Vinnie, I just received my Optima Air today in Texas. Thank you for the intelligent review. I was impressed by your expert friends’ cameo and hope to hear any of you perform next time I’m in Singapore. Also, man you looked sharp on your wedding day!
Great review, Pedal Rebel! Just heard about this pedal recently and have now ordered one thanks to you and your friends. Have been using the Fishman Aura Spectrum for several years, which I believe sounds better than most of what's out there. Looking forward to trying this NuX! Thanks again!
Thank you... I have a cort MR500E semi acoustic guitar but the tone is not sounding as shown in your video with the same settings. Are there any other additional settings to be done. Please let me know if possible.
Are there any additional settings we need to get the tone you shared. I have Cort 500E but not able to get the output to sound like your demo... Please advise
Thank you! I was about to get a Para di but a lot of reviewers have made me question whether to actually pay for the Para di premium price, or get a newer choice, I was seriously considering the other nux acoustic di, and really hadn't paid attention to this one! So thanks for the shout out!
Heya great video! Does anyone know if I would still need a DI box for acoustic guitar if I had this pedal? My guitar also runs into 2 or 3 effect pedals. Thanks so much
Excellent video...love the banter and a good representation of the pedals capability. In your wedding video.... what a lovely guitar, but the sound!!..... well your playing hid the inadequacyof the pick up!!! Well done
Heya great video! Does anyone know if I would still need a DI box for acoustic guitar if I had this pedal? My guitar also runs into 2 or 3 effect pedals, then straight into PA sound system. Thanks so much
I've been enjoying this pedal for about a month now. I liked your video. One small correction. You said that the IR knob "allows you to blend between your dry signal and your IR signal." According to the manufacturer, this is not the case. Here is what NuX told me about the IR knob: "The IR Level Knob cuts/boosts the IR file signal at 8dB. Middle position is 0dB. For example, if you find an imported IR file sounds too loud, you can use this knob to turn it down to avoid distortion. The editing software even offers bass-cut and treble-cut to fine tune the IR files. It doesn't give any dry signal, so it's not a balance/mix knob." I look forward to your full demo of the pedal!
@@PedalRebel880 thanks Vinnie. I wasn’t thinking. I was using my much 1820 with a headphone out to return but I forgot to start GarageBand and assign my input channel. LOL. Can’t wait to try it tonight. For me, this is where the Optima Air really shines. Making YOUR guitar sound like YOUR guitar. Thanks again, man!
How can you switch from one tone preset to another while playing live? Are you going to turn the tone selector with your hands while playing? Anyone? Thanks!
I agree, in the ideal situation we won't want to use a pedal for acoustic too. However, if you are playing on a loud stage in a pub, this is a make or break.
I'm sorry but no guitarist worth adamn is going to guess what size the guitar is off of a compressed audio clip, or no guitarist worth their damn. Did you hear the guesses, "something big, a dreadnough" t oh you mean the most common guitar body style in the world by a vast majority
Yes, we were guessing for the fun of it. Generally, we associate a certain type of acoustic tone with a certain type of body shape. That is an undeniable truth with all guitarists. As a matter of fact, a trumpeter will guess if it is a regular Bb Trumpet, a Bugle, or even a Cornet from the tone they hear in a compressed audio clip. It's just a thing we musicians do...
I think they get credit for giving an honest effort without concern their knowledge was in question. I had absolutely no ideas. I have heard so many awful plugged-in acoustics at open mic nights, etc. I thought that's what they sounded like! One in particular was so bad I realized three artists had the same horrible sound, and saw they were all sharing the same guitar. I was very disappointed that I recognized the headstock of that guitar, and hoped the guitar was the lowest life form that company sold! Very unrelated, but I am reminded of a different kind of 'blindfold test'. Downbeat Magazine used to have a blindfold test back in the pre-CD days with a famous musician with a long history (I think I can remember with Miles Davis, Milt Jackson, and maybe Sonny Rollins). The interviewer would play new recordings from multiple newer artists who played the same instrument as the interviewee, and that person who created history would comment on who they thought they were hearing. Not what instrument, but the player's 'voice', style, whatever impression was felt. Miles & Sonny had insightful observations, sometimes they were familiar with the younger players who were 'coming up', and recognize them correctly, or guess at a possibility that was pretty accurate. Not 100% (but I think that was the bias of the interview/test). One commented that it sounded like someone from his era (50's, 60's) then added 'or someone heavily influenced by the person they first thought of'. Milt Jackson's response was the one I remember most clearly. He did not recognize any of the newer vibe players or even think they sounded like any of his own contemporaries. That made an impression on me back when I read the magazine in a library...that maybe he never listened to anyone else. Old me speaking now: maybe he didn't remember anything from the old days, but it seems like one is inclined to make even an inaccurate guess, if relying on auditory memory. Maybe he was checked out of music at that point and didn't need to hear anyone copying someone else. So maybe his 0% score was for good reason. That brings me back to your friends' participation. I heard intuitive comments, not "it sounds like a guitar". The friend who pondered the possibility they might all be from the same guitar was "onto something". I didn't care that they didn't identify the type, model and strings! I liked that they head differences more akin to the voicing, and maybe subconsciously contemplating likes/dislikes before answering, without stepping into expressing judgement leaning that way. The magazine interviewees were all 'worth a damn', and I only judged one for having zero awareness of later players. I was impressed with your friends' ability to listen and analyze, regardless of the outcome. For myself, I checked out before the 2nd clip; acoustic guitar not being my expertise, but also saying I don't expect myself to have any auditory memory, other than recognizing a musician or song title, any more I could remember subtle color variations in visual comparisons...I don't think in color. The differences in clips are complex...you only pick up 'obvious' things and maybe not all the details. Hopefully they are still your friends. I think they made an honest thoughtful effort and were insightful. Like you could get their opinions about recordings, etc. I found my way here because I am helping a friend set up a ToneDexter for a gig next week. HE knows what his own guitars sound like and can make his own decisions. I know how to read manuals, connect cables & update the firmware. Everyone has different skills & weaknesses. I am more interested in the 'mad scientist' aspect of 'deceiving' the Tone Dexter by providing it with a different guitar's mic'ed audio. Another friend denied that possibility, but Audio Sprockets even tells you how to do this (like for a 'silent guitar').

halo, i need to ask, how to add our own IR files from laptop/pc into Optima Air? cz i cant find it on manual book.. thank youu
Did you ever do the in depth follow up that you mentioned at the end, I can’t find it 👍
Very informative and well done, thank you to you and your friends.
Anytime!
I guess you didn't have yours on too long. Then it heats up and the sound becomes all distorted.

Kind words! Thank you.
I think it's a cutaway
What do you think about the zoom a1four?

Thank you for that! I will need to explore with it deeper before doing up part 2 of the video :)
I probably going to buy this, but right now I'm quite satisfied using Nux MG300 & load it with acoustic guitar IR.
Awesome video bruddah!!! Nice one!
correction , Martin HD28 is a dreadnought guitar and Gibson J15 is a slope shoulder Dreadnought. For your future reference.
Yes you are right! Did I say it wrongly in my video? Thank you for pointing it out and prevent me confusing other viewers :D
you told that the HD28 was an auditorium shaped and the J15 was a small shaped guitar.
You should compare the Nux with the fishman Aurea spectrum Di .
That's a good idea, I'll try to get my hands on one! @FishmanAcoustic
Just ordered one- thanks for your reviews. That girl in your first video looks like a girl that spoke to us at Harper College
Enjoy your NPD!
Heh nice! This was entertaining to watch!
yeah my favourite is when I reveal it to them!
What is the doubleneck in the background?
It's an Ibanez
@@PedalRebel880 thanks. I may get one in the near future.
Can you do a video tutorial on how to make your own IRs with the Optima Air?

Just created an IR for my Emerald X20. Holy hell! I cannot believe how close it sounds acoustically. Amazing pedal!
@@ontherecord4253 Congratulations! Glad to know that it is doing you well :)

Are you going to turn the tone selector with your hands while

Try something like this
www.thingiverse.com/thing:3257464
is this good for violin?
I have not tried that but a good direction that I can look into.
@@PedalRebel880 matur suksma... can't wait
I also thought you are using mic on that demo. sound so real
It is amazing isn't it?
@@PedalRebel880 yes. I just run a test hours ago.
You had a pretty fly jacket for your wedding! ⚡️
Cool video! I just made a video on this as well I was very impressed!
Yes! I believe this pedal will be the new default! Great underdog!
Vinnie Classroom It is excellent! NUX make fantastic products.
My guesses
1st one is a solid body acoustic
2nd cheap parlor
3rd taylor big body mic'd
I use a Mooer Radar pedal with Martin Impulse responses on... absolute game changer!
The future of live acoustic is IR
I agree! I'm sure it will evolve even better
change your di try NEVE 88M i think your sound will be different i don't understand why your sound DI is bad??
WAH THAT JACKET
Well... haha..
Lr Baggs Session Align
But it does not do IR
I was sort'a hoping he'd say he was playing on a ukulele.
no one record with pedal, microphones produce the best sound for acoustic guitars, everything else sounds electric or like a Piezo

@@PedalRebel880 best reply, just not realistic to mic for a lot of performance situations
Doesn't help having the background 'mood' music!
Noted!
You look like Feng E but older
haha...
