I had a similar issue with my Arctic cat 500 4x4, it ended up being the voltage regulator was bad. If you tried running the machine with the lights on,it ran fine. Test the battery charging without the lights on, I was getting 20-24 volts, with the headlights on,it was 13-14 volts.
