- When PBS decided to revive the 'Soundstage' television program in 2003, they invited Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to be among the first bands to open the series. The band wound up playing enough material to fill two hour-long episodes and more. When a DVD of the two episodes came out in 2005, fans were treated to an 'Extras' section that had some -- but unfortunately not all -- of the songs the band performed, which didn't make it onto or air with the two episodes. This performance of "Not Fade Away" comes from that DVD's 'Extras' section. Enjoy!

Those rugs really tied the stage together
Many well known bands sang cover versions of this classic old rocker of Buddy Holly. The Stones, The Dead , Los Lobos and TPHB to name a few .

Been nice if they covered Buddy's version instead of the Stones. ( i liked the Stones version but Buddy's strong, soft sound was better)

.. a little too fast; Blues harp adds to the feeling. B- on the cover. There are better.
If you watch the whole concert , they needed a nice little fast pace cover. I think it fitted well in the line up. Think about the context.
Version inspired by Brian Jones. Hard to watch and I really like Tom. This just didn't hit it because the harp was weak.
