phoenix that would take me 2 hours to go 9 miles on a regular afternoon commute.

I think people ask if youre from here is because your accent doesn't fit the locals. Im similar to you where I've had several people surprised that I've lived in the area for over 30 years.
So many of Mobile's problems can be traced back to the Katrina diaspora. Litter, crime, and driving.
Just found this video, BTW. . I'm subscribing to your page.
Truly worst city to drive in like EVER
Have others to compare it to?
You left out how boring Mobile is. Fun just doesn’t work here. What would be fun in a different city is just flat and doesn’t work here. When I leave through the tunnel system I feel a dark cloud of oppression lift as I exit the city. Immediately. Plus food by and large is also boring and subpar. It’s like the people of Mobile have read a book about how to enjoy your life but have never actually had fun or enjoyed themselves and are imitating what they read of saw in movies but with no experience. Bob Dylan wrote a song in the sixties called “stuck in Mobile with the Memphis blues again” after a visit and refused to ever play Mobile again. So it’s not a new thing
"You left out how boring Mobile is. Fun just doesn’t work here."
Personally disagree with this, but we're pretty chill folks.
