I was gonna say, 'That kid is so cute!' but then I saw it was Josh Hutcherson and my mind exploded. Up until recently, I didn't even know that Christian Bale was in it. Man, I love that guy's voice!
mmm, how about we just have the original Japanese voice actors and not playe "spot the famous person" pretending to be a character. Also, given Disney's past record, I don't trust their transaltions to be accurate.
In my opinion, everyone made a great job in this movie except Young Sophie's voice actress (Emily Mortimer), the problem is in the second half when Sophie stops getting old. In the japanese version (and the first latin spanish dub) when the bombing starts, Sophie sounds so desperate and afraid and shows emotions during the climax. Emily on the other hand, she lacks emotions during the climax and she can't even scream.
I honestly freaked out when I heard that Howl is voiced by Christian Bale. I've never watched the English dub version of this movie, only in Japanese. And I'm also a huge fan of Christian Bale so I was like cursing all around the house lol
@@namelesslad5803 yeah the style of both the book and the movie (houses, furniture and clothes) is more europeanish style so makes better sense to me to watch it in dub

Dayanara Jasmine LOL oh I know! The first time I watched this my little nephew (who's a huge Pixar fan) he heard Billy Crystal speak as Calcifer and shouted, "Mike Wazouski!"
Agreed. He nailed that role in this American English dubbing of the film. The way he portrayed Calcifer reminds me of how Phil Hartman portrayed Jiji in the American English dub of "Kiki's Delivery Service." I wouldn't be surprised if Hayao Miyazaki based Calcifer off of Jiji a little bit, LOL!
Emily Mortimer's natural British accent and soft speaking style embody Sophie Hatter's kind and caring personality, making her relatable to the audience.
Emily Mortimer perfectly captures the youthful innocence, vulnerability and gradual growth of Sophie Hatter throughout the film, delivering a nuanced performance with a delicate and charming British accent that aligns well with the gentle nature of Sophie Hatter.
The contrast between the voices of Emily Mortimer and Jean Simmons in Howl's Moving Castle highlights the personal growth of Sophie Hatter as she navigates the challenges of her curse and learns to stand up for herself.
Same, I literally just finished watching hunger games before watching HMC for the first time and saw his name in the credits and was like TF AM I TRIPPING? AM I STILL STUCK IN HUNGER GAMES MODE OR SUMN? TF

Are you kidding me? The voice acting is spot on, and the script is as close to the original as they can get with everything matching the lips. Disney has been in the business of dubbing movies far longer than any anime dubbing company. They know what they're doing since they do it all the time. Disney also has an exclusive contract with Ghibli for all of their dubbing, and Miyozaki isn't the type of person that would do that if he thought someone wasn't capable of doing justice to his film.
The great thing about the Disney dubs is they encourage the actors to find their own takes on the characters they're playing. Compare that to most anime dubs where the actors just read the lines, or they have two people doing all the parts. Say what you will about Disney, at least they believe in going all the way.
I had been a fan of Josh Hutcherson since first seeing him in "Zathura" and "Firehouse Dog," so when I got "Howl's Moving Castle" on DVD and found out he had voiced Markl I was so excited. It's scary how fast he's grown up since then and how much of a versatile and grown-up actor he's become, but luckily his personality today isn't that different from how it was when he was little. That's when you know an actor has thankfully managed to avoid developing a big ego in the movie business.
I really love the English dub over the original! All the English voices are really distinctive, and suit their characters' personalities. Although Howl's voice is a bit deep/low for his flamboyant character - I still find it sexy and mysterious, which makes Howl's character even more alluring and charming. I also prefer Calcifer's voice over the original, the Japanese really like to emphasise small odd cute characters like Calcifer to have annoying robotic/cutesy voices. But yes, I love it!!!
Howl's Moving Castle accurately portrays the aging process of Sophie Hatter due to the curse, with the youthful voice of Emily Mortimer representing the young Sophie Hatter and the mature voice of Jean Simmons representing the older, transformed Sophie Hatter.

The casting was perfect for this and the slight adjustments that were made to some of the dialogue and terminology to make it easier for American audiences to understand while still keeping it accurate to the story is so well done.
