    I can attest to the prong collar communicating with and getting compliance from the dog with a lot less force. I started switching my dog over to a prong collar a couple of days ago and took her for a long walk today (our first time with the prong and leash). Corrections with the prong need to be much gentler. With the regular collar, the dog would pull and forget even very firm corrections almost immediately. She walked very nicely using the prong and was much more mindful to leave slack in the leash.

    I wish my dog was half as calm as yours, and your cats are funny! Thank you for this video, it's helped me use my collar more effectively on my dog.

      So glad to help! And trust me, the dog in this video is NOT a calm dog by nature! It has taken a ton of work to get to where she is now--but my point being, it's possible...so don't give up!

    My dog is 90lbs and I use the 2.25, it still works great and is less noticeable and Janky on him, it's not for pulling just direction guiding when in a distracting area

    We've got 2 GSD puppies (yes we're crazy) one is a 3 MONTH old nearly 30 POUND ball of muscle, solid. We ordered a prong for him because we want to get ahead of pulling. His little brother is 9 weeks and all of 15 lbs lol. I found your videos to help me learn how to use them appropriately when we start using them. I ordered a herm sprenger

    You answered a lot of questions that I had. My 5 month old is walking so much better on a prong collar! Thank you!

    I believe about the harness. When I bought 1 my dog has gotten incredibly strong now and harder to control.

      Yep...that's a common story that I hear. Harnesses may stop the choking but generally don't fix the pulling, and as you said, often makes it worse.

    This was a great video. I found you after the prong colar released on my 8 th month old German Shepherd.
    This was my first time using a prong collar and I don't care for it. I have always used a choke chain to train and I'm going to use a choke chain . I have even used lightweight small choke chains on young puppies that I trained early. I recommend training your puppy early on. Especially large breed dogs. The choke chain does not come off and has never hurt any puppies or dogs that I've trained....:-)
    Now I have to return this prong colar!

    Hello and thank you for this wonderful video. Your Husky is beautiful and very obedient. What was the neck width of the 2.25 mm pinch collar that you applied to your husky? I too own a Siberian Husky (white) and his neck size is 17 inches… the current pinch collar I purchased from PS has darkened the color of his fur in less than two weeks( he wears it daily).
    Thanks again!

    This is extremely clear and concise! And yes, I love Herm Sprenger and think they are very high quality, but definitely have heard numerous stories, as well as personal experience where the quick release comes undone. I dont think it is rare either, it is fairly common. I have always wondered why Herm Sprenger hasnt tried to change the design or fix this flaw. Any thoughts on this, other than the great idea with the carabiner? Again Great video!

      U can undone the quick release and put a small rapid link in the holes. There’s enough space, even with the quick release dangling in one side.

    This is all well and good, if your dog will hold still while you put the collar on him. What do you do if he's bouncing all over the place?

    • @beheeleddogtraining485
      @beheeleddogtraining485  3 года назад +2

      You have to correct the dog for the overly-excited behavior. You can look up how to use a bonker, pet corrector, or remote collar to help with this. Also, keeping a very calm demeanor yourself and not feeding into the dog's energy is important

    I have a Top•Paw collar I got from PetSmart and couldn’t you just use a smaller collar to connect the two collars?

    I have just come across your page,Thank you .
    I you have a cat and a dog together and I wanted to ask how you would get a dog and a cat to live together.
    I have been refused a rescue dog because I ha a cat from rescue centres.
    Now I want to buy a dog and I need to learn how to get them to live together.
    Can you advise me please

      There are a lot of variables to this, and not all cats and dogs do well together. However, I have worked with many dogs who come in with major issues with cats, and by the end of their board and train program, are able to be around them perfectly safely--implementing structure and boundaries is huge, and correcting a dog for getting overly-aroused by cats is very important. There is too much detail for me to be able to fully get into it here, but I do offer Skype sessions if you ever want more in-depth, personal help.

    Have you tried Herm Sprenger's Neck Tech prong collar? If so, how do think it compares to the regular prong collar?

      I like ordering them from Chewy.com (the 2.25 is called a size Small on their website and others). You can also order them from Leerburg.com

    Can you use the harness for back up

    • @beheeleddogtraining485
      @beheeleddogtraining485  3 года назад

      You could, although I find it easier to just connect a carabiner from the dead ring of the prong collar to the D-ring of a flat buckle/martingale collar
