I've been fighting my husband over this for 2 years now. He thinks I'm an idiot, so I sent this to him! Maybe he'll listen to you, since he hasn't been married to you for 40 yrs!!
Oh dear. I had to do something similar. Eventually it was accepted and now we keep eggs on the counter until they are used or if we get a glut of them we will refrigerate the older ones. Had to do the same thing when I wanted to try water glassing. Wait til your hubby hears about that!
@@SheratonParkFarms Heyyy bud, I would love to call you because im still newer to this and i keep getting all kinds of answers from everyone I've talked to and when doing research online and I'm super confused about a couple things and idk what to do, lol. Im super sorry about the long comment coming, but im still a rookie with the chickens hobby with only having them for 9-10 months, lol. However, are they still good if they freeze overnight or if it gets cold out? I heard if you don't wash or refrigerate them that they will last months. But, if you wash or refrigerate them they will only last a couple of weeks before going bad. Now, i only have 4 chickens ive had for less than a year. I didn't want to get a bunch as i didn't know anything and wanted to do a trial run. I don't gather my eggs every day and during the winter, i didn't collect them at all because they would be frozen or frozen and thawed out, or even getting cold in the night and then they warm back up during the day when the suns out. Its the same concept as a refrigerator and goes from cold, refrigerated temperatures for 8-12 hours and then it'll end up being like 60-70+ degrees in the day and then i don't trust them and don't want anyone getting sick or anything. Soo, is im slightly confused and i really don't want to keep wasting these things. I threw and wasted well over 200+ eggs during the winter and the last couple of months because its still been cold..
I always wash my eggs. People dont like buying dirty eggs and water compromises the bloom. My hens are very good at grabbing all the eggs with their dirty feet and moving them around as they cycle thru the nesting boxes. The eggs get dirty during the wet times of the year like winter and spring in the northeast. Whether you wash your eggs or not i would still recommend refrigeration. Quick refrigeration prevents any possibility of a fertilized egg developing into a mess and is very good at preventing bacterial growth. Its very reliable and doesnt hurt the egg in any way.
You need better deep bedding , if you have mud it’s no good , if your run is muddy no good , separate it in two and plant grass , then rotate . Build better nest boxes and keep them closed at night
I built roll away nest boxes for my girls..eggs are perfect no matter the weather. Oh and I refrigerate my eggs unwashed as well.. they last up to three months that way.
@@philliphall5198 Thanks but not definitive. My question re-worded is if you don't have to wash the shite off because of this bloom covering how long will the eggs last outside refridgeration as opposed to washing and refridgerating? What causes salmonella then?
@@gardengnome3249 I leave my eggs on the counter for about two weeks maybe three and then I will wash a dozen. Every time I need eggs put them in the refrigerator. I wash them and then they’re good in the refrigerator for about two more weeks. But if you wanna figure it out yourself take an egg that is not washed and take an egg that you washed and put in the refrigerator then after a couple of weeks put them in water and see if one of them floats, if neither float do it again but wait longer because when an egg floats it’s no good no more
In the country l live in.... the very idea of washing eggs (in whatever condition you find it in) is foreign. We never wash eggs. Even with a little chickem poo, we never do. I have never known anyone to get sick from those eggs

Many people wipe there eggs from the store down with olive oil, this serves the same purpose, they will stay fresh for a long time even without refrigeration

Lol those are some of the cleanest non-washed eggs I ever did see🤙🇺🇸
Thanks for that good information
Me from germany never freezed eggs in my whole life... by the way xD
Thanks for sharing. Very educational!!
I never wash my eggs until im ready to eat those delicious tasting delights.
Isn't that unhygienic? 🤔
Thanks for all y'all do 🇺🇲
Thanks for sharing! :)
Thank you!!
Thank you, very informative.
Yep they don’t refrigerate them in Germany 🇩🇪. I have seen them put these eggs on sand after they are boiled.
If they've come into contact with feces, do you wash them just prior to use?
So we wash them only when ready to eat, room temp or slightly warm water?
Evidence there is God. Lol. I love it!

whats the best way to remove any poop without washing, gonna have first eggs later this year...
Try some sandpaper. Use gently to knock off the poo.
So what is the shelf life of an egg at room temp with coating left intact
If you do wash them, put mineral oil on them after.

I knew it I only use a toothbrush to wipe and or brush the area with extra stuff on it.
You forgot to tell us how easy it is to remove the bloom.
Can you rub it off by handling it?
Must it be done with water?
More information please.
I’m 65 years of chicken never had that problem and I don’t think you can

What if some of the poo gets in your pan when you crack the shell?
You cook your egg and the poo together and enjoy
@michaelweston409 kikiki I am sure we don't eat chicken poo. The point is/was we have never had need to wash eggs.
@@Jimmydann814 kikiki ofcoz not.
I do not wash my eggs for that reason.
If the bedding is fresh and clean the eggs will be clean

You can put diatamatious earth in the feed, it will make the eggs come out clean with no poop on it
